Anyone else here trying to learn Japanese? Anyone here fluent? I want some good resources - my current ones are boring me. I use:

I take lessons at a language center near my house. I'm hardly fluent, only been at it a year and a half. My half-sister is fluent, but I don't ever talk to her in it (or even really SEE her for that matter)

I don't even know if I would know enough to get around really though I'm starting to get to the useful stuff in my cirriculum. Oh, and kanji hates my life.

いいえ。

I was kind of trying to learn Japanese for a little bit. No, I wouldn't call myself fluent. I know hiragana, katakana, and a few particles/words, but beyond that, nothing. I did understand the gist of the subject before clicking in, but I didn't actually fully understand it. That's how sad I am

Actually, the reason I stopped learning was because I realized I didn't quite have the resources to become fluent in Japanese. I don't honestly consider the internet to be really sufficient. I suppose the only way I'd really be satisfied is to actually go and take lessons, but I've never been very sociable, so...

Well, what part of Mass. do you live in? Place I go to is in Marlborough, and they offer group lessons as well as private, so if you're really concerned about the social aspect of it you could always go one-on-one. Of course, I believe that costs a little more ;x

well, I'm not quite as concerned about the sociable aspect as I am lazy, and I suppose thinking about it I'd feel more comfortable in a group. I live near Woburn, anyway.

Wow, more massholes. We're comin' out of the woodwork!

I don't live near enough to Marlborough to be able to bother with that kind of commute for lessons; even if I did, I'm not sure I'd want to shell out for 'em. There's half of me what wants to learn it, to try to get a job in the games industry as a translator (I know a few folks who've gone that route successfully) but there's the other half of me that'd be content to just be a writer.

日本語が話せません。でも、漢字を感じる。私は日本語四年生ので、話すのがとても悪いんですよ。それから、日本語が一番煩い言葉だと思います。

翻訳者になりたいんですから、毎日3,4時間ぐらい日本語を勉強しています。 東京の新宿日本語勉強学校に行くつもりです。 あまりよく日本語が話せる人と話す練習してないから、まだ上手じゃないです。 でも、700漢字を知ってます。

<!--stupid center and width hack-->
I can make out random words from anime. I cannot form a sentence with these words, and doing so would probably make me sound crazy.

I wouldn't mind learning the language, but I guess I'd realistically have to do one of these teach-yourself things, and I'm guessing that's going to be hard right?

すべて日本語が上手になりたかったら、日本で住んだり働いたりいつも話したり感じたりする事がいいと思いますよ。えと、日本語が上手になるには、学校や授業や本で日本語を勉強するよりも、学生は経験に日本語が分からされるの方がいいと思います。日本に住んで住んで住んで、日本語が覚えてなりたいですよ。

日本語がよかったといいんですが。

Your half-sister is fluent in the Oosaka dialect of Japanese, which is not real Japanese.
Hasn't she ever told you the story about the time she went to Tokyo and noone could understand what she was saying? =P

And obligatory 英語なんて要らない!

Actually , I keep thinking about learning it sometime soon, just because of those just-in-case cases, and if I ever head over to japan for some reason, there you go. I really really doubt that I'll need it while living here.

Not really, not if you find a decent teach-yourself program. I don't KNOW of any, but I know it doesn't really need to be hard to learn it.

ちがうです。。。僕は、日本語が話す経験全然でありません。 8月前に退屈から勉強して始まった。 インターネットに独学して、書ける事に上手じゃないと思います。だけど、読みのは多少よいだ。

beneficii, congratulations on producing the only text in this thread I had to use the dictionary on. xD

Not....really xD never hear much of anything like that. Might probably explain why I always have trouble following along with her speech, though
