Well I found out where the overworld is.

It starts directly after the header at 10 and then ends at 3780

Game Maker is capable of reading hex of a file. I'm gonna try to work it to be able to layout the tiles and crap.

I love Fester's Quest, my uncle has the cart with a working NES. I'd love to hack this game. I hope you can find other data down the line.

OMFG!!

I love this game!! MY grandmother bought it for me when i was a little kid. None of my friends knew of this game. This game is so cool. Upgrading the gun, and Whip weapon! It took me 15 years to figure out how to get into the house surrounded with bushes, and to find that's where the health upgrade was.

Sorry for the nostalgic trip, but this is a very close dear title to me, along with all megamans for the nes.

I'll be checking back here more often now!!

Ok I'll post what I got so far. Right now it reads tiles from addresses and displays them.

Hex format of tiles not fully done yet but it displays in decimal format.

2826 is where the brick wall starts in case you want to check out areas since the wall is where you start.

left-right seeks held down
up-down seeks once per press
+ and - on numberpad adjusts seekspeed

F2 opens up a file

I'm with you there infidelity, I'll drink to that! I love Fester's Quest, it's one of my favorite Sunsoft games next to Blaster Master.

CKY-2K: I can't wait to see what other magic tracks you have up your sleeves. It's always good to see more NES editors being made for other games for the NES.

Keep doing your thing man.

Very awesome, I look forward to seeing some developments in this.

Fester's Quest is always getting listed as a "terrible game" and this and that, but I think people just got frustrated because it was so difficult. Maybe it's just because I played it a lot as a kid, but I think it's a very solid, well-made, fun game.

I got it to display the entire map but the problem is that it runs really slow, because right now I only have it display by actually reading the map every step of the game which takes up a lot of memory. I'll fix that later though.

I'm going to go ahead and say that this game IS terrible, but I'd totally be willing to make a good game out of it. I wouldn't even make it have a new story or anything, just make it better. First thing to go? Confusing 3D mazes.

You guys, you will all this your pants.

I shat my pants.

Your turn to shit your pants.
It works. It's not really good but I'll update it over time.

map is displayed completely, fully editable tiles.

directions:
click on the tile you want to edit
use + and - on numberpad to change the tile value.

Warning: how to save? To be honest it saves each tile change after applying. This is the first release of it actually editting the game so take caution.

okay so I can't open my ROM. I might not have a clean one though, I don't know. I'll have to see if this happens to anyone else. The program says this:
ERROR in
action number 2
of Create Event
for object object0:

Error opening binary file.

Angry video game nerd won't like that game:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25046.html

but I never belive that somebody make level editor whit game maker .

but way I testing this... (/me thows keyboard out of window...)

*downloads it*

*findig rom from over 3539 roms...*

well, it's working pretty good, so, it is pretty good level editor, but somtimes slow....

EDIT: I used Fester's Quest (U).nes version...

edit: bug founted, load rom, push F2 and push peruuta/cansel (oslt*) and you get:

__________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Key Press Event for F2 Key
for object object0:

Error seeking.

and if you push ignore:

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 2
of Key Press Event for F2 Key
for object object0:

Error retrieving file size.

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 2
of Key Press Event for F2 Key

Error seeking.

It's because it's trying to find the info of a file you don't even have loaded.
That's now fixed though for this new release.

same controls except you can bring up a tilebox by pressing space and move the tile box with left & right. Having the tilebox up locks map scrolling.

oh and right click lays the tile

Have fun.

Did I say sewer editting? I meant sewer editting and now spaceship editting!

That's right, the edittor is basically finished now.

So who's up for me to release it?

Anyways, I realized Fester's Quest is a very flexible game with easy to interpret coding. I know how to change tiles, and tile attributes like palette and solicidy.
I might try to do something based on that now.

I was just thinking about pointers where you enter houses, sewers etc. Maybe adding enemy support to change the enemies? That'll totally rock, just throwing that out there.
