Animal Forest Title Screen Ok, I guess it's time we migrated over to this board as well.

This is the third time this thread has started, and it keeps people updated on the work-in-progress translation of the original Japanese version of Animal Crossing, "Doubutsu no Mori" ("Animal Forest" in English).

Some basic rules: No sexual innuendos, cussing, flaming nor conversation not related to this project and the translation.
Everyone is welcome to download the IPS patches periodically updated, but no ROMs of the actual game are posted here. Following the rules of the board, don't ask where one can get the ROM, nor for someone to PM where one can get the ROM, nor anything related to how to acquire the ROM. It's a legal thing.

Anyway, all of that having been said, here is a link to the always current IPS.
This link is updated each time the patch is updated, so it's the only link needed.

This patch is about to be updated. Some of the things that have been translated this time around are:
More Nook text
An all-new title screen!
At least some of the Police Station text
Approximately half of the welcome/loading text
A few items and some other tidbits

Currently, there are three other people helping with this translation: Zoinkity, Aurakitsune and ksonic. Without these three, this translation would go alot slower and probably wouldn't be nearly as pretty. PM me if you want to help with this project and feel free to leave your comments!

Nice to have you back Pionex !

and if you want to know how my title screen looked... it was kinda' like that pic only the letters were flat and not all bouncing around . (sorry that I never got through to you on that...)

But anyway, keep up the good work!

Yay for migration! ^^

... I think I'll contribute a tad more when I'm not half-asleep at the keyboard. Perhaps tomorrow.

Later!

What's so special about the Japanese version as opposed to the US version?

There was no US version. This is the Japanese N64 game that started it all.

You're not in a position to make up arbitrary rules, but guidelines, fine

And, uh, wasn't the N64 version just ported tot he Gamecube?

Oh I didn't know there was an N64 version. So this is like an Animal Crossing proto or something?

Well, Animal crossing is basically Animal Forest but translated, some stuff changed to fit a western audience and some features added, such as the NES games. And that it follows a system clock too, I don't know if the N64 version had a inbuilt clock or if the player had to set the date manually each time he starts the game.

Actually, the N64 version has NES games. They just don't work in Project64 or Nineteen64... Also, the N64 version did require the player to manually set date and time on each play. Totakeke appears in that weird foggy screen and asks for it. Right now in the translation he tells you the clock is very fragile and that it isn't working.

I'd say the major differences from this to other versions of Doubutsu no Mori (Plus, Crossing, E+) would be:

From DnM Plus: The addition of the Farway Museum, Animal Island, Able Sisters', and other town landmarks. Two villagers, Punchy and Cheri do not appear in the N64 version (they originated from DnM Plus), and other minor things (such as more NES games, the Aikotoba password system, etc...)

From Animal Crossing (GCN): Most obviously the translation from Japanese to English. Also, a lot of e-Reader stuff, the shrine becoming a wishing well and whatnot.

From DnM E+: The upgrade to Card e-Reader+ cards (E+ depends a lot on the Card e-Reader, unfortunately), the Objects Delivery System (where you could enter a password to obtain a piece of furniture that goes in your town), added villagers, islanders, and KK Songs, and many minor things.

"Animal Crossing Zero" - I like that.

Hey, everybody! We finally have another update! What's been modded: The title screen in its (hopefully) final state, several graphic changes that I thought I included in past updates, but didn't, some more Nook employment, a bit of the Police station, some character names and about half of the opening text (when you're loading the game). There might be some more in this update, but I don't remember anything else. :-|

It's nice that this game is actually starting to feel English-ish. Anyway, have fun with it!
