Some of you may now it, some don't. It all started today at 3PM. I was cleaning the dust out of my computer because it was getting too loud again. So i took the processor out and everything worked fine so far. I removed the dust put in the processor again and started my computer. It didn't start the hard drive for some reason so I thought I didn't build in the processor right and took it out again to check but then I broke up a pin on it and it was destroyed. Alright, that's not the worst thing. I bought a new processor for 140€ ($190) to hope it would work. I build it in but the hard drive still didn't turn on so I was like . I checked all cables and the processor again but when I took it out I saw all pins bent or broken. But that's not all, the WORST thing is, I lost ALL my important files means music, photos, SMW stuff, ROM stuff, movies, documents and other crap and I can't even restore them, since the hard drive it is on does not work anymore. It says nothing. >__________< So I won't hack SMW anymore but help people with problems. Luckily I get a new PC soon because the PC I use right now is an Intel Celeron with 128MB memory. >.<

1) While that sucks, I'm not sure it belongs in this forum (or maybe it does, dunno really).
2) Were you in the middle of any hacks? What did you lose?

Why did you take the PROCESSOR out?

You could have just as easily blown the dust out without doing that.

backseat modding for the lose

Also, why aren't you keeping backups? By the heavens, you should have at least one backup of your most important stuff outside your local hard drive...

Nightkev...

Also, that sucks. IF you still have the drive, take it to a pro's shop; they might be able to help.

I had a bent pin on an HD once, I know the initial feeling (I was actually able to repair it), and I also know what it's like to lose a lot of stuff like that; it happened once with a corrupted hard drive (COTMK 1 barely survived that incident ).

I feel for you

I usually take backups, but unfortunately I didn't take one this time and then shit happens. Ah well, I might be able to retrive an old copy of my hack somewhere, probably from ghettoyouth. I'm getting an Intel Pentium E6600 Dual Core 2x2,4Ghz now with 2GB RAM and 400GB S-ATA drive.

My backups consist of having my important files (and a bunch of unimportant ones, too) on both the desktop's HD and the laptop's HD.

I really couldn't imagine losing everything like that. That has to stink...

Why were the pins of your new processor "all broken or bent"? Is the slot itself broken or the processor does not fit the slot? And since the older PC is so old that it has only 128MB RAM, why would a new processor cost ~140 Euro?

Anyway, I feel sorry for you. But don't abandon hope, try sending the hard drive repairing.
