Yesterday I was riding my bike to a restaurant to get some food, when the brakes failed. And when I say the brakes failed, what I really mean is that the front brake broke off. I don't really remember anything after seeing that, but I'm told I hit a pole, and when I regained consciousness, I was in an ambulance, being told I was repeating questions and was definitely concussed. I remained in the hospital for a few hours as wounds all over my upper body were cleaned up. (Oddly, my legs were untouched.) It still hurts all over.

That's sucky...
I wish I could say I know how you feel, and I mean it too. I've always wanted to see what it would be like to not remember something via concussion. I just don't want to have it happen the hard war =\

You know how you don't remember anything from right before you fall asleep, and sometimes right after? It's no different than that.

Yeah, I had a minor concussion when I had my accident. (My body going into shock may have been a factor too, and of course I was hopped up on painkillers for a good while afterward. ) It was just like he describes. It's as if you just woke up and don't remember what happened. Actually, in my case I woke up in the hospital bed and thought I'd come in for a flu shot or something (I no longer remember what I thought I'd come in for) and had just been there a long time, but then the rest of my brain woke up and started saying things like "but why are you in a hospital bed? Why don't your arms respond? Weren't you out riding a quad or something?"

Then of course the painkillers prevented my memory from working properly for a good few days afterward, so I was repeatedly asking things like what happened, how long will I be here, etc, knowing I'd asked before but forgotten the answer. It's a strange feeling, I was worried at first that I'd suffered brain damage.

It's kind of interesting that your memory stops a little before the crash, just after the brakes, er, broke. Mine is the same; the last I remember was turning around to come back down the path, which was maybe 7 seconds before the crash. In fact when my dad told me I'd crashed, I actually "remembered" falling off the machine on the way up to that spot, which isn't what happened at all (but my memory of what the area looked like was accurate).

Oh my fucking god I hate that, excuse my language.

Well for all I know they could have operated on my brain without me knowing it, which is rather scary.

I've had my share of close calls (recently, I might add) with bikes and some embarrassing crap as a kid.

I've probably been close to being run over at least two dozen times in my life and five of those attempts happened on Military Road in Benton, Arkansas because people don't know what the fuck a fucking pedestrian is. The only times I've had any kind of injuries was a parking curb brake-fail crotch job (boy did the handlebars hurt that area, being six) and rockpiling and falling down into a ditch on a bad turn at around the same age. When you see hints of white around purple and red around your elbows as a kid, you tend to freak out. That must've been the worst I can remember screaming out loud so bad that people in their houses actually came out to wonder what the hell was up. That was nice recovery.

I've never really had any really big bike accidents in my life .. I've broken a few bones, but that's about it. Kind of sucks to read this and learn what a concussion is like.

That whole not remembering anything feeling is just weird though

Any pictures of the wounds?

Other than that, ouch. That had to suck, man. Get better soon!

It's classic. Recover soon from your accident Kyouji, as I'm sure some other acmlmer will suffer some sort of high-speed collision after you've recovered. It's developing a trend, y'see.

(bonus points to whoever says "hope it's you, fucktrion")

Wait, wait. You expect him to remember how something he has no memory of felt, and even more that it would be something cool (that he remembered despite having no memory of it)?

Shadic: It could have always been a moving car. I think having completely broken brakes (not to mention who knows what other problems caused by the brakes... umm... breaking off) kinda makes you not decide where you want to go.

I remember being told a few weeks ago that I had had a concussion after falling off my bunk bed when I was a kid. My wrist was all fucked up, and I don't even remember that. I would have gone my whole life not knowing I've had a concussion before, and not be able to tell the story.

The front brakes failed?

What about the back? There is no way that you were riding a bike with only front brakes, that's just stupid. >.<

Well, at least you're alive. You'd better have been wearing a helmet, though. If you weren't, you were lucky... If you were, it could have been a lot worse.

And of all things to run into, why a pole? >.<
I ride on a racing bike, and commonly go at fairly high speeds. Back brake is generally not nearly as strong as front, and other these situations, let me just say it was unhelpful. I think I can remember the front brake, which was still connected to its Bowden cable, swinging into the front wheel, and then I felt like I was put off-balance. This is my last memory from the incident, so I believe I just sorta went uncontrollably to the side into a pole.

Also, of course I was wearing a helmet. It'd just be stupid not to.
