Here is a list of Dummy Spells in the game... If this information is incredibly useless to everyone, then you are welcome to delete this.
Edit: Note! When testing this, be aware that I only used one monster, a fully black Mario, which was slightly edited to my liking. I deleted the dummy sequence and put in blank sequences... if that means anything. Here are a list of Dummy Spells avaliable for use in the game, and a quick description of what they do: Dummy Spells: #27: Freeze. #28: Glitch and Freeze #29: "MISS", then Bowser Spike attack, then remove self from battle. #30: No movement, no freeze. Unable to take next turn. #31: Movement, then freeze as if doing spell, no further movement. #32: Same as #30 #33: Same as #31 (pattern?) #34: Same as #30 #35: Immedate freeze. #36: "Big Bang" Animation, then immedate freeze, no damage. #37: If Defended, brings up blank "ETC" menu, both options blank. If Defense, then freeze, if Run Away, I don't know. If attacked, then Bowser Spike animation then remove self. #38: Inifinte sequence playback. #39 Sprite behavior changes to "Floating." If next command is to use spell "Flame", object moves upwards, very high offscreen. Next turn is taken to float slowly down as if entering battle. Iff attacked, then Bowser Spike, then remove from battle. Very interesting one.... #40: Does spell "DUMMY" and uses a Viro Plasm kind of attack, does MISS twice, then uses Bowser Spike and removes self from battle. #41: Glitches BG, then does glitchy attack to self, MISS, then does glitchy bowser spike, then removes self from battle, no sprire removal. #42: Inifinte sequence playback. #43: MISS on self, then black flash, Inifinte sequence playback afterwards. #44: Inifinte sequence playback #45: Inifinte sequence playback #46: Slight glitch, Mario once hit hammer animation on self, then hammer does Bowser Spike, then removes self from battle, but both Sprite are there. #47: Inifinte sequence playback #48: Makes Battle Portrait flash, then #31 afterwards. #49: Inifinte sequence playback #50: Inifinte sequence playback #51: Extreme glitching, then immedate freeze. #52: "Escape" animation, then Gunk Ball, on self? Nothing further afterwards. #53: Immedate freeze. #54: Weird one, +4 sprites then first sequence playback, same pallete? #55: Immeadte Freeze #56: Spell cast, MISS on self, Bowser spike, remove self. #57: Graphic glitch on self, then infinte playback. #58: Peach pan/fan strike animation, same pallete, MISS, then Bowser Spike, remove self. #59: Immedate Freeze #60: Immedate Freeze #61: Infinite Sequence playback. #62: Immedate Freeze #63: Immedate Freeze #104. #105. #106, and #107: Smithy ? Chest head attacks. Color of attacks in this order: Yellow, Red+Baise/White, Blue+Baise, makes Mario do Star Pieve Grab sequence. Green+Baise, Reads from Sequence or Mold 6. #109: Infiinite Sequuence playback. #110: Immedate Freeze. #111: Does some big hit attack, but does regular, then remove self from battle, graphically, but no turn. #112: Graphical Remove, no next turn. #113: Slight self glitch, infiite playback. #114: Infinite Sequence Playback. #115: Call Bowyer's attack/item/specail canceling blocks. Next turn usuable. #116: Makes BG dark, does non-movemnt attack, does not turn bright again. Can stack effects, next turn usuable. Is this usuable? #117: Infinite Sequence Playback. #118: Immedate Freeze. #119: Does non-movement attack, no sound, next turn usuable. #120: Slight graphical glitch, infinite sequence playback. #121: Same as above. #122: Infinite Sequence Playback. #123: Same as above. #124: Uses "Dummy" spell, multiple smaller "Blast" animations, next turn usuable. Is this usuable? #125: Immedate Freeze. #126: Non-moving attack, no sound. Next turn usuable. #127: Non-movement, non blackening spell. "Dummy" name is displayed. Next turn usuable. Spell is usuable? These... spells are actually pretty interesting. I just wanted to see what everything did, if there was anything beyond the oddly short list of usuable spells... Anyway, if I get the chance, I'll do some Dummy Attacks as well... ____________________ Introduction to The Lazy Shell Editor (youtube) Super Modify RPG's Youtube Channel. |

