This is a hack which aims to make the Batman for NES game much easier and beatable then it originally was. I found the original to be very fun, yet difficult to beat. With this hack it's much more possible to beat the game in one set of lives.

I edited most of the levels (including boss levels) to make them easier and have some alternate shortcuts to them rather than having to always progress through the levels on a set path. I also removed several traps and added platforms to help avoid them. Enemy health has also been adjusted to make them easier to defeat. Some bosses it is more noticable, especially the final 2 bosses where I felt the battles were too difficult. Joker takes only a few hits to defeat, as he does in the movie. I also increased the amount of weapon ammo you get from powerups and also the health given by health powerups.

Batmans in-game pallette was changed to grey to more closely mirror his outfit in the movie. I also opened up a few walls which lead to unused rooms. This don't really make the game easier, but I did it to satsify my own curious interests.

I made this hack with that new batdance utility.

Sunsoft has a reputation for annoyingly hard platformers (*eyes Atlantis no Nazo*), so I can imagine what kind of problems there were... this looks fairly nice anyway (the level graphics appear to be very good for NES standards), so I'll give it a shot after getting some sleep.

I like the idea you implemented with this hack. I never really got into the NES Batman games, but I'm sure they were hard considering the few minutes I played of them. Have you tried making Batman all black, but using a gray outline so that he stands out in the black background? I'm wondering how that would look.

If I were to hack this game, I'd prolly change the Batman palette from Batman: Return of The Joker. I'll give this a shot in the morning, looks smooth though.

I think it's a great idea. I'm definitely going to back and play it in this form.

As far as the palette used for Bats, I think it's too gray compared to the movie version. With a little darkening of the cape, cowl, boots, and gloves he'd look very much like the awesome Frank Miller version. Also, there's an old hack called "MCB Batman" that uses a very nice palette that is almost all black. You should check it out for the sake of comparison at least.

From what I remember I used the same pallette as MCB's hack. Oya, and can someone move this thread to Rom hackng related release forum? I was also informed that the grey batman pallette wasn't incorperated into the hack so that will be on another revision which will be in a day or two.

Just played through it, I noticed the parts you changed right away. It took about an hour to finish it since I'm rusty. I might have to make a hack outta this someday, nice job with the hack...

Nice hack so far, sometimes an easier version of a game can be a good thing.

Now, I was trying to tinker with this editor & I noticed that when I change a ledge, it looks like the enemies float lol! I hope the editor will have sprite support soon...
