I've been noticing that the system wants to keep updating to old versions... google tool bar has appeared magically, and the spell check no longer works... anyone else having a similar problem? or does my computer have some type of malware?... I fixed this by reinstalling it... this topic may be closed.

A toolbar "appearing magically" is almost certainly a sign of malware. It may not be the real Google Toolbar.

Well, yes one other person uses this computer on their account, but recently my father who is visiting for the week has also been using it, he might have accidently installed that Google tool bar, but I don't think he's done anything else... I'll check to see if I can uninstall that.

Theres a difference between accident and pure stupidity.

Pure Stupidity:
Program-"HEY WE ARE GOING TO INSTALL A SHITTON OF MALWARE OK? PLEASE CLICK OK OR SKIP STEP" Time to click ok

Accident:
Program-"HEY WE ARENT GOING TO TELL YOU ABOUT INSTALLING THIS ADDON TO YOUR FIREFOX LOL" Time to cry about it

Well, I'm doing scans for malware. If there isn't anything else doing harm I'll just uninstall firefox completley and reinstall it... that's all I can think of, it's summer I don't have anything much more important to do at the moment.

Or you can try Opera.

EDIT: Are you on a Mac or a PC, or Linux?

Broken spellcheck?

Yeah, that's no major loss.

well, it's one of those things... you know you hate it at first... then you just get used to it... I didn't mind it, it helped me on words I commonly messed up on.

I hate how so many programs give you the option to install the Google Toolbar during their installation, with the default option being yes. Do I really need a toolbar so I can search?

I don't know, I just use the Firefox built-in Google search text box (to the right of the URL bar). I don't like my applications to be cluttered with all sorts of added toolbars though.

Exactly, there is no use for "two" google tool bars, I uninstalled it, and it seems to be gone...