I'm gonna go a little off topic here, but do you guys know what event script handles Culex? I checked his sprite and it says 2100, but that's for Hinopio. |

I'm having trouble getting both a Snifit Sprite and a Hammer Sprite to appear in the same level.
I'm sure that the Parition is the problem... but I'm not sure, and both the snifit and Hammer use the same Vram... Any thoughts, Omega/others? ____________________ Introduction to The Lazy Shell Editor (youtube) Super Modify RPG's Youtube Channel. |

Super Mario RPG was notably lacking in much of a story (though the Mallow subplot, Geno origin, etc. definitely made up for that ); a problem that was (kinda) fixed with Paper Mario.
If a collaborative hack were to be done of it, a more complex story would seriously add to the appeal. But I don't think we can just have people say "Story: example", and go with that. It just wouldn't work. The best thing would probably take elements from everyone, writer or not, and mesh it together. One thing that made SMRPG stand out was the noticeably "un-Mario" feel. I liked battling alongside Mallow and Geno, and Peach and Bowser were still there to remind you it was a Mario game. The game was much darker in tone then you'd expect from a Mario game, and that lent to its maturity. I think a major hack would do well if we took care to balance Mario characters with non-Mario characters to maintain that tone. On that note, Mallow probably wouldn't work... He'd be too busy adjusting to royal life and meeting his parents for the first time. He'd probably be best suited as a NPC that occasionally aids your party. Geno probably wouldn't work either, his doll-form being in possession of Gaz. But you gotta have Geno, right? So would it be possible to have his star-form take possession of another sprite? (Either edit the Geno one, or copy-paste an in-game enemy/NPC and make some changes). By the way, I'm a writer, so I'm just spouting off ideas here... Let me know if anyone thinks one would work... Bowser and Peach were both wonderful assets to a balanced team, so either one or both of them should make a return. In either case, this would have to be done carefully. We can't just have Bowser say "Work with Mario." That just can't happen twice; it's too cliche. And Peach would be under more careful watch, though I doubt one adventure would have satiated her thirst for the experience. One idea that I personally liked, but I'm not sure how well this would play into the theme of SMRPG, is a story tying together SMRPG and Paper Mario... They wouldn't have to occupy the same world, exactly, but certain elements could be used. Star Road would probably once again take a big role in the hack, so Star Spirit NPCs (and a Geno star-form??) could be present. And it definitely couldn't hurt to at least mention some of the Paper Mario party-members as either NPCs or through text, since actually making one a party-member would understandably involve some difficult sprite editing (or just copy-paste, edit slightly... I haven't hacked SNES games, especially not SMRPG/Lazy Shell, so I dunno ) and event introduction.
So any thoughts on these story elements? |

Isn't it possible to import images? You'd still have to make the sprite, but that might be easier. |

Yeah, that's about the reactions I expected to get.
I still think they couldn't get Mario and Peach to look non-retarded (among other things) back then. Nowadays things are different, but a lot of sprites in SMRPG are near nightmare fuel. Especially when you see higher resolution renders. Really don't mean to troll you guys here though. Aside from the above, SMRPG is a fine game. ____________________ Wife make lunch - Shampoo Opera - give it a spin Spare some of your free time? <GreyMaria> I walked around the Lake so many goddamn times that my sex drive was brutally murdered Kawa rocks — byuu |

