For that countdown, you need to press the capespin button repeatedly to deflect the beams of death. (or something else of death, it was too fast for me to read the second kanji)

To deal damage to the middle guy, you have to get the one to the left to hit him with his tongue, i.e. jump up when he starts targeting you.

Holy shit, the author of this hack is some kind of ASM-demigod. I'm at the water fortress in the third world right now, and my favorite part so far has been the Morton battle .. that was just awesome.

However, I do hate his graphical glitches. Easy things that could be fixed with no issues are everywhere, and this hack would be a stellar masterpiece if they were fixed.

Also, the author needs to remove that ugly FG bush from one of world 2's forest levels in the first part. It just looks ugly.

Edit: I also just noticed in blackhole's screeny:

Wispy-fucking-woods!!

I need to talk to these people, they would help the basis of my hack greatly... bosses from other games would be good.... but whispy woods, whoa!

I don't mean to discredit him or anything, but please don't praise this hack just because the author is Japanese. I've noticed that this tends to happen a lot, and it kinda bugs me when Japanese hackers get more praise just simply because they're Japanese.

Yeah, I just wanted to say that.

I don't see anyone doing that. They're praising it because it's fucking amazing.

How do you defeat Kirby? I've tried just about everything, and just can't seem to damage him

You can pound the ground like in Yoshi's Island there. Just hit him with a shockwave from it (think first phase of the Bowser battle in YI), then eat him with Yoshi while he's stunned.

That was too easy I was going to try that, but then I thought, wait, this isn't SMW!!! So I just forgot about it =P

Edit: I also still have no idea as to what those weird blue orbs are for.

This is why when you make major changes, it's important to write a manual. (Not that it would help most of us in this case, since it'd be in Japanese, but still... )

Sparx: Weird blue orbs? Where?

HyperHacker: I think most of the important stuff is described by the message boxes... which are, naturally, in Japanese So I just look for buttons, and it served me well for almost everything.

Yes the ASM is great in this hack. The major downfall is the graphics and how inconsistent they are.

What exact rom name is this patch meant to be applied to?? ...I've tried "Super Mario World (U)[!].smc" and Super Mario World (E)(V 1.1)[!].smc and it SNES9x 1.43 just comes up with "bad checksum"

Is it supposed to be applied to a jap rom or what cause I downloaded this goodsnes rom set that contains some 10,000 SNES roms, but only just got the SMW one and it doesn't have any (J)'s at all
So im clueless

Try ZSNES 1.5.*. The patch works for me, despite using an American ROM. (Well, actually... The extracted ROM has no "U". It's just "Super Mario World.smc". I've had this same ZIP file for over 2 years, so I can't remember the source.)

Just something I'd like to say: Just because the graphics sort of clash (and there's that damn status palette error) doesn't truly degrade the quality of the hack. In fact, one aspect I like about inconsistent graphics are the references they make to other games. I enjoy trying to name the references. Especially the DKC-related ones. They bring back so many memories...

I'm really enjoying this hack. Even more so than Demo World, since the number of uncalled-for deaths are... Well, not as abundant.

Super Mario World (US).smc is the original name of the ROM I used... and it perfectly works in Snes9x.
On another note, I dare say the appreciative responses linked to the origin of the hack are less because of any kind of weeaboo drive and more because there apparently was a thriving SMW hacking community mostly hidden from our eyes all the time.

And yeah, this hack is fairly enjoyable gameplay-wise as well... the only problem I see are some, regionally, horrible palettes and graphics. But, meh, it's only a demo so we shall see.

Okay yea I found a rom now that's playing this hack perfectly. ..
Man that first castle boss really freaked me out it took me like 10 tries to finally kill that that jumping spinning green dude...and the whole pushing the shyguy off the edge of the screen was totally original.

Nothing we can do about this japanese text though right ?? ....Wish i could know what all these help boxes are saying

This hack is great! I'mstuck due to two glitches though. Both levels after the chomp destroying ground level. I get to the end of the ghost house where a door is at, and it takes me to some glitchy place and I automatically die. The other level doesn't even start, it freezes after it says "Mario Start". Still amazing!

Just for those who don't know, the boss of the water fortress, Majinka (sp?) = win.

I'm guessing that you can't get to World 8 or such since it's a demo, as I've done every secret exit I could find, and even opened the rom in Lunar Magic to make sure of that, any other exits don't seem to have corresponding goals, even though there are more levels stored in the rom then seen.
