Of course, that may be partially intentional; the game companies certainly have some control over what the game magazines and the like say. Granted, it's received really positive reviews it seems, but maybe they want to start a clean slate of sorts in the American market? Seems odd, but there's probably some reason for it...

That kind of thing really puts a bit of a cap on the guilt one can feel when one's mother tells you to eat those vegetables because kids in Africa are starving

Really, I don't think the infrastructure investment is necessarily too much of an expenditure to be unfeasible. I think the money is there, not just in general but even in relief efforts. One of the issues is that countries have a domestic-first policy in general. Poor people in the US are, for the most part, a LOT better off than most of the population of a lot of these other countries, but we tend to them first because, well, they're part of us. From an efficiency standpoint, it might be better to help the other countries as well. What should we do? I don't know.

I think the title refers to the fact that other than the top two posters, there wasn't really that much activity yesterday. Some of that may have stemmed from the slowness of the day before and the resultant lack of activity of that, but that's arguable. Or was that the day before yesterday?

Anyway, SF isn't as active as I'd like, largely due to the absence of people who had been regulars like Ephrion, JDavis, Melvin, and SomerZ, the latter of whom is temporarily gone and the others of whom are probably gone for good. Though I've tried to convince Ephy to return; we'll see if that works.

I enjoyed the SMWFreak article, and I think this wiki as a whole is a good idea for people quickly understanding certain aspects of the board.

As Kirb and I decide we have more time to waste, particularly the former, expect a dramatic increase in the size of anything related to the Story Forum. I had actually suggested a few weeks ago he create a Wiki just for that, and this provides a good opportunity to capitalize on that need.

Nova: Watch it!

The old rusted ladder wasn't exactly in a condition to be jumped on by anyone, even a rather sleight of build assassin, and after a quick creak broke off as soon as Nijote jumped on the end hanging from the level above. Her instructions to Nova had caused her to miss the sound of breaking as she fell awkwardly to the level below.

Almost instinctively, the Rogue had moved below her, catching her in his arms. There was an awkward moment for about a second before he put her down and started running up the girders. He yelled behind him as he ran.

Nova: Yeah, the ladders aren't in great condition, I'd recommend you stay off them.

((I agree, I looked at the sprites for SMW, and Yoshi most certainly has arms. And in other incarnations, like Yoshi's Island, he actually uses them))

Sky: Raging Bay? That just sounds like an accident waiting to happen having a village there.

Cassandra: What happened to the village here?

Speaking of ROM Hacking and Wikis, a search on the original wikipedia.org for "Acmlm" finds a link to the main site here...and nothing else. Though it might be worth having a redirect to this board Wiki at some point after it gets cleaned up.

I never buy game guides. GameFAQs is my friend

Oooh, right, you work at Gamestop...so will you be able to get the game early then, or would that be against company policy and something that could get you fired?

Pun intended?

And yeah, candrodor, even if you're not doing it for Lent, and even if you don't believe in God, it's still a good practice, as no matter what your beliefs, everyone is necessarily going to have some things they care about more than they should. The way it was described to me is that Lent is a good opportunity to do so, but really it should be done all year round if possible.

Well, they might be worth $150 altogether from one standpoint. If you bought all of them, then that might be what it would cost you (and you could find out, easily, if you look on gamestop's website as well as ebay's prevailing prices).

You need to understand that Gamestop makes its money through buying games for a LOT less than it sells them for. I wouldn't be surprised if THEY made $150 off of the sale of those games (minus what they paid you, minus costs of staff, etc). So I don't know if it's fair to look at that as a scam. It's never a good idea to expect to get money from trading things in; you should only do it if you really don't want the game anymore and none of your friends do either; heck, otherwise that's what your friend would've done. If you wanted all those games, it might not have been as bad a deal.

I don't think your friend really 'scammed' you...but I do think that caveat emptor is definitely in effect here.

I'll go to GameFAQs if need be, but for the RPG's, I like to get the guide for them. Mainly b/c I know how hard it is to find them after a few years. I have customers coming into the store, who are looking for FF8's guide and of course we don't have it and then I laugh a little inside.

Heh, I have the FF8 guide, got it for $1. It's one of the biggest strategy guides I've seen. I should clarify what I mean when I say I don't get the guides. I don't buy the guides when they're new, or ever from Gamestop. See, there's a local chain in the Cleveland area called CD/Game Exchange, which tends to have much better prices on used games than the bigger chains, though the selection varies a lot by location. A good example is my copy of Dark Cloud 2, bought a month after it was released, for $15...though mostly the newer games won't go down that much for a LONG time, and even then a lot of games won't go down to the $5-10 level where I like to buy my games.

Anyway, back to the main point at hand, the chain also has strategy guides for $1-2.50...and for that price, they're worth it.

Damn, I'm going to miss that chain when I'm working in the DC area starting this fall. I guess I'll have to go to it when I go home to visit. I've been going there for over ten years, when the best system I had was an 8-bit NES and the games were (still are, actually) mostly $2.50.

Well, like I said, I think it's largely a case of caveat emptor, which means may the buyer beware. Still, if there were ten games, then that means they were worth $50-100, which is less than he said, but unless he did the research he may not have known that. He may have thought they were worth that much.

Or he may have been trying to scam you, I don't know. Really, the best way to look at it is how much you value the DS, and how much you value those particular games combined, and compare those. Trading in games is almost never a good idea value-wise.

Well if all you want is the money, then you can use cheat codes for getting that. This way you can start in 1900 with coal power plants and the like and be proud that your city is able to build Arcologies when they first become invented rather than by your way in 4000 AD ...it's also nice to have your city growing faster than neighboring ones, a pride thing.

Um, Wurl, that's the same link as was in the wikipedia, which as I said, is a website maintained by someone who's best friends with the folks involved.

Also, in other industrialized nations, some people have it better than in the US, certainly, but one thing the US has is that there are a lot fewer unemployed and the like than in other nations. The poor are worse off than some other industrialized nations, but there are a lot fewer of them. As such, it is arguable who has a worse situation.

That really hurts any attempts to reenact Gihren Zabi's speech to the soldiers...though I suppose you CAN spell it "Zion"...but that's not how I like to use it. But I'll try, for the sake of fun:

"My brave and loyal soldiers. I'm pleased to report that the solar-ray system has reduced half the federation forces to stardust. This brilliant light is proof that shits Justice is served with massive damage incurned, any battle strength the federation forces may have left will be of no consequence! In other words, what remains of them is little more than debris. It is with confidence that i hereby declare it impossible for this weak host of enemy's to force it's way past A Baoa Qu. There is no other way for mankind to last forever except by living under the direct control of we, the chosen superior race of shit! If this war drags on, it will pose a serious threat to all mankind! We must teach those slow witted people of the earth federation a lesson they will never forget. This is the time for mankind to stand up for the future that awaits us! Sieg shit!"