JamesM:
1) You can, but it will most likely glitch out with any spells other than the ally's default spells. You must edit the spell animation to do this, which the editor cannot currently do. The next version will have this capability (although with very minimal capabilities, as it will only edit exact hex values). 2) You cannot currently do this. We have added this feature for the next version. 3) Change dialogue fonts/colors/BG's in the Sprites editor under the "DIALOGUES" tab. Doomi: If you want to create a new sprite based off of an original one, just export the data of the original and import it to the new one and modify whatever you want. I recommend this instead of creating one from scratch because that is honestly a lot of work. Still, if you want to, you'll have to overwrite an existing sprite's data. master higgins: You cannot currently do this. The next version will have this capability. Elementalpowerstar: It's definitely the partition #. This was one of the most trivial parts of creating the Bob-omb Mafia hack; I guess you'll just have to play around with the search and test the partitions to see which one's you need. Word of advice: put the larger sprites (eg. the hammer bro, also any treasure chests you might add) as the first NPC's and the smaller sprites as the last. Does the current version let you move the NPC's up/down in the list? If not, the new version will. It will make this much easier. Elementalpowerstar: On your earlier question on script addresses, the new version will put the bank # in front of the "Jump to" or any commands that have a script address in them. For now, just assume the bank # is the same as the bank # (ie. the first two digits in the 6-digit address in the []'s). This will simplify the scripting and avoid further confusions. Here's a list of changes that have been completed for the next version:

I have a few questions
I am a noob at this so... 1.) In the Lazy Shell hack my Geno battle portrait is red. Is that normal or is something wrong? 2.) Is there a tutorial on how to use this properly? I am new to editing and hacking, so most of this is gibberish to me 3.) Is it possible to import custom made sprites into Lazy shell (for example putting Luigi sprites in Mario RPG) 4.) Is it possible to add a new party member to SMRPG without taking out another party member? |

