Hello, I am B. Dicke. Novice ROM hacker.

This is my debut hack. Please enjoy, and share amongst your friends.

http://hostfile.org/DickTales.zip (This is a patch. Apply it to the DuckTales NES hack.)

... Are we supposed to find this sort of thing appealing?
Besides, you've been incredibly abstract and have not provided any screenshots. You could at least provide us with a better idea of what it is first.

My bad. There is a readme that contains the plot with the game, and here are links to the screenshots (just copypasta to the address bar. Same goes with the hack's file address).

I'll say it again, how is this supposed to be appealing?
The era of OMGPENISLOL ended a while back.
To be honest man, things like this require little effort and have no more replay value than the original game would.

I like to keep the era of olde alive, back when ROM hacking wasn't full of elitist snobs.

Some people may still like the penis and toilet jokes in their games. Howard Stern is still popular with some, amirite?

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

By that line of reasoning, no one should hack any game which has been hacked before, and no show should go past episode 1, because its all been done before.

Understandable logic, but still, why does anyone want to see a minor graphical change that defaces a game from one's childhood?

Actually, if you play it, all of the text is changed, and a number of sprites were redone. And I respect your opinion. Plus, believe or not, DuckTales was a game that I loved back in my youth, and I always loved ROM hacking culture, so the hack is basically a byproduct of the best of both worlds.

And yes Jomb, shock value and satire have a hand in this hack. It's a comedy...a subsophmoric one at that. But the point of this hack is to play and have fun, and maybe laugh a little.

My first thought when seeing the thread title was "Jomb". Then I saw who did post it.

My next thought was "oh my god, another one?"

Now, on to the screenshots.

1) That's one bad edit. Seriously, it's less than a Gameboy's screen tall and has just as many bits per pixel. Show some backbone on editing the name.
Also, though I never quite understood the "blue eyes" thing Disney had going for Ducktales, having one eye white, one eye blue and both eyes mangled also fails.
The only relatively good thing I see is the font and... oh my god, "assist by Jomb"? That explains a lot.

2) Of all the edits I could see here, the "kick me" sign and "lets invade" prompt were the only things that made me smile. The rest was just too crappy. Not saying anything about the cloned duckling, that was always there. You could've been nice and fixed it though... oh wait, that's right.

3) ...bouncing on his dick? At least the stoned look came out better than on the title screen.

4) The only way that line was funny was when I quoted it in a duckling voice. Your hack has just physically hurt me! Not even Jomb's stinkers could do that.

You fail sir. Good night.

Replace "elitist snobs" with "people with talent and skill" and you've nailed it on the head.

By the way, your hack is shit. I guess it may be good for a 3 paragraph i-mockery page about how much it sucks, though.

If I wanted to change a shitload of more things in the game, I'd rather MAKE a brand new game altogether instead of a hack. A hack is a hack, after all.

Plus, the point of the game was to entertain folks with a sense of humor, and annoy the piss out of the folks that don't care for the subsophmoric hack. So basically, all of the hate posts here are considered badges of honor to me.

No accounting for taste, some people get it some dont.
When was the last time you got a love letter based on your work? Or a marraige proposal? Made money? I've gotten these things on mine. I've been a success, whether you get it or not.

This is a moot point, because you don't have nearly enough talent to even hack a fucking title screen properly, let alone code a game from scratch. Please try to come up with your own excuses too instead of paraphrasing Jomb.

When was the last time you got a love letter based on your work? Or a marraige proposal?

Oh, I'd love to see the man and/or hambeast responsible for that, assuming you're not just lying.

Made money?

I've turned down offers for money involving my ROM hacks: I didn't take it because I'm not a slimy piece of shit.

But hey, keep deluding yourself into thinking what you do is good in any shape or form. I could bang my cock against a guitar and make better "music" than what you do.

Oh, and before you say "Duurrr, but haf you make moneys off yur music, grph horkle", yes, I have, and I do make money performing live. Music I write myself. So suck it.

It's a misconception to think that this hack would receive fundamentally better reviews if the graphics or text were replaced in a way so as to actually be better; it still remains a few-minutes-of-work graphics hack.

The fact that the graphics edits aren't particularly appealing from a quality point of view and at the heart of it is a joke that lost its shock value around 1918 and its originality long before that doesn't exactly help.

1) ironic considering whats in the works
2) I'm not posting my personal emails here just to make a point, but for example: http://www.youtube.com/user/Jomb69
read the comments, and i dont even use that account
3) Money isn't everything, but most people in the straight world view it as such, thus my example. There is no shame in getting paid for your work, if you did'nt compromise for the sake of money. The least we can probably agree on, is that I've never compromised.

It basically boils down to art. What is art? Good art raises passions in people. So thank you Silver X, for validating me as an artist!

There is when the resulting product is basically totally illegal.

Good art raises passions in people.

No, if this were the case then my hatred for N'Sync, Nickelback and Brittany Spears means they're good artists. Nice logical fallacy bub.

So thank you Silver X, for validating me as an artist!

Ooooh, I get it now. You're like one of the "performance artists" that think they're cutting edge when most people just find them fucking annoying.

"I really want attention, but since I have no talent and couldn't do something good to save my life, I think I'll just try to do something else, like a funny/shocking/extreme game or whatever"

Reading this thread was bothersome, much like previous threads by Jomb (not that I remembered his name). Seriously, I hope you guys are still prepubescent.
