Posted by Legomen Holding something people would like for ransom in exchange for attention to your works in progress is very pathetic and cheap, and it's a total disservice to the community when you make it intentionally inconvenient to get when you could otherwise just let them have it for free, like most people would (people would probably give you proper attention if you did so). If you want people to respect you and your hacks, then show respect to the community. |

Posted by tyty210 You are stupid. Nintendo never did any SMW developments on the NES. Also, I qoute tuna "Who gives a shit about ROM links anymore, they aren't hosted here so who cares." ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

Posted by optomonPosted by SonicandfailsPosted by tyty210 First of all, don't tell me to knock anything off. Second, calling someone stupid for handing out information that he made up in his mind and having no backup sources is totally justifiable. Example: Didn't you guys know? Super Mario 64 was originally for the NES, but it was prolonged so they could have some tacos for lunch. It was a long lunch. ____________________ I miss post headers more. |

Posted by Sonicandfails Well, that's totally not how I perceived it. I thought he honestly believed that SMW was originally being made for the NES, not something that he decided to make up. And you are trying to make it sound like it was a very unreasonable belief by throwing in that little Mario 64 example. |

Super Mario 64 WAS originally an NES development, originally called "Super Mario 3D." Managing PPU sprites can be difficult, yes, but they were attempting to make some rudimentary 3D world out of it. Their research was eventually put towards the Super FX chip for SNES, since a lot of the aspects between the two systems were the same. It wasn't until the N64 that they decided to give the project another go.

(Note: the following post is actually serious, not ironic)
I read a part of an interview with Shigeru Miyamoto where he said that SMW was originally developed for the NES. However, it wasn't exactly a site with any credibility, so I seriously doubt that such was the case. ____________________ |

Even if It did begin development on the NES I doubt that this is the proto. Remember the SNES proto shown in early game mags looked a bit different than what is shown in the final. Racoon mario, Largely different overworld. This one is more like the current SNES game than the proto shown in magazines. |

I wonder if this pirate is based off of SMB3. After all, there are so many similarities... ____________________ Love your lawn. |

Think about the economics. Given SMW's release date in Japan and Mario's mainstream popularity then, an NES one on that day instead would've still sold incredibly well. Most likely Nintendo considered it on paper. Despite little or no known development occurring. After all, true beta SMW screenshots resemble SMB3 more than the final game. ____________________ |

Posted by RichPosted by lwares It may be decent for a pirate homebrew, but it's not really a decent game. Unfortunately, most NES homebrews get the play control absolutely wrong in just about every way, which is typically my biggest complaint with them; I have no idea why this happens, as good play control isn't all that hard to do, but it happens, nonetheless. And overall, this game isn't all that well done, anyway. I'm amazed it gets as much attention as it does, considering that the real SMW is a far superior game. Ah well. |

Posted by NetSplitI thinkt he fact that it's homebrew and decent kind of makes it notable in its own respect. ____________________ I dealt with it. |

I wouldn't say so. I mean, although it was never released, DESnet's Mega Man homebrew proved how great a homebrew can be; compared to that, the SMW pirate isn't really notable aside from the fact that you can actually progress through it (most pirate NES homebrews I've seen glitch up terribly or have unbeatable levels. Rocman is a good example of this). I might talk to the people behind MMVen to see if they might finish up the demo for public release; last I checked, most of the demo was done. Would be kind of cool to see that finally get released. |
