Here's an example of a mod so extensive it's not worth hacking Pokémon for that we discussed over lunch a few days ago:

You are an aspiring Gym Leader. You must find and earn a gym, decorate it and all that... Trainers come to challenge you and if you beat them in "impressive" ways, they may come to respect you and stay around.

But you can't stay in your gym all the time -- that'd be boring. You must keep up your earned respect by fighting other gyms and such.

The game could be made closed-ended by earning a spot among the Elite.
