Most Super Mario 1 hacks i download all start on 0-1 and keep repeating.Anyone else have this problem?Rom or patches do the same thing.I use FCEU and Nestopia emulators.I tried it with Nesticle and it works fine. But Nesticle is bit unstable on my xp.The sound is choppy and it crashes every now and then and locks the computer up.Is there some kind of graphic support missing for fceu and nestopia?

Why would you think it's the hacks themselves if it happens for several of them? I'm no SMB expert but from what I've seen on these forums the problem you have is that your ROM is not a very good dump. Try finding a better one.

Actually, I seen this happen myself on some hacks... mainly older hacks you find in ROM collections. I figure patches from back then were based on bad ROM's as well, which leads to the same problem when you patch too.

It's probably possible to get around that by hacking the hacks to start from 1-1. xD But most hacks that glitches out tend to be the crappy ones as well so... really want to bother?

I found the problem. It was in mapper support.Apparently i downloaded an older version of nestopia.I just found that newest release supports newer mappers. Now most smb hacks play on it.

Nope, not a mapper issue.

Back in THE OLD DAYS (Mid 90s) the most widespread dump of SMB1 on the internet was in fact from a pirate cart.

Notice how all those hacks that fuck up have no title screen? That's a sure indicator that it's based on that old dump, as I guess the people who made the cart thought that removing the game's title would somehow make what they were doing less illegal or something.

Anyway, pirate SMB1 doesn't initialize the NES's RAM properly on boot, which cause the 0-1 issue. Older emulators don't care because they're usually very inaccurate in many ways, but newer ones puke because they behave as they should.

Which is strange that NEStopia can run them now, considering it's the most accurate NES emu there is. I'll have to check this out myself sometime today.

I have this problem too. You need original title screen. Use SMB-Fix

i think it had more to do with the fact the rom had a "trainer" which moved the location of the titlescreen data. never really messed with the trainer roms so i'm not sure. Disch or somebody would know probably

Using a utility to fix your own mistake (in this case, downloading a broken SMB1 rom) is pointless. :V
