What are all the known things you can and can't do with the intro level?
Also, have we found a way to disable the intro level entirely? I'm just wondering about this last question. ____________________ |

you also can't collect lives, i never found out why though....
you can basically do anything except what is stated here.... you can use custom sprites, ExGFX, you can do ALOT to it. ____________________ |

You can collect powerups. The only problem that may occur is if you collect another powerup while you already have one. I didn't notice any problem with 1ups. I once played a hack where the player got one in the intro level and I even just tried it out in my own hack. |

Collecting lives is fine. Rather you can't have Mario die. A few things are as of yet untested AFAIK: Vertical level, bosses, layer 2 & 3 effects... ____________________ |

Yes it would.
So far I've tried Iggy, Lemmy and Reznor. Iggy's platform doesn't show up, so you die immediately. The castle cutscene appears and messes it up for Larry, and most likely also Wendy O. I've used Renzor in my first hack in a normal level as sort of "Mid-boss" character (somehow I did something which does not trigger the end level sequence, and I really can't look it up because my original is forever gone via screwed up graphics in-game and on LM), though when you kill off two, the disappearing bridge cuts right in and can eat up the tiles in the bridge path, that and you stand on air when they show up, though it's not related to the intro level...
I particually do not bother with creating a level in the intro because I tried that once when building Super Mario Universe II, but you just cannot change the level's "Intro Theme" to another music theme. Just to note, you also cannot exit the stage via the tape sprite. Though it works normally and rewards you like any other normal level, it simply restarts the level again after the fade-out. Now, if hex editing can help, then I believe it could be possible to create an intro stage that you can beat normally without the use of the Display Level Message sprite. I would hex for myself and try it out, but I'm not that good with hex... |

Posted by Squash Monster I think that everyone was thinking that. You can still obtain 1ups, 3ups, and items during the intro level without any problems. Pipes and doors also work but it would probably be hard to get into them before the message appears. |
