I was playing through Bucky o' hare earlier and noticed the Blue Planet I think it was Act 5, but on the real hardware it has the barrels that move up and down, and in FCEUltra it glitches up and Bucky or whoever you're playing as falls through the floor. And then you come out at the top and it's impossible to continue.
I was wondering what is the most accurate NES emulator, I have Jnes I think it was, but it's colors are borked. If this should be in rom hacking, please move it, there used to be a general emulation forum but it doesn't exist now. ____________________ Why are you reading this? My post is up there^ |

NESTopia is the most accurate, yet usable NES emulator I used. It have accuracy as a main goal, but isn't as awkward to play in as some other "accurate" emulators. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Ok, thanks, I guess I'll check it out, I think I downloaded that one before and it ran oddly... I'll just try again then I suppose.
Are the colors supposed to be so dark/washed out? ____________________ Why are you reading this? My post is up there^ |

*shrug*
Palettes varies a bit between Emulators (and you can load custom palettes in most too). It's also possible you are using some video configuration in the emulator that makes it a bit darker. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Use Nestopia's NTSC emulation and there's no reason to use palettes.
Palettes were made for when NES emulators used an RGB hack for rendering (which was considered "good enough"); when Nestopia emulates an NTSC screen, colors are rendered exactly how they appear on a TV. |

Problem being that TVs have differences. But then, there's enough sliders to try and approximate what your TV would show
That's why the original Amiga Workbench GUI had such god-awful colors by default - to make sure it was legible on the worst screens they could find. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

And some games uses effects that abuses some weaknesses of the NTSC. Such as the seas in first Zelda that looks more like waves than dots on a real TV... and with the NTSC filter. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Oddly, NESticle actually seems to have a pretty accurate palette. It's very similar to NEStopia and RockNES's. ____________________ Arc-Nova.org: More Chiptunes Than Your Mother Can Handle |

Heh, I swear some colors in NESticle was little on the bright side. Then, I wonder if the palette change much between revisions of it... heh. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

I guess it's all to preference, I have NEStopia to use color settings which make it look like it does on my TV, so I'm happy enough. ____________________ Why are you reading this? My post is up there^ |

NESTopia's NTSC filter is similar to PAL too, as long you don't make it color bleed or anything too much. Seems like the guy who made it looked at the output of the PPU of the NES, which isn't pixel-perfect. This have the fun side-effect that NES games run on more modern consoles throu Virtual Console on Wii or the NES games on Animal crossing actually looks sharper than from a real NES... ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org

Ok, so I know that all emulators display colors differently, but what about screenshots? Like with all the images I've posted about my hack, does everyone see those the same? :/ |

Of course they do. Well in theory at least, since people have different brightness settings and such... but color variation between computer monitors is usually less than color variation on various TV screens. ____________________ AIM: gamefreak1337, MSN: Emil_sim@spray.se, XMPP: ailure@xmpp.kafuka.org
