Look what I found: http://web.archive.org/web/20011224040833/smb3c.darkmazda.com/dragoneye/mmven.html

I can't believe that some of the original Mega Man Vengeance screenshots (MM2 Hack) are still on the web. The graphics are horrible, mostly it being palette changes, but back then, this was acceptable. I love this Way Back Machine. And I'm so thankful I was able to be a part of the ROM hacking community when it really kicked off back in 2000. Good old days, that will never come again. I miss TEK Hacks also.

I'd say the green brick background actually looks kind of cool.

This hack was before my time, though... I only entered the ROM hacking boat around 2003. Not that palette/graphics hacks were entirely extinct back then.

The last thing I remember about this hack is that it was being redone as a homebrew game or something. It's a pity it was never finished.

You should look at this?

Bass 3 is an unused project by Sivak Drac. I heard that he's active but around somewhere else.

I meant to ask him that if he still has an unused copy unless it's deleted. My brother want to do Bass III.

Sivak is on #rom-hacking somewhat frequently. He does homebrew mostly from what I can tell.

That Bass sprite is from that Neo Geo Pocket game, Rockman Battle & Fighters (J). I'd love to see a complete hack using that sprite...

My guess the sprites will fit, with some AsM magic...

Yeah, first it started as a hack of MM2. Then, Sephiroth3 joined DES, and they decided to do it with MM3 instead. They added ASM hacks to Mega Man, which allowed him to act like Bass. He could double jump, and rapid fire in all directions. They even added bullet clipping, and a whole new introduction sequence, as the original game had no intro sequence. Then, a couple years later, they decided to scrap all of that, and make the game a homebrew. I'll never forget how many people kept saying it was a hack, and Vagla had to keep ensuring them it was a homebrew.

I had no idea that was a sprite from an actual Mega Man game. Thanks for sharing that Googie.

Wow... Just looking at the URL with "darkmazda" in it brings back memories...
May this site rest in peace...

I wish I knew about rom hacking back then. So hard for me to learn alot due to personal time constraints. I'm also saddend about Vengence not being complete.

Way to take us back to the past(to play the shitty games that suck ass?)

I actually can't believe I've been in(and somewhat out) of the community for at least 8 years. It's feels so long ago that I was downloading AIM for the first time to talk to Zeldafreak about Link Studios, and then whoosh, I got picked up by DES. I still have my DES avatar somewhere.

I'm still hacking. Right now I am trying to make more headway in an Equinox hack. I still have Legacy of the Wizard to finish, and Megaman 4 as well. I also started to hack Zelda 1 and add lock blocks to it. For the most part it was a success, and I may actually(redo) the code and release it as an improvement hack.

I don't know what you mean by that. Not all of the games were shitty. Remember Zelda Challenge? GameMakr24 is the reason I decided to get into ROM hacking. I was inspired by his work, and I wanted to be a part of the community. And back then, the community was booming, not like today. Every day Acmlm's Board must have had at least 30 members on at any time.

You're not familiar with the Angry Video Game Nerd?

"He's gonna take you back to the past... to play the shitty games that suck ass, he'd rather have... a buffalo, take a diarrhea dump in his ear... he'd rather eat, the rotten asshole of a road kill skunk and down it with beer..." Just look him up on youtube, he's awesome.

1999-2001 for me. I have a feeling it's earlier than later even... I was mostly playing around with the SMB3 editor that Lincolnsoft made in my really early days.

...I also remember that I accidentally found the unused bonus game in SMB3... and I didn't recognize it until years later when some other hacker found it again and made it less glitchy.

I wasn't around at these days because I'm still a High School Student. Watching anime, playing Yu-Gi-Oh, hang out with my friends. The only thing I did is to play an illegial ROM with my friend back at these days until 2004.

My most memory is when I started hacking SMB1 after my neighbor drag his old computer to my apartment and my brother download all NES emu's and ROMs. I don't get to release them until after I made my own site which makes all SMB1 Hacks still unused today. Then I started SMB3 for SMAS about april 2005 trying to make all the levels and including the "lost levels" and host it on another site around July 2005. The SMB3SMAS released hack is deleted a LONG time ago from my hacks section in my current homepage so I'm planning to do a new one from scratch about 2010 or 2009.

After Hana Yori Dango English translation from Japanese of course.

I was inspired by to do a full fledged rom hack after I played "Rockman Exile" I said that I wanted to create a game that was either just as good, or better than "Rockman Exile" Thank You B Hornet for making that hack!

Here is the page and the screenshots from the MM3 version of Mega Man Vengeance. Once again, I can't believe it still exists on the web.
