Chrono Trigger: Prophet's Guile is a new story following Magus's turbulent experience in Zeal as he dons the guise of the Prophet, curries favor with the Queen, and prepares for his second attempt at exacting revenge on Lavos. It's full of graphical, level, sound, and design polishes and surprises, reflecting the cutting edge in Trigger hacking. About two or three regular Trigger chapters long, it's the first Chrono Trigger hack with a new story.

I've played through all of it, and I must say I'm impressed!
I love the music ports and "Corridors of Time" with the different instruments.
A must-play, IMO.

The game seems to freeze on me with a black screen after the contemporarity cutscene showing Chrono's party defeat the 65M BC dinosaur thing... (using headered version)

I'd take tracelogs of what exactly happened, but no debugging tools at hand right now.

Either way, for what I've seen up to this point, it seems like a considerably quality hack. Won't write up extensive judgements before having played all the way through it though...

Were you using SNES9x? It freezes in SNES9x for some reason...
You gotta use ZSNES.

Ah, yes, the sign of quality hacking. Despite all of the reasons to not like SNES9x, accuracy isn't one of them. It far surpasses ZSNES in most aspects.

Somebody with a stout system should run it on BSNES and see how badly it would choke on real hardware. I would, but I'm not interested in this turkey.

I'm enjoying it so far. the only thing I would do to it is add a proper title screen; even if it's only a modified version of the original one.

The SNES9x issue is probably the result of the expanded ROM, and removal of pre-existing data in Chrono Trigger to allow a short hack to fit in the 4 MB limit is untested right now.

Snes9x is far more strict about the size of the file after an ips patch is applied. (And of the size of a rom in general). If a file is not a round multiple of 2 megabits, anything past the lowest round multiple is truncated in memory, and thus inacessible.

Hack authors need to be very careful when they create an ips patch to make sure this doesn't happen. I don't know if Temporal Flux is writing files that have bad sizes (Hyrule Magic certainly does).

I'd be careful about bumping threads that are nearly two years old, Brad.

To answer your question, though: there was some drama a few months ago about the Chrono Compendium getting a C&D letter concerning their pet hack project, and part of the terms of that letter included getting rid of all Chrono Trigger-related piracy crap on their site. Sucks, I know. (someone correct me if I missed any details; I didn't follow all that stuff too closely)

I'm sure you can Google it and find it eventually.
