Something that's been on the OpenPoké wish list since the beginning is trading with the original games. But to do that, one would require the protocol.
So far, we've got a VBALink log, a truckload of rather vague disassembly (including an equally vague decompilation by Cearn) and a routine to convert regular monsters to OP style (the difference being ASCII names and no encryption). Anything to get this going is appreciated. Annotated VBALink log - now updated to have more differences, as noted. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Wouldn't it be possible to copy the code from the original game, analyse it, build a program that sends the required signals to tell the other GBA that it's another Pokemon game, and it's waiting for a trade, and then log what comes back?
Or try getting no$gba and debugging the link cable data using that? ____________________ Love your lawn. |

I'm a jerk that used the wrong table to look for the monster names. They -are- being sent, u16 by u16.
sirhax0r, that wasn't very helpful at all. You basically restated everything I already knew and said, except for the program part which requires perfect timing or the game locks up with a communication error! Update: I found that data is sent in chunks of seven u16 values, followed by a mystery value and a terminator that's 0x8888 if there's more or 0x0000 if you're done. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Is the mystery value a checksum? I'd have used one if I were them, given the number of times my traded Pokémon got corrupted during transfer on the GBC. |

The mystery value is probably not a checksum.
New trade Player 1 -- Brendan with Zigzagoon and Wurmple Player 2 -- Landon with Treecko and Poochyena Zigzagoon and Treecko are traded. 0000 81db
Random, but maybe important thoughtWhen trading, you first get a screen to select your Pokémon in. This screen features both player's full party. The complete 100-byte structure is sent for each monster. Now, what if all that's really sent afterwards are the indices for which monsters are traded? The new parties are sent in full afterwards for the same screen's purposes, which also enables evolve-on-trade monsters. Just a thought. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

BreakthroughMy earlier thought is confirmed. After the party selection screen comes up, editing the RAM to turn "TREECKO" into, say "BREECKO" does not cause the 2nd player's view of your party to update. This implies that it's not sent again when you choose SUMMARY. Trading... still BREECKO/TREECKO... Trade complete. Player 2 recieves TREECKO. Party screen reappears. Player 1's view of Player 2's party says TREECKO, because the full data is resent. Conclusion: the whole transmission implied by the travel-along-the-wire cutscene is a FAKE! Another potty-break hypothesis proven! Edit: I leave you with the conclusion in motivator form! ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Okay, rollback killed the latest revelation.
Your own party is back to back with the "Other Dude"'s party. This is for both opponents and traders. HyperHacker won a cookie for guessing that. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

I was bored, let it pick a name by itself. Game chose Paula.
Last night, I was up till five to implement this screen in OP. Today, I tweaked the party screen and added a GiveMonster command to the scripts. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

Isn't there anybody who would like to take a long, serious look at this log? ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |
