It's the reasoning that you're distributing an illegal file that is why you must send patches instead. You can have people download the ROM instead of a patch, but you would most likely have your hack removed, be banned, and/or be ridiculed. If you want to email someone the ROM then go right on ahead, but within the public internet, most frown upon handing out the game, whether it is modified or not. |

1. It's illegal to redistribute the game, period. In the United States, it's now even illegal to dump them in the first place, but fuck that, no one's going to bust down my house for dumping my own games instead of downloading them.
2. It's more convenient to download a patch. What a concept! I could spend less time downloading a 100K patch than it takes to download a 32MB ROM image. (How the ROM image is obtained in the first place is not in question for this point; it's not up to hack authors to play police and make sure nobody pirates the game to play a hack) 3. It's already been stated several times that IPS is not the only format. Use NINJA, PPF, bsdiff, whatever format that doesn't have ridiculously small limits. |
