This hack is entertaining but difficult.
I loved the Kirby Battle.

Sparx: Weird blue orbs? Where?

HyperHacker: I think most of the important stuff is described by the message boxes... which are, naturally, in Japanese So I just look for buttons, and it served me well for almost everything.

The weird blue orbs I was talking about are in secret rooms throughout the game [the ones I found were in castles]. Like in I think Larry's Castle, but I'm not sure, at the beginning of the auto-scroll room, you can enter a door really fast, then it's just a weird blue orb. And you can find them in other castles too.

Firstly, the name of the hack is now known to be "Brutal Mario", so someone could change the title of this thread...

The blue orbs are supposedly hidden in each castle, and once all of them are gotten they should open a new passageway. However, since it's just a demo, I'm pretty sure this isn't implimented yet.

That would make a lot of sense. When I got them, nothing changed [that I could see] and when I went back into the room, it was gone, so yeah. Thanks for the clarification.

Just so that I know, how do you get the orb in castle #5?

You can find some pretty neat stuff if you open the game in Lunar Magic(it's not locked) and get to the unfinished content. I was looking to see if there was any way to go beyond where I was, and I found out there wasn't, but it still looks impressive.

I have a way to save the hidden bosses and hidden levels in a single level.

Create a level in Lunar Magic which has doors which take you to different areas.
Don't forget to set this as a level in the overworld map

That is a pretty nice hack. On the one hand the level design is basically not that innovative, but with those neat assembly gimmicks it becomes great.
Another example are the cave levels. Animated crystals (okay, that might not be that difficult with animated tile frames, I assume? Nevertheless, it is great and sometimes lets you think, you are playing Mega Man X), another use of p-switches in one cave, the leaf barrier and so on.

It is really astounding to have so many ideas from DKC2 and other games in that particular hack, not to mention the brilliant boss levels. Having forests where you can burn wood tiles with fireballs, leaving an animated flame and such (by the way, it took me a while how to get the key - it was so simple actually...)

I can read the message boxes, since the author used only some basic vocabulary and thankfully SMW (J) doesn't seem to include any kanji but kana only, where some more complex 18+ stroke-monsters would be a pain in the ass to decipher anyway, considering the font and resolution

In the race mineshaft level, my coin count went crazy... It went past 100 coins, and it went to coin O0(o zero) Just a weird thing to point out.
O0 (o zero) coins
I thought the first level of the star world was frustrating, having a hard time telling koopas from bob-ombs, stepping on a koopa, which is actually a pokey. On the ghost ship, I had a hard time getting through the cocoa puff cannons, that shoot cocoa puffs. And the level that got darker was crazy, and didn't look right, because you can go back, and it gets brighter. A few more tiny glitches I encountered, bla bla bla... It's a great hack, anyway.

Does anyone know who made this game? The ASM ideas were really good like the level when the clock and enemies stop when you step on the P switch and the SMW2 graphics. it would have been better w/different music though.
I liked the bonus game from SMB3 and the boss w/the shyguy from SMW2. However, I think some of the levels were suddenly too hard like the first level after the third castle and some of the bosses after the first castle were really hard. i kept running out of time in that one level w/the ghosts disappearing after you go down the pipe in the boat.
Also, my only other concern was that the messages were all in Japanese, but I think you can kind of figure out what they mean by what happens in the level. oh,and I opened the game up and it where it's supposed to say Bowser,it says Luigi. Does that mean you have to fight against him at the end? i'm assuming that you do.

I don't trust members whose English suddenly drops from perfect to "Engrishy" when someone says that it's uncommon for a foreign person to have good English. Also when they just repeat what's been said by another, never really saying anything new themselves.

Hell, that doesn't even seem to be Japanese on the site. At the very least something should come out,but not even Babelgfish could mangle it across from "

I have no idea what problem you're having, Celice. Do you have the Japanese language pack installed? Since it's showing as Japanese for me.

(Google's translator does fine on it, by the way. Well, as fine as an automatic translator can be expected to do. "Ogre domesticated fowl and animals king [mario]".)

Yeah, it sounds like either your browser doesn't pick the right encoding (ShiftJIS), the fonts are not installed or a combination of both.

If you have to use an automatical translator for Japanese, I strongly recommend against Google and Babelfish - excite translation is far superior (even though, as some guys in that Japanese forum's SMW hacking thread pointed out correctly a while back, no automatic translator will translate 2ch slang for you). I'd provide a more accurate translation if required, but... must...work...on...assignment...*dies*

Other than that, I think somebody should invite Carol over here. We could use that kind of know-how.

Babelfish screwed for me later after that post too. It's working fine now, so I don't know what was going on with it

Ah, yes. That one was tricky at first when I played it. Here's how to beat it.

First reach the P-Switch room. Activate it and collect all the coins until you reach a barrier of brown blocks. When the P-Switch time expires, grab the coins that used to form the barrier and enter the pipe to the left.

Enter the P-Switch room for the second time and use the P-Switch again. The barrier should disappear completely and you'll be able to reach the other side of the room. Hit the On/Off switch but don't enter the pipe below it. Instead, enter the pipe to the left of the room which is the way you came from.

Finally, enter the P-Switch room for the third and final time and take the P-Switch with you. Enter the pipe on your left while holding the P-Switch and jump down. You should land on some SMB3 blocks. Use the P-switch to turn the blocks into coins and hit the remaining block to reveal a vine that will take you to the top of the level where the exit is. The secret exit is on top too. You just have to jump over the regular exit to the right.

It sounds like a lot but it really isn't. Just never take the pipe on the right side of the room while in the P-Switch room.

Thank you; I knew about the vine, just not how to hit it without the yellow blocks in the way.

I hope that's one of the hardest puzzles in the game.
