So, after much doing of stuff, I finally finished World 1 of my hack, Yoshi's Island Remix. I originally posted this thread on Acmlm's Board version whatever, but now that this one's up I'll redo it.

So, here are the screenshots:
1-1: Sunshine Forest

1-2 Ski Lifts on Fire

1-3: ZOMG!!!

1-4: Cavern Keep

1-5: Maze Land 1

1-6: Thunder Jungle

1-7: Yoshi's Grotto

1-8: Canopy Castle

Well, there's the screenshots, and here's the .ips:

YIR.ips

Enjoy, and thanks a lot!

Here's my comment from the old board:

Wow, another person made it to World 2 in YI hacking. Not many people make it that far sadly.

I'll have to try this sometime. YI hacks are hard to come by these days.

BTW, I think the last demo should be World 2 instead of World 3. Why do you want a demo to be half of the entire game?

I have nothing better to do right so I'll give your hack a try right now.

Hello,
Your screenshots look pretty good. I played it,and your ideas were pretty good.
did you expand the levels or just use the rooms that they gave you? the only thing was that I thought some parts like 1-4 were kind of close to the one in the original game, but your levels were really good like the cave maze. I think you should add a few enemies though,if you know what I mean, just to make it interesting, but the difficulty level was good. It was progessive and not too hard all at once.(The monkeys in 1-8 werent really that bad.) Oh,and there were only a few minor things wrong, but they didnt ruin the gameplay like at the beginning of the welcome level, you can see a space on the bottom, but it fixed itself so maybe try not to the ground so big. I'm not trying to be critical, but just to let you know how you can make it better. I think it will make a really good game b/c the demo was fun to play. Since I tried your game, can I send you a demo of my game to try it? I have to fix a few things first.
Well, like I said,it looks like you have a really good start, and you put a lot of effort into your levels.

lespna - I expanded only two areas, the main area of 1-7 and the second room of 1-8. Other than that, I used the original byte level. Also, don't worry about being critical - that's half of why I put it up here. Tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it Also, I'd love to try your game, is it Yoshi's Island or another one?

The screenshots look nice, but I don't have time to play it. One criticism - the level theme tends to evolve rather rapidly. Forest to icy land to a different kind of forest, etc. It's just a bit... odd, for me.

Also, do try to avoid naming your levels like something like ZOMG.

Oh, I never got back to you when I played this demo. Since I have already played up to 1-6, I played the latest two levels.

I didn't find any glitches in 1-7 - however, at the end of 1-8, during the Salvo fight, if you beat him on the left side of the screen, you uncontrollably run right and fall off below the lava (through that new hole you made in the center.) You still win, but it looks a bit weird.

I liked 1-8 overall too. You used castle walls really well, and it all came together nicely. Great work so far, and I look forward to world 2.

Finished playing the demo last night before I fell asleep shortly after.

I found a few bugs though:

Welcome Level

This is something that I saw in an older demo you posted last year. Part of the ground vanishes as soon as the text box disappears and you are free to move. It looks normal after you leave the screen. To avoid making the ground disappear, use object XFD on the screen above it to fix it.

1-1: Sunshine Forest

You start in midair in the beginning of the level. It can easily be fixed with a hex editor.

You find this section of grass if you go too far left from the fourth flower. Not only that but if you fail to get Yoshi back to the area that you came from, you die. Just remove that section so that the screen doesn't scroll that far left.

1-2: Ski Lifts on Fire

Only one minor bug in this level.

If you look closely, you can see the layer 3 stars overlapping the background. It should be the other way around.

1-4: Cavern Keep

In this room, a bunch of sprites disappear here. The first time I got to this room, the flower, the blocker, and the door all disappeared.

1-6: Thunder Jungle

This level has a minor bug as well. It's even more minor than the one in 1-2.

The tree vines are too close to each other causing one of the leafs to disappear. Just separate the two vines a little farther from each other to fix this.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this hack. I especially liked 1-5. I like maze levels a lot, especially ones that aren't very complicated like this one. I look forward to World 2.

Nice to see multiple YI hack threads on the same screen. If we can keep the YI hack to SMW hack ratio 1 : 1, then there is chance for peace in the middle east.

As for your hack, I must say very good job 13th Prodigy. To tell the truth I was not expecting such good level design. I had a blast playing through your demo. Sure there are a couple rough edges, just like fabio said. And the change of scenery is kinda jarring, but does not take away from the fun.

I love how you used the fire melon to great effect. I had no clue you could shoot up! lol The Chain Chomp guy in ZOMG was good times too. I think the difficulty was spot on. Only occasionally were there some tricky jumps, and some enemy placements were a little unfair, but overall it was Challenging, not frustrating.

Keep it up man.

Well, the whole level, pretty much, you're being chased by a Chomp Shark. That's what my sister yelled when she played the level. Later there's one called "ZOMFG!!!" which is similar but a lot worse ^^

@SNN - Mmkay, I'll try to fix that Salvo thing. Thanks, dude.

@Fabio - thanks for playing, glad you enjoyed it ^^. I'll try to fix what you pointed out. Also, I use Windhex32 - how does one change starting position, exactly?

Thanks to all for playing. Also, I know the change in scenery is abrupt, but I wanted to try a little of everything. No world has one theme, in fact, I think every world has at least 3 but there is a definite noticable change throughout the levels.

Here's how to edit the starting position in YI. Thank S.N.N. for this information.

Posted by S.N.N.
Offset xBF671

That is the main entrance of 1-1. There are 4 bytes. I think they start as 00 07 78 01 or something very close to that. The first byte tells the game which level to load (Level 0 in eggvine = 1-1) The second is the X position. Third is Y position. Fouth is the entrance type, but don't play around with it, as it's a pretty messed up value. All you need is the first 3 of each really.

I played it today and it was pretty good! I'm only missing two Red Coins in Castle Canopy and then I'll have a PERFECT! for World 1. I'm looking forward to the rest of your hack.

Thanks Fabio for that information (I guess thanks SNN for it earlier but y'know, it's all good )

Phoenix - Did you find them? I didn't think I hid the red coins too hard
