What I always found rather amusing about massive name changes and their aftermath is that many of the threads and posts made during them seem to lose their context and seem completely random when the names are changed back to normal.

The way I prefer to see it, the madness is never over.

It just takes a break, varying in length, at times.

But it's really just an ongoing process of insanity.

Sky: Gee, and here I was worried that the kid wasn't going to have a chance to show off again.

One of the creatures, not quite down for the count, quickly found a fist slamming down on its head, as Sky walked to join the others.

Sky: I suppose I probably should have asked...is this about the worst we're likely to encounter, or does the local wildlife get more dangerous?

Almost immediately the question seemed to be answered by a "thud" and a scream off in the distance.

I think Colin just missed the fad, perhaps intentionally avoiding it. Kirbynite, on the other hand, wasn't spared, most likely, I'm guessing, due to Grey. On that note, I must admit I'm about ready to get my name changed back.

I look at it much in the same way as any sort of addiction, and the board does seem addicted to craziness...and this is how it gets its fix.

An alcoholic is always an alcoholic, according to the AA...he's just alcohol free for a certain amount of time. Similarly, the board is always engaged in madness...only it's not always ACTIVELY engaged as such.

"Bartender! Get something strong for this lady here. I think she needs it."

The mysterious man got up from the bar and walked over to the fight still going on between the two men left standing. A swift sweep kick put them both on the floor, and neither was exactly in the mood to continue. With that, the man walked back to the bar next to Nijote. Taking a swig from his drink the bartender set down in front of him, he turned to the woman.

"Alright, darlin', now that the ruckus is over, mind telling me what the problem is?"

Arminas soon found himself dragged along the ground as Sky ran past, in the direction the scream had come from.

"Sorry, kid, I'm not about to let you get out of my sight. I promised your friend I'd keep you from getting into too much trouble, and I'm not about to let it slip. Besides, there's someone in trouble over there."

Sky allowed Arminas to get to his feet when they were a bit farther away from the bugbear, but continued to drag him along. They soon reached the top of the hill over which the scream had come. There was a young woman there, a tomboy from the looks of her clothes, but under the tough exterior, as evidenced by the shriek, was a rather delicate individual trying to be something else, and an attractive one at that. Or at least she would have been had she not been thrown through the dirt by the bunicorns which were harassing her, destroying whatever semblence of order her long brown hair might've had.

Bunicorns, pretty much what they sound like, an oversized rabbit with a single horn, weren't normally very dangerous creatures for adventurers, but they preyed on any townsfolk who would cross their paths, and could do quite a bit of damage. Impalation was only done as a killing stroke; first the creatures would use their powerful legs to kick the victim around. They had done that, and one was preparing to strike.

Normally, Sky thought as he continued to run, with a pretty girl he would go with some theatrics, play-fighting them for a while before doing much of anything. This seemed a bit too urgent for that, though, and the traveller let go of Arminas for the moment before leaping from the hill to the creature preparing to deal a deathblow. First his hands glowed white, and then a wave of fire spread out around his leg. The bunicorn was killed instantly, charred all over and buried under the ground. The others, seeing what they were dealing with now, fled in all directions. Sky walked over to the girl and gently lifted her off the ground. Dusting her clothes off, he gave her an inquisitive look.

"What's a nice girl like you doing out here all alone? Who are you?"

The girl seemed a bit dazed as she replied.

"I...I don't know. I don't remember anything of the last day up until one of those creatures attacked me. I'm....Cassandra. Thank you for saving me."

The man quickly finished his own drink and ran to follow Nijote, tossing some money the bartender's way. He stepped over a few men who had fallen in the fight on his way out, grabbing one's hat, since he liked the color.

"Wait up! I feel awful, since I'm sure my intervention in the fight probably helped whoever get away with her. Let me come with you. If these kidnappers mean business, even someone as able as yourself could probably use the help."

The man was dressed rather shabbily, and fit in well as a drifter in the town. At least he did now that he had the hat, which covered his somewhat spiky short dirty blonde hair. He appeared young, but as his eyes flashed with the sunlight as he met her gaze, Nijote saw that he had experience on his side.

"The name's Nova. Yours?"

Sky: Well, then Cassandra, glad to have you on board. I promise I won't let anything happen to you. Oh, and one more thing...

Sky reached into his cloak and produced a hairbrush and a band, which he gave to Cassandra. She gave him a funny look, and proceeded to groom herself a bit. She quickly got the feeling that Arminas wasn't pleased to be standing around, and quickly tied her hair up and gave the brush back to Sky. He replaced it from where it had come and turned to Arminas.

Sky: Don't worry, we'll get there soon enough. Can't go leaving innocent girls in trouble, can we? I'm sure she can stay out of a fight if we have another one.

Cassandra speaks up, her soft voice matching her slender frame.

Cassandra: I...I can fight. Or at least I could. I don't know what happened to me there.

Sky: Err....well, just hang back for now; we wouldn't want you to push yourself.

Cassandra: All right...*sigh*...I want to help, though.

Sky: I'm sure you'll be able to. For now, though, let's get moving.

But SomerZ didn't hear much of what Kirbynite had said, having been smashed into the ground. Sky drew his sword and pointed it at the cyborg.

Sky: Circuits fried or not, if he's well enough to speak then he would know that I wasn't acting normally there. Or at least SomerZ would. Who the hell are you?

What a long way we've come, though. At least now most people have their tables at least marginally right. And it seems a lot of people are going with a rather simple elegant style...I chose that one too...that really gets across the point that simple is good. Your post should indeed be the main element of any post, not your layout. A nice layout can add some good atmosphere, but people need to remember that if it's really complex, people might like it once, but not every time you post.

Posted on 02-20-06 04:58 PM, in So let's say you have to make a rather interesting choice... Link
You are given the choice as to what will happen to a rather large percentage of the human race. But you have to make one of the choices given. Upon your decision, all of the people smarter than you, or all of the people less smart than you, as determined by some omniscient entity (i.e. not me, so I'm not sure of the criteria for definitions of intelligence), will die, and let's just say they disappear so you don't need to worry about burying them.

Consider the options:

If you kill everyone smarter than you, then you will be the smartest person on the planet, bar none. However, that also means that the planet won't have any of the great geniuses who are responsible for a lot of really wonderful inventions and policies and the like.

If you kill everyone stupider than you, then the planet will be populated solely by the more intelligent members of the species. This might lead to some decrease in the supply of labor, but that also means you don't need to worry about the stupid people...doing stupid things. You'll only have smarter people around. On the other hand, that means that you are without a doubt the stupidest person on the planet.

Sky: SomerZ's twin? Oh right, that. I hadn't really considered that. All I knew is that he wasn't SomerZ and was pretending to be. Which suggests he's probably not friendly. I suppose if I had remembered the twin-thing I might have found a nonviolent way of doing it...

Sky thinks a moment and gives a swift kick to the cyborg.

Sky: ...or not. Look, it's not that I want to cause SomerZ pain...it's that I want to cause this guy pain, and don't particularly mind that SomerZ feels it too.

Is Sunday the first day of the week or the last? We know Ailure's opinion, what about yours?

As for me, I really have no idea...

Fry-day was a promotion done by Burger King for their new fries one time...free fries to anyone who came in...needless to say, I went a couple times that day.
