This is something I've never quite understood. Why do people make such a big deal about Galaga, and smother it with rave reviews when referring to 80's arcade games?

Timesuck, really.

I'd agree with them, if not to say that it's a game you have to play at least once before you die. Still recall the last time I played it was a good few months ago when I was at a GameXchange in IL with a friend on vacation. Got to level 20 without blinking and died finally at level 23 or so.

Oh and it was with the NES controller, not the arcade. Slight difference in gaming experience.

People who grow up with games before SMB really like repetitive high score games with no end.

I don't play it too often, but it's one of those games which offer the thrill of survival. It forces you to keep on going until you either die completely, get bored or have to do something else. I find the same enjoyment from lots of old arcade games.

Galaga was liked because at the time it was released, it was a fun game to play, and was good. Galaga is liked now, I think mainly for nostalgia reasons. Not that Nostalgia is a bad thing.

Hmm, I should dig up that silly Swedish Atari commercial for space invaders.

I think some of you younger folks don't quite comprehend how big Galaga was at the time. You know how people in Korea die from huge marathons of gaming on games like Starcraft? Galaga is the 80s version of that. Some people were *that* addicted to it.

The only reason I have to not like Galaga is that it takes my money.
