Fixes all known bugs that have been discovered by myself and those that have been reported to me. Also touches up some small things that annoyed me, and also is more balanced than even Easy Type was.

Based off the Easy Type version, and replaces both it and v1.26.

I also figured out a way to get Disch's animated OW water hack to work without fatally crashing the game.

Patch

This is a very nice hack; the graphics in particular are impressive. One thing that annoys me a bit, though, is the brightness difference between the ground tiles and the darker/more saturated green surrounding hills/mountains; while I understand that you probably would have run out of graphics memory if you made proper border tiles to avoid the square borders between the ground and tiles that have cliffs on them, it might have been the overall better decision to leave the walkable floor in the same shade of green as the surrounding hills to begin with.

Also, I got killed in the third floor of the mud temple after my PSI ran out.

Thanks for the comments.

About the ground VS mountains: I tried implementing a tile setup to remove the blockiness, but Thaddeus wanted to use that space for the dried grass areas near the Great Divide. It was his say: We basically left each other to our separate duties, giving opinions on some things as the project when on.

The Marsh Temple can be beaten very easily at level 2 or 3, but you need to take about 5 Herbs with you. Save your PSI charges so you can cast Bolt against Tyris, as it usually only takes three hits to take him down (I made the PSIs fairly powerful due to the limited charge system of FF1. Bolt is also extremely effective against cybernetic enemies due to the electrical nature of the attack).

I highly suggest that you play the game. I had a lot of fun doing so, a few areas were really challenging.

I suggest that you pay close attention while playing, or you will end up getting your ass kicked fast.

Yes, DXOII is excellent.

But I didn't come to the board to say that, esp. when it seems praise for the hack is almost universal. See, the thing is...

I'm stuck. Leveled up extremely high; beat Pyro and SheBitch (with a little help from savestates to last the final few rounds with Pyro); have Spline Helm, Gamma Armor, Medula Accessory, Omega Rifle.

But once I needed the power source for the teleporter, I haven't progressed further (except another levelup). How in the hell does a person get Sargon into the Deadpool?

I've searched high and low for clues, inside and outside the game. I did notice "fixed Deadpool OW tile" in the 1.30 readme; also (paraphrasing this time) "fixed Lv1 magic to 9 charges instead of A". I'm getting A charges right now... if that might have something to do with the problem, which I actually doubt.

I'm assuming the Deadpool is at the furthest east point that the Railjet will travel. I can't seem to get across the water there... Thanks to anyone who may offer a clue.

Looking forward to the conclusion,

anguna

How in the hell does a person get Sargon into the Deadpool?

In the tunnel to the Deadpool, it branches into two paths, the left a dead end. There's a switch on the wall there you have to pull to activate the bridge.

I'm getting A charges right now...

Man, I couldn't reproduce that on my own after artificially levelling numerous times. Please tell me at least the levels 5-8 are granting more than 4 charges.

Thanks for playing.

It's not soul crushingly hard like v1.26 was, but it's still fairly challenging in places. The gameplay balance is one of the things I worked on the most, and I think it finally clicked around the optimal level in this (hopefully) final release.

You post here, too?

This was fun to play. You could've done with a few more screenshots, I didn't really want to download it at first, but I'm glad I did.

I've been a user of every Acmlmboard incarnation since it first started like 7 or 8 years ago. There was a time when it/they was/were one of the biggest hubs of ROM hacking.

You could've done with a few more screenshots

Done.

I didn't really want to download it at first, but I'm glad I did.

Thanks.

I put about 6 friends on to NES emulation because of this hack, and they all love it! One of them said that this hack is proof that the NES isn't dead.

Sliv: How are Thaddeus & Gavin are doing, I hope they're okay.

Ah! Can't believe I missed it.
I swear, I checked all the walls in the tunnel EXCEPT that one.

BTW, thanks for the quick reply -- have to be away for a week or 2 beginning tomorrow; now I got to finish DXOII before leaving.

Yes, it seems that there's a problem with magic charges. At endgame, I had:
L1: A/A
L2: 8/8
L3: 8/8
L4: 8/9
L5: 4/4
L6: 4/4
L7: 4/4
L8: 4/4

S'pose this means 1.30 isn't final?

Anyway: Thanks very much for creating this!

Thaddeus was fine as of a month and a half ago, and Gavin is doing great he says.

I discovered it's a bug with the Nanite "Class Change". Despite being set up to give charges like normal Sargon, it effectively freezes any charges being gained if > 4, and caps anything 4 or less at 4 charges. Oh, it also will keep giving charges to L1. I need to do a trace and see what's going on.

I'm hoping it's not some kind of side effect of an ancient, forgotten assembly hack I did. I did use some of the areas where unused item routines were located as free JSR space (And the Nanite wasn't used until post v1.0).

Yeah, I traced a bunch of routines and found what was causing it: Apparently there's a byte that CMPd to determine magic charges, and it was capping the "Knight" at 4 charges per.

I'll release the absolutely final revision to the game in a few days (Going to take the chance to comb through everything and make sure I don't miss something again).

Already beaten the game once, but where does one find Level 8 magic?

Tried looking everywhere but no luck yet...

Near the beginning of the Uris Desert there is a grove of trees against one of the mountainsides: Search the cliff face.

You'll need the Nanite upgrade to even learn levels 7 and 8, though the Nanite is buggy in v1.30 (Fixed, now).

Also, since I can't post again...

Version "Final" has been released: The original post's link has been updated.

Changes from v1.30:

Level 5 - 8 PSIs Now Exceed 4 Charges Per After Nanite Upgrade.
Level 1 PSI now capped at 9 charges with Nanite.
Cancelling an Anti will no longer attempt to apply it anyway.

Removed "Sargon" and "Items" from displaying above the Item/PSI/Arms/Armor screens.
While an NTSC TV would normally not display this, it's been removed for the sake of
HDTVs and people who don't cut the top 8 scanlines off in their emulators.

Missing tile on the foreground tree in Intro placed.
Handful of typos fixed.
Better Animated Water Graphic
Neverborn's DEF lowered.
Enemy PSI "Dogma" now works properly.
Enemy PSIs more descriptive in battle.
Minor adjustment to Sargon's normal mapman sprite.
Shadow PSI is now twice as potent.

WHERE DO I GET THE FREAKING NANITE?!?!
seriously, I've been around the world a million times on my railjet. I've been trying not to cheat with save states, but this game is ridiculously hard, Like the valley where you run into ferras when you're ridiculously under-level (I'm level 29 now and still run from them) Where the hell is the nanite? I want my level 7 psis!
