Doesn't the fact that there are thousands of threads like this suggest to anyone that having a "new thread" button immediately next to a "new reply" button is an idiotic idea?

It seems to me if you read something that inspires you in one thread, it's probably going to be related enough to the topic at hand that you can just make it a reply rather than starting a completely new thread.

Is there some other reason for the button that I'm not understanding?

Madman200, look in General. 24 hours ago, this wasn't locked, so it isn't locked now. A rollback rolls back everything.

(Complaints still go to the staff not into the thread.)

PSlugworth: I've yet to see a board system that doesn't have the "New Topic" link still visible in topics. I think it's just a convenience thing typically; the problems here may be helped by simply increasing the distance between the two or rewording things slightly, such as "Add Reply" instead of "New Reply".
