Hi guys, I want to take a crack at hacking Mega Man 4 being a first real project to work on. I hope I am not being a bother to anyone, if I am I'm really sorry. Okay here's my question...
How does one change the level layouts in the game? I plan to change the level layouts of at least the 8 robots. The editor itself seems easy enough to use, which I got here. Well, thanks for taking the time to read my thread. ~ Nikki ____________________ - Nikki |

Not sure what you mean by changing the layouts....do you mean just like the level design/paths for the stages??
Or you mean the design of the stage select? explain ? |

Yeah I meant the level design/paths for the stages. So I don't have to make levels around the original paths.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. ~ Nikki ____________________ - Nikki |

Well the level data has several components: There is the TSA data, which is what graphics the blocks are made of. Each block has 4 pieces. Then each block is given an attribute that determines the pallete that the block uses, and what block type it has. Then blocks are assembled into 2x2 structures which are then placed on screens.
Each stage has the capacity for 32 unique screens, and each stage can be up to, in theory, 64 screens long. You can have up to 16 entries in the scroll data section. The game also has the capacity to include 4 pathway branches. A pathway branch allows for you to have multiple routes though your level, or to add items at dead ends(the B and W items mainly, since they transport you to the midpoint). Areas that you wouldn't think have multiple paths, do, like in Toadman's stage just before the first snail, and in Skullman's stage, at the spot where you go right for an E-tank or upt to continue(going up takes the branched path). Maybe not what you were looking for, but it might help a bit. |

Well, as long as I can edit the level paths like in Schwa's MM4 hack, I'll be good to go. Now that's school is out I plan to work on MM4 all summer, I really hope I can get this done.
Thanks Jigglysaint! @};- ~ Nikki ____________________ - Nikki |
