First out, I managed to burn out my first moniter with this computer.. to the point where 100 contrast looked like only 2 contrast. Now.. I've destroyed the second, which caused it to go a nice shade of blueish gray. Shame, it had a microphone built in.

Now I'm on number three. Widescreen, flat and fits on my desk. 1024x768 sure looks odd on widescreen.

Anyone else had such a run?

You've got to use a a wide screen resolution on a wide screen monitor.

I used to have a grip of old CRTs that I would switch through because they all sucked. Some wouldn't stretch to the screen properly, some would shake, etc. -- monitors suck.

We still have our monitor from our 486, so nope.

Infact I used my old monitor as a second monitor on my newest computer. xD (my dad refused to take it back home anyway, as it's so heavy)

We still have old 17"'s here (from 1997 and 2000), perfectly working, although the older one isn't used anymore ...

The old 12" on my old Macintosh still works, too, except it doesn't have much use without a working computer (or hard disk)

you don't have magnets on it or anything do you? I've never had a monitor go bad on me.

but yeah. I'd rather my monitor go bad than my motherboard =\

Our oldest monitor is dead, I think. When it started to get old, the screen could suddenly turn purple. I usually hit it on the side quite hard to make it go back to normal. Worked for quite a while.

Then it started to turn yellow and green too when I hit it. But it was old. We had it for our first computer. A 166Mhz one.

I've never had any monitor go bad on me at all, but then again, I try to keep magnets away from my monitors

My old monitor isn't dead, but I bought a new LCD because the old one was a CRT and I had planned to use it for a new computer.

A nearly 21-year-old ZEOS monitor of mine works perfectly... as does my nearly 10-year old MAG Innovision 19-inch CRT. In fact it is great for displaying large resolution stuff.

Only monitor I had explode on me was a piece of junk, and not technically mine either. :p

I've had this monitor for.. Gosh, quite awhile now.
Don't think I've ever had any go out on me either, though I really should consider getting a new one anyway.. preferably something with a larger screen and one which can support higher resolution than this one.

My first monitor was fine until one night it randomly started crackling and then the back of it basically exploded. Not a good thing at 2 AM.

Every computer I've owned was bought with a new monitor, so can't say I've broken any. I have one upstairs that's probably 5 years old or so; piece of shit, but still works and does the job well enough (considering it's merely a Win98SE machine anyhow.)

I've never had a monitor die on me, but I'm terrified that the LCD of my laptop will die. That could be really expensive to replace/fix.

I had a monitor show only red after the green and blue wires broke in the cord. Another one died after I hooked it to the VGA out of an old VGA to Composite converter. And I had a laptop lcd break after someone stepped on it.

My previous monitor kinda was dying, but it didn't actually die... I replaced it before it had a chance to. It was 5 years old by the time I replaced it. One day, it was in power save mode, and when I woke my computer back up, the screen never came back on. It just stayed off. The light turned on, but the screen itself didn't work. It made the hum noise when it turned on, but it didn't make the static clingy noise. After an hour, it started working again. After that, random bars of garbage would flicker on the screen occasionally. Not very frequently though, it'd do it in short bursts. A few months later, it did the thing where it stopped working again, and then I said "ok, that's it, I really need a new screen now." An hour later, it started working again, but the next day, I still got a new screen, the LCD screen I use now. It's great.

Back when I had a laptop, I guess I used it too much and the screen just sorta died. It still displayed stuff, but it looked like it had a bad connection with the video card... like, I had to kinda twist the screen a little bit to get it to display something, and then whatever was displayed just kinda froze and faded out.

There's no magnets near it. That's the thing about it.

Some old monitors simply lost brightness over time. It sucks, but that's how it was.

Yes, unfortunately, phosphors don't last forever.

We have two monitors in the back room at work that are on 24/7. One of them has burn-in from the desktop icons, and the other is just REALLY dark, since it sits on a mostly white screen all the time.

I'm actually surprised the monitors haven't exploded yet, since they've been on for ~5 1/2 years, minus the occasional power outage.

The week that the original board went down, my compy was acting up. This week, I accidentally spill sprite onto the back of the monitor and the desk and the keyboard. The new keyboard that we just bought.....so much water...errr soda poured out of the screen, I was sure it would never work again. But we plugged it in a few hours later and it still works!! There's now a small, I guess spot, in the right hand corner, but that's about it. I just need to clean up the keyboard (or get a new one) because it is very hard to type right now (reason why I haven't been around much).