*There has been an edit. Please Scroll down. I have kept the original as a sort of reference*
Greetings I have had this idea for a little while now to have optional boss battles, and if possible, optional party members. I will present you with the idea itself and and problems I have. Idea: Link- I wanted to create a secret passage in Booster's tower that only appears if you talk to someone after you beat all the bosses in the Factory. The person would be at the Casino. Now then, this would lead you to an area much like the Culex area. You would run straight across and it would take you to a forest. There would be a scene where Link wards off a shy guy. Link thinks Mario is another enemy and attacks *Boss battle*. After you defeat him he will appear in Mario's Pad. You can speak with him and he would be able to join your party. Now I am not sure if I can include him in, or if I will have to swap someone out of the party. If the case would have to be swapping someone out, then I have the idea to have that character who was swapped out wait at Mario's Pad, until you need him again. I also had the idea of allowing you to fight Link as many times as you wish. This would come about when you speak with Link at Mario's Pad. The option would be "Join?" or "Battle?" Another Idea for Link would be another Boss battle. This battle would have a boss as strong, if not stronger, as Culex. That would be Dark Link. To fight him, Link must be in your party (doesn't have to be in battle), and you go to the area where you first fought Link. I also would like to mention, Link does have some equipment that you can buy at shops. I believe that would be easy. He also has "uber" equipment if you beat dark Link. Luigi- This is simple...He's outside of Mario's Pad once you reach Bowser's Castle for the 2nd time. He will say something like: "Mario, I heard all that you've done. I want to help too" Then an option would appear: "Help me get stronger!" *Boss Battle* "Come with me!" *Leave out a Character (Same idea as above)* Now then, they both will have their own armor's, move-sets, etc. Problems: 1.) No one is willing to make Link sprites in SMRPG style. One could edit Geno, however I have tried and I have failed. I even went on a spriting request forum and I got basically laughed at. So I need some help there. 2.) I have never hacked before. I have Lazyshell and am trying to learn how to use it, but it's so confusing and would like some help. I really want to learn. 3.) I need to find out how to import custom sprites because I do have Luigi sprites. I do not know how to save them as .dat files. 4.) If I do this I will need massive help from some people and not many are will to help. I need some programmers who know what they're doing, because I know a lot of stuff above would need specific codes. Hell I would be glad if someone took this idea and did it. So long as I get the credit for the idea. However I really want to do this. Constructive criticism, comments, ideas, help is welcome. ----EDIT 6/2/09---- Link: This idea goes like this. Anytime after you beat booster's tower (level 15 recommended), there will be a hidden path under the stairs on the first floor. That will take you to an area like the area where you speak to Culex. Walk further and it'll take you to a forest (going to try to put in Saria's Song. I have a SNES sounding version). You will see a sniffit running away. Link will run after it and see Mario. He will think Mario is a bad guy like the Sniffit and then they fight. *Boss Link Attacks* I haven't decided on his Boss stats yet, will most likely come up with that when I am programing. He attacks twice in one round. Basic Attack 1 (Hits with sword) Basic Attack 2 (Hits with shield) Special 1: Arrow Rain Special 2: Din's Fire (A small fireball raises into the air. Then a large one, Meteor, will hit the center of the stage and explode, starting out small then growing large until the entire screen is white) Special 3: Spin Attack (Hits all) Special 4: Slam (He jumps into the air and slams his sword into someone [the down A attack in SSBB]) This battle will be hard because most of his attacks hits all, and he attacks twice. *End Boss* After you defeat him, he backs up, shakes his head and walks away. Go to Mario's Pad and he will be there. Talk to him and you are given the option: "Battle?" or "Join?" Link will always be at Mario's Pad even if he joins you. Only when you choose battle the boss is called Mimic Link and is slightly easier. Now then after you defeat all the bosses in the Factory, you can go back to where you first fought Link. There will be Dark Link. Link will say, "?!". This boss battle will be as hard or HARDER than Culex. *Dark Link Boss* He attacks 3 times in one round 25% of the time, other than that it'll be twice. I want this boss to be so strong, you'd HAVE to be at level 50 to even put up some sort of fight. Basic Attack 1(Double slash) Basic Attack 2(Stab) Special 1: Torrential Arrow (Arrow rain, but look larger and a final large arrow strikes the middle) Special 2: Meteor Swarm (Several Meteor's hit the characters. Causes Fear) Special 3: Split (He splits himself into 3. Each one can do the same attacks) Special 4: Shredder Special 5: Dark Fire Wall (You can guess) Special 6: Spin Attack Special 7: Dark Beam (Looks like Geno Beam with and explosion on one character) Special 8: Slam Special 9: Silver Bullet Special 10: Rullet (spell check. You know the one where the red crystal goes over their heads and randomly kills someone) Special 11: Face your fear (Only applies when Link is in Battle. He makes your allies except Link vanish for 3 rounds) Most specials will not happen until certain points (I.E: 75% HP, 50% HP and 25% HP) *End Boss Battle* If you defeat him you will get Link's Uber equipment. Dark Blade (Link's version of Lazy Shell), Shadow Tunic (Like Super Suit), Black Gauntlets (Prevents Status ailments, and resists all elemental's). The only other thing he says is "!!" against Smithy. *Link Attacks and equipment* Special 1: Spin Attack (Hold Y for Power) Special 2: Slam (Acts like Super Jump) Special 3: Din's Fire (Hold Y for Power) Special 4: Farore's Wind (makes one enemy disappear) Special 5: Arrow Rain (Goes the other way and green) Special 6: Nayru's Love (Acts like red essence. Gets it at max level, and costs a lot of FP for fairness) Special 7: Triforce Smash (SSBB final smash. Hold Y for Power. Instant kill for normal enemies if you hit Y at right time) Weapons (some bought, some found. Stats undetermined now): Wooden Sword: Like Hammer (starts with it) Dagger: Stab twice (Marrymore) Sword: Like hammer, but two verticals and one slash (Lands End Chest and Monstro Town) Magic sword: Looks like the attack with the master sword in LttP and hits twice (Nimbus Land) Master Sword: Combine Sword and Magic Sword (Hidden Chest inside the Sword). Dark Blade: Attack 4 times - vertical, slash, slash, stab (Dark Link) Equipment (Stats undetermined): Tunic (Starts with it) Work Pants Lazy Shell Water Tunic (50% less water damage. Seaside store) Lava Tunic (50% less fire damage. Volcano store) Star Tunic (Croco) Magic Armor (Secret Chest inside the sword. You have to fall down) Shadow Tunic (Dark Link) Accessories (Can equip other accessories but here are some of his. Stats undetermined): Gauntlet (Starts with it) Sticky Gauntlet (Found in ship) Spike Gauntlet (Monstro Town) Silver Gauntlet (Strength +. Nimbus Land) Gold Gauntlet (Strength ++. Volcano) Black Gauntlet (Dark Link) Luigi: Once you reach Nimbus Land, he appears at Mario's Pad. Speak with him and he says "Mario, I heard all that you've done. I want to help you too!" Now the first time around your options are: "Help me get stronger!" *Boss Battle* or "Sorry." *Boss Luigi* Attacks Twice Basic Attack 1 (Kick) Basic Attack 2 (Double Jump) Special 1: Hammertime (Like Hammer Bro's) Special 2: Oops! (He tries to jump, but he falls on you) Special 3: Flame Wall Special 4: Burn Orb (Like Fire Ord but larger) Special 5: Spin Jump (He jumps on all three) Special 6: Valor Up Special 7: Vigor Up *End Boss* Luigi then says "Wow! You really are powerful. I wish you luck!" Talk to him again he says the same thing as before, but this time the options are: "Help me get stronger!" or "Come with me!" Luigi's is more simple. The only other time he speaks is when you face Smithy. He says "Any enemy of Mario's is an enemy of mine!" Luigi can equip anything Mario does with a few new ones. Luigi's Attack is slightly lower than Mario's Weapons: Unequip: Kicks Sticky Shoes: Like Sticky glove, but 3rd attack he kicks with a big shoe. Only Luigi can equip. (Nimbus Land) Awkward Shell: Lazy Shell equivalent. Found in the same place. Luigi falls when he attacks. Only Luigi can equip. Equipment (Anything Mario Equips): Star Overalls (Croco) Accessories (Anything): Flower Ring (Boosts Special. He comes with it. His best accessory) Specials: His Specials are higher than Mario's, possibly the highest in the game. Special 1: Jump Special 2: Fireball Special 3: Hammertime (Works like Fireball) Special 4: Flame Wall Special 5: Ultra Jump Special 6: Oops! It's going to be hard to do this >.<' Let me know what you think. |

