Nah, Dracoon, I think my question just got pushed to the forefront with the result that other people were ignored.

Next question, what's your feeling on age differences? The old half-your-age-plus-seven rule, something else, doesn't matter, or what?

Delete that if you don't want a point deducted.

On a similar note, it might be useful to post that rule explicitly every once in a while, so people just joining can't possibly miss it.

Posted on 03-31-06 05:58 PM, in Fights you should lose but can win (some spoilers, maybe) Link
One thing I've always really liked in games are fights where the story essentially dictates that you lose, but it is actually possible to win them, and the game recognizes that you won, even if it proceeds in the same manner. This could be a slight dialogue change (maybe "ah, but now I'll show you my REAL power!") or in some cases a rather major shift. It doesn't happen that often, but when it does, it's just very enjoyable.

Examples include Lufia II, where if you overlevel you can beat the Sinistral Gades for the first time, and you get his sword, which is one of the better weapons in the game, before he powers up and takes you out anyway, and Chrono Trigger, where on a New Game+ it's possible to beat the overpowered Lavos at the Ocean Palace, netting you the developer's room ending.

I've always been annoyed at the staged battles where you're forced to lose, but I realize some of those are necessary for story reasons. It's nice when the game developers allow you to have a victory there, even if it's just a short one before the boss takes you out anyway.

Anyone else able to think of some good examples of this?

Well, Danielle, actually, that's where you're wrong. Being single is, in fact, the end of the world. OK, well, not really. But it does suck when you really want to be with someone and you're not. At the same time, though, having a girlfriend for the sake of dating someone is really just a crappy thing, as I've learned...you should be with someone who really means a lot to you, not just some girl who's decent and who likes you.

I wonder how much Acmlm takes seriously for what goes on with these boards.

I think there's something we can do to get him to post, and he knows what it is, and just hasn't told us. It's like a big riddle.

Those are decent, Tatrion, but I think what would be better would be if there were the trophies for 1st-3rd, then medals for 4-6, then ribbons something like that for 7-10...and maybe with a bit better "production value"...but then, if I'm too lazy to do anything about it, I suppose those'll have to do.

Now, most people wouldn't really care about that. I know I don't. However, as Professor Logic, I suppose you're obligated to care about things not making sense.

It does seem from my own experience, sadly, that quite a few people seem to have the sole goal in life to have sex a lot. This is evidenced by my witnessing someone insult them when they've done something really incredibly stupid, and their retort is "so when's the last time you got laid?"

How is it cheating for them to delete the post? I think that a lot of the time the people who are posting the 5th guess just don't know the rules. And you're right, it shouldn't be necessary to keep reminding people. Which is why, if you'd actually read the entirety of my post, you'd notice that I suggested it be put into the game moderator's posts every once in a while.

Yes, ideally people should go back and read the rules...but it wouldn't be too hard to make it easier on people just joining the game.

Edit: it should be noted as well that some of the people who post the 5th guess post at about the same time as the person who made the 4th guess, so they may miss it. No sense in penalizing for something like that.

Honestly, this is a great set of message boards. Why advertise for another forum that is likely not nearly as good? Get them to be members here. Though I'm guessing this is your forum so you're an admin so you can have your power trip

Well, DST is both purely psychological and not, at the same time. The idea is basically that we're moving an hour of light, so to speak, from the beginning of the day to the end of the day. So basically, it's beneficial if you get more value out of that hour of daylight at the end of the day than the beginning.

No, he meant the 50,000th view of this topic. The problem with that is that there's no view counter you can see for that. So if you got the 5000th view, you can't prove it unless you leave the topic before someone else sees it.

So I'm sure you've all seen plenty of instances, be it awards show acceptance speeches, interviews after a big sporting event, or whatever, where the person being seen as really great thanks God and/or Jesus for His support.

Now that's nice and all, but I ask you this: does God really care? Do you really think He really thinks the Colts should win this particular game? Do you really think that He goes and punishes "bad" people so they don't win, thus allowing "good" people to win games?

And for that matter, you never really see the other side of it. Have you ever seen an interview with someone who choked during a game where he said "You know, I was doing great, but then, Jesus made me drop that pass"?

THAT is an incredibly foolish argument. By that same logic, we shouldn't make anything illegal. People will murder others, steal things, etc. FOREVER...so we should make them legal.

Well, I don't think Kira Yamato is in Stargazer, so right there it won't suffer from what SEED and Destiny suffered from

A bit more accurately, perhaps, I don't think Fukuda or his wife are very involved with it.

Well, and I think right there is where we differ. I think that people make mistakes, and you shouldn't crucify them for them, give them an opportunity to learn and all. You seem to think that if someone screws up, even a little bit, they should be shot, essentially. Correct me if I'm wrong, as I don't want to make an unfair assumption about your opinion on the matter.

Earthbound is a wonderfully eccentric game, yay for emulation since my parents never bought me a Super Nintendo, and definitely a unique experience.

Thought maybe not TOO unique. There's supposed to be another game in the series (Which includes the unreleased-in-the-US "Mother" for NES) coming out for the GBA in the not-too-far-future.
