i tried it out, here's my critique.

lots of wierd stuff happening in the interface like the red rectangle used for selecting not being cleared when moved and not being able to drag select up and left and quirks that occur if you try to do so. some wierd flickering occuring on the gray rectangular labels when i move around the drawn level. nitpicking yeah, not particularly pleasant to look at though.

i think the big issue is that you definitely have a problem with leaking GDI resources. i can just drag the mouse around the room and GDI Object count of the editor all the way up until it caps out at 9,999 objects in task manager. this makes everything else on the computer act real strange, ofcourse.

what it looks like when this happens:



dragging the sized up red rectangle around the level view ramps up the object count pretty quick. not releasing the hdc sounds about right for something like this.

Alright, I'm sorry, but I'm far too lazy to read through 28 pages of this to find out if the following is possible: Would it be possible to create a Zero Suit hack of this? As in, from beginning to end, Zero Suit mode? With the ability to shoot missiles/anything else required? And I don't mean just swapping sprites around, I mean giving Zero Suit those abilities, and allow her to pick up upgrades without reseting or anything.

If that was possible, it'd be pretty awesome to go through a Pistol/Missile run, not to mention just being awesome to begin with.

i think you can do it with just cheat codes on an emulater.

You can switch to Zero Suit Samus, yes, but there's no way to actually progress through the game like that, due to no bombs in Morph Ball and no ability to destroy things requiring Missiles. And a whole bunch of other things.

Of course, now I'm looking into another idea that won't work, and that's an extension of the Menu Hack (That allowed turning upgrades on/off) to stick Zero Suit Samus in there, but of course that's not going to get anywhere. XD

Nope it's till alive, honestly I was hoping for a release this weekend, but that probably won't happen so a release next week looks great, i'm almost done with the map tweaks. So I have one new utility to put it then debugging and the next release will be ready.

Aw man yes

I started to go deeper into DH lately and for some reason the Back Layer of room 3 in Brinstar messed up for me (of course after editing it)...
Also when I started a new hack and tested it after opening and saving it with DH, the Level Data of the first room was completely gone.
In overall this version is still quite buggy so I'd love to see the next version

(also the stuff with switching rooms without saving)

For the next public release... You'll notice humongous speed increases, EP can testify to that. The BG editor will be gone and you'll be represented with a image importer for the background and import tilesets from Bitmaps. I don't mean individual tiles, I mean blocks Cuz i'm awesome, GUI changes and lots of others so keep waiting.

Or some item that allows you to speed jump... (you know, crouch while having speed, then pressing jump)

Excuse me interdpth, but

Saving hangs up the program. I have no idea why. (Maybe it's too weak or something.)

When I save, the CPU Usage meter of DH goes to maximum (mostly 99) and it stays like that until I end the process. I once left it 'save' for 15 minutes or so and it still wasn't done... I don't know what's the problem...
