-Sports games like Madden *insert random year here*; face it, it's crap. It's a glorified version of rock, paper, scissors and it's boring as hell.

You don't understand the game of football.

Not trying to say Madden is the BEST GAEM EVAR but it gets a lot of stupid hate from people who 1. Don't understand how to play the game, and 2. Probably don't like sports to begin with. You have to understand the actual game of football and apply some of that to your gameplay. It's not a perfect game, it may not even be the best football game, but it is not just rock paper scissors.

-Crystalis, underrated as hell. The GBC port sucked comparatively speaking, but the original was great. I think it might've been the first Action RPG, it had a pretty good story for the time it was released, but no one knows it existed.
I loved Crystalis. I replayed it so many times I lost count. I had a ritual of replaying it to my favorite CD at the time. For years afterward, whenever I'd hear a song by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, I'd be reminded of some point in the game. I've lost that association somewhere along the road, but 1992 was a long time ago.

I'm aware that this is all dorktacular as hell, but seventh grade sucked for me. I'll take pleasant memories of that time when I can get them kthx.

I know I trot this out whenever the topic of underrated and unknown games comes up, but here it is again - The Addams Family (SNES). I originally got this because the Nintendo Power article made it look like fun and I was a total fangirl for the movie. It's still a favorite. The game is a platformer with a solid engine, a humongous and detailed map, and a treasure trove of secrets. It is player-friendly, with no instant death and easy ways to get a crapload of 1-Ups, and it generally rewards you for goofing around because that's the only way to find many of its hidden treasures on your own.

As for overrated games, the first that comes to mind is Dark Cloud 2. I loved the first Dark Cloud. Absolutely loved it. It had its flaws, and some could be quite annoying, but the game had me hook, line, and sinker. I loved hoping to find the last parts to someone's house on the next dungeon floor. I loved running the back floors of the sunken ship for gems to upgrade my weapons. The music and environments were simple, yet charming in a way that drew me in. I was super psyched for the sequel and all set for an even better experience.

Dark Cloud 2 is a good game, and its engine has certain improvements over the original's. (Case in point: if your weapon runs out of HP, it breaks instead of disappearing, so you don't lose it for good. In the first game, you were SOL.) I call it overrated because I expected to relive the magic of the original, but this game just didn't do it for me. Its towns felt too generic, and I preferred hunting for specific parts of a specific person's house to making Building A out of raw materials. It also wrecked one of my favorite aspects of the first - trolling the random dungeons for treasure. In the original game, a back floor entrance would sometimes appear on a dungeon floor. If you had the key (which was usually found as a random treasure, but you could buy them for one specific dungeon), you could go in and get better random treasure than you'd find on the standard floor. Dark Cloud 2 forced me to play Spheda, which had several issues. Depending on the layout of the dungeon, it could be anywhere from doable to basically impossible. I could only get the prize once per floor. And if I lost, I had to re-clear the entire floor to play again. I've heard that there are other ways to get good treasure, but the game didn't hold my interest enough for me to get that far.

Pokemon Pearl & Diamond DS- It's new, It' looks good, so what? the best to me are still the GBC ones! I'm a little biased because I don't have Diamond or pearl, but thats all everyone talks about!! whenever I play gold, someone sees, and they start ranting about the new games! Plus I have more pet peeves about this game!
1. People new to the franchise think that STAB was just added, uhh... NO! it just was never talked about
2. Toning down of The first 6 starters, the Kanto and Johto starters have been toned down, the most was Typhlosion, making thunder punch into a normal attack really took a blow on his strength against water types, now I'd have to do special EV training to use him around water types.
and number 3! The amount of legendaries they added is just too over the top in this game, plus you still have the 20 others to get into there, thats too many!

1.) I loved GSC as much as the next fan, but seriously... I have nearly 200 hours on my Pearl version, and only 112 on my Crystal... I think that says they did something right.

2.)You don't have to go for the legendaries, most of them are just event Pokemon, last I checked Mewtwo, Ho-oh, Lugia, Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza were the only true legendaries of the past, the others pretty much suck in stats and crap.

3.)STAB, I think that's always been known anyways... I don't see why you're ranting about it, it's just a bonus... it does somewhat more damage than an off type using it.

4.)the Starters? lets see... the moves they learn have been changed... Thunder Punch is still an electric attack, hence the name THUNDER PUNCH.

5.)Have you ever heard of Hidden Power?

I'd suggest actually picking up the game and playing it before you go off about it.

He's complaining that it's based on physical attack rather than special. After all, Typhosion has a higher special attack than attack, by a good 45-55 points (depending on nature) if each is maxed out.

The complaint about STAB was hogwash, yes.

I beat it in 2-3 days, but it took months of screwing around to find most of the secrets. Wandering around the mansion was a favorite way to waste time after school. There were two areas I never knew about until I looked at the ROM and saw their names in the plain text list of rooms.

The question is that, are those 200 hours more enjoyable than the 112 hours? Gameplay isn't just about time -- it's about enjoyment. I'm not saying that Diamond/Pearl sucks. I haven't played it at all, or even heard of its new "features", so I can't really have an opinion on the game itself; only a hunch. What I'm saying is [omg analogy time] that a short, enjoyable meal (even though it's 112 HOURS) is a lot better than a long, crappy meal. But yeah, I haven't played it, so I'm just making a wild assumption.

Most recent Pokemon game I played was Red. Latest released game being Gold.

If he's willing to put 200 hours into a game, he'd either enjoy it or have some sort of mental issues.

I'd be in agreement if we were working with smaller numbers, like for example 15 hours and 30 hours (since that's about how long it takes to beat an average RPG if you take your time, at least for me.) But this is 200 hours!

Underrated:
Madden NFL 96 (Genesis)
NHL 96 (Genesis)

This was the peak of sports games.

I got 239 hours in my Pearl, so I don't know how you got that.

On another note;

Overrated:
Luigi's Mansion- As good as it lasted, it wasn't as exciting as they make it sound. I beat it early, even the last boss with the Hidden Mansion was easy.

I must concur. This game was the shit, and I'm not even a hockey fan.

YES! I prefer it much more to that of Wario Land 4, it had more of a storyline and an adventure.
