So, I've recently begun trying to learn hex editing as a way to edit levels without an editor.I decided to try my hand at Solomon's Key for a first, but i've been reading guides and a must be doing something wrong. Has anyone messed around with Solomon's Key, and knows where the level data is? Or even, just a good way to FIND the data?

Thanks in advance.

Theres actually a level editor for it.
Good choice too, one of my favorite games of all time!
I have no idea where the editor is though, so uh...Good luck

Amazing... Not only is there an editor for it, it runs online so you don't even need to download anything. (According to Zophar's Domain, anyway.) That's pretty unique. Unfortunately, while I found a link, the site seems to be down. If I find another link, I'll let you know.

I haven't really gotten too in-depth as far as rom hacking without an editor, but I believe the first course of action is to google around for some offsets. It sounds like you've already done that, though. I think what people generally do next is take a rom corrupt and wreak havoc on the code. (Keep a backup, of course.) They load that up and search for whatever changes occur, then go from there.

No that's not the editor I am talking about. There was one that was worked on by some guy and then passed on to Dcahrakos or whatever his name is.

A good way to start would generally be corruption.

Just find a good corruptor, start corrupting chunks of the ROM (not too big, but not too small either... just play with it) and when you find one that makes the levels go wonky, try editing around that area with a hex editor.

P.S. Guys, if you ha read his post:

So, I've recently begun trying to learn hex editing as a way to edit levels without an editor

Although if you want "easy to edit", you could always try Crystal Mines

Thanks guys. The tutorial about Hex editing I've been reading didn't even mention corruptors. Maybe because it was supposed to be a beginners guide. Anyway, thanks everyone.

And the online editor has been down for well over a year, so I don't think it'll be back soon.

Theres still another one out there, it was made in VB6. I've been trying to find it but no luck. If anyone has access to Dcahrakos then get ahold of him. I am quite sure he's the one that has it.

If for some reason you didn't want to mess with Solomon's Key, Faxanadu's level data's been looked into. www.romhacking.net has something on it I think. No editor, but the data is explained--that kinda applies to what you want ^^;;

... No, not so much as I told him where he could find some documented data, if he wanted a sort of "virgin" game to edit.

I didn't feel like looking up the document, nor pasting everything into this thread :/

Naw, it's not that I want to hack make a hack, and I have some good level design ideas for Solomon's key, one of my favorite games ever made.

Virgin. Yeah. I'll bet that's what that game tells all the guys.

Well, I made a LOT of progress, finding and figureing out date in this game. It's a great game, and hacking it isn't too bad once you get the hang of it, but I wasn't able to find any write ups about it. I'd like to see more (Any) hacks for this game. Just wondering, am i allowed to place information / guides on the forum as posts? Or would I have to link from another site.

Thanks