Posted by Son23 I think this is a really good idea for a hack, in all honesty, and you should do everything you can to make it happen. 1) Did you even look around the internet at all? Here are some custom isometric Link sprites I found within 7 seconds of reading that sentence. 2) Everyone has to start somewhere. There are plenty of tutorials, written for all kinds of people. Unless you have a learning difficulty of some kind, you can probably learn to use LazyShell. 3) See 2). 4) Unfortunately, the Internet is not a wonderful happy place where you can go if you want help with a project. At least not to any large extent. You're going to have to accept very early on that if you can't find someone to help you now, you may have to learn to do the things you need to get done. And is that so bad? |

I'm glad you think it's a good idea
I did see those link sprites before. That was one of the websites I went to. I didn't like them very much...they wouldn't fit well into the game. I could easily add the shading, however the overhead perspective wouldn't be there. It also doesn't look at "bulgy" as the other sprites do. If I could get a team together that would make this easy. I mean I know there may be some people willing to do this on here. I would need a spriter (other than myself), someone who knows codes to make the codes, and battle scripts. That person can make the scripts and I could put them in. The other spriter could make Link sprites (be it from scratch or edited Geno sprites) while I edit more Luigi sprites. I can also write down all the parts and details that go into the idea. Everyone would get credit for each part. I do realize that I may have to end up doing this by myself. In which case this might just end up only having Luigi. But I am going to try and find people on here and other sites. |

The idea is in here: http://acmlm.kafuka.org/board/thread.php?id=5149 I would like some help. I am good at editing sprites, but nothing about hacking and such. The .dat files contain all the properties and values for the sprite data, not the graphics. There are no raw 2bpp, 4bpp or whatever graphics in a .dat file.
To edit the graphics, its probably easier to export them to an image file and edit that image in an external paint program and import the edited image back into it. To do this, right-click the image graphics (in the "IMAGE GRAPHICS" panel in the lower-left part of the sprites editor) and select export and choose what type you want (.bin files are raw 2bpp or 4bpp graphics that are edited in tile editor programs). Likewise, you can import image files or .bin files that have been modified in an external program. For any other questions regarding importing/exporting images, try right-clicking images in the editor to see if there's an import/export option. |
