New status bar features. There will be two different "modes" for the left and right status bar. These "modes" will display different information such as play time, experience needed for next skill and other information. I plan to turn this puppy into a RPG-style game. The status bar will serve many purposes in this hack.
Seen here, mode 2 for the left side displays time and a non-working EXP amount. Mode 2 for the right side just shows the same stuff but it's not working (notice the timer shows 000). Somethings go over all modes like the LOW AIR warning. OH YEAH! Notice the cherries increase the star meter on the right side (hard to see cuz of the You Tube water mark). |

Looking nice, as usual, DD. I can already see underwater levels where you have to swim from one air source to the next before your air runs out.
Just wondering, will you be removing two-player support for this hack, or keeping it in this time? Levels completely underwater may not even exist! Or provide air bubbles or pockets of air. |

Or if it's something of an RPG, after a certain X has been reached/gained, the player could go back and not drown at deeper levels.
Or survive lava on a mountain stage, leading to an alternate path, and then, an alternate world ~_~ |

Maybe Mario could use his Coins to buy more air? That or there could be something like Megaman X, where you had to collect the Heart Tank to make your health meter have more bars... or in this case collect something to make the air meter have more air... ____________________ Why are you reading this? I like the whole air bubbles idea you suggested DD, like in Sonic. That may work.
Also, while I really like what you have done with the status bar, will the DANGER LOW AIR message always beep and flip the panel uncontrollably, or is that just for testing purposes .. because I can see how that could be a bit irritating while playing. The flipping I did myself. I was flipping the status bar on purpose to show that no matter what status bar mode you are in, it will display the warning. Status bar flipping is down by holding Left and hitting select for the left side and holding right and hitting select for the right side. |

Another idea for making alternative endings to levels.
That is to have powerup specific blocks that can be broken with specific powerups such as one block can only be broken with hammers with the hammer bros suit. |

Well crud.
I don't know how involved/possible it would be to keep two-player support, but I'd just like to voice that I really think it's a shame to lose it. I doubt I'm the only one who wants to slap this thing on a disk and play it on the old playstation with imbnes, and having someone to play it with would make it many times more enjoyable. The mushoom has been changed into an L, it now shows your current level.
I've hacked in the Experience needed to reach the next level, raising levels and display those values. More to come later. |
