Maybe the floors could contain some forks, dividing the directions of the levels, leading to multiple rooms?
I think that some enemy rooms would be nice, where Mario has to defeat all the enemies on the screen to pass.

When I think of the tower, I think of the final level from Kirby's Dreamland 3(?) where there are some boss rooms. I remember that was a long and somewhat frusterating level.

Just throwing that idea out there.

I'll make some levels.

I would do GFX, but I'm not too good at drawing yet.

How about instead of those stages in the original picture being just a stage, they are about three or four stages?

Well, the number of stages aren't set in stone. Those were just a suggestion. We probably could wind up with like 30 stages outside the tower, and it's fine for me.

But yeah, there's really no reason to preassign a small subset of the levels that are going to be made like this. We'll probably wind up with at least ~40 distinct ones.

Another thing we need to think about is whether or not we want to include SMB3 pipes. If we want to use them, we should do that towards the beginning of the hack's creation.

I could probably do one of the dungeon levels. I might even be able to create my own dungeon graphics for the level.

Small poll: Blood or no blood in the graphics? And sorry, there won't be squirming Toads or anything; I can't ExAnimation to save my life.

I don't see why blood shood be a problem as long as it doesn't look cheesy (which it, granted, does in most, if not all, hacks with the intention of being "gory" I've seen so far)

That's because they don't realize that blood is transparent. Whatever surface the blood goes over, you can still see the different tones in the surface. I'll work on making it so that the blood looks like it actually covers the surface.

EDIT:

Sample shot of the graphics. I'm think the blood is too cheesy right now but I'm not really sure how to do it and make it look good. Streaks or splashes on the wall? I'm not sure. The chains I like a lot, but I could probably find a better way to do the junction. The actual dungeon tiles aren't too bad either.

What do you guys think? (I think this is the first public sign of progress on a level so far.)

I'm not too much fan of blood in SMW hacks, but mostly becuse it's so... out of place in the SMW kind of world.

Those graphics looks nice, though the blood does look a bit cheesy. It reminds me about the SMB3 fortress style...

I think I'm going to skip the blood idea because I can't really think of a good way to draw it and make it look good. Instead, I'm going to use the space to add more detail to the tileset. I'll work on it some more later tonight.

The tileset looks way too bright for a castle tileset in my eyes anyway.

I put forth some tilesets for consideration on the Wiki as well, by the way.

The wiki is editable by everyone, it's why we used a wiki. Just register as Delmaru, then edit yourself into wherever you're participating.
