Well, SomerZ, I think it's because the Americans like to think that we're the best at everything...and any time that's proven wrong is a disappointment. We're always told that we're the best country by our leaders, no matter which political side they're on, so we're conditioned to believe it at some level, even if we know as many of us do that that's an overstatement.

Oh, and the Band I'm in, the Stanford Band, got mentioned:

Someone on the Band email list sent out a note to say they were watching the Olympics closing ceremonies on NBC, and some band came out dressed like clowns, and the commentators said something to the matter of….

“Sounds like the Stanford band…” ”it even looks like the Stanford band!”

They were wearing rather odd costumes, as we often do, playing popular music rather raucously, as we tend to do, and they appeared to be having fun while doing it, as we make it our mission to do. Was it meant as a compliment? Probably not. But hey, we've got notoriety, and that's worth something.

Generally, I think that at some levels it may be worth it to wait until the "second generation" of Nintendo portable systems, even if just following from the example of the Gameboy Advance --> SP, and now the DS --> Lite. Basically, if there are any problems with the first one, they'll be corrected, and you'll get a superior system for about the same price...only problem is you have to wait a bit...but when you do, there's a huge library of games already released!

Yay for Bionic Commando love in particular. The Katamari Damacy one was rather obvious to make. I think I still have a decent amount of those bricks laying around in my home, never got rid of them when I stopped caring about them, I may need to make some of my own at this point...

Yeah, increased tolerance of caffeine is certainly a rather minor sign of addiction. A more major sign, of course, would be if upon not getting your coffee, you went on a rampage that leveled much of the surrounding area.

Now THAT is addicted.

Cassandra: Bad or not, you heard them, we should stay back.

Sky: *cracks knuckles* That's right, ladies. It's going to get ugly here pretty soon. You there! Stop running and stand and fight. Or surrender, either way. You're not going to get away from us, and you're not going to beat us. So give us the girl and we might let you live.

I really think it says something that the original Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past, and Ocarina of Time are all on lists of potential "greatest games of all time"...while a Mario game tends to be the first title of new Nintendo systems, and tends to be quite good, it's the Zelda game that comes later that really blows everything else out of the water.

Well, the fact of the matter is that while smoking is linked to negative health outcomes in general, some of the worst things, particularly lung cancer, are not quite as easily linked to smoking as they're often portrayed to be.

This can be seen through the fact that in many cases people who don't smoke, and don't get that much second-hand smoke, can develop lung cancer, while the vast majority of people who smoke like chimneys don't get it. Yes, an increased number get lung cancer as compared to the general population, suggesting there is a connection, but it's not as strong as we've been led to believe. As with most types of cancer, the most important factor is a genetic predisposition to it. Unless you have that, even if you smoke a lot, while you might have other health problems, lung cancer isn't likely to be one of them.

Always in the mood for grand entrances, Sky made this one no exception. The dust blew around outside the door for a bit, as the breeze picked up and clouds covered the area. A single lightning bolt streaked down from the sky and hit the ground with great force, creating a smoky atmosphere. Before it had cleared, the magewarrior had kicked the door down. The entrants for the tournament and those just standing around saw five figures striding in.

The first was dressed in the garb of a Red Wizard, though he appeared to be significantly less frail than the weak fighter those tended to be. His cape swung in the wind as he gave a dashing smile to those around the room.

He was flanked on his left by a girl dressed in a rather tight bodysuit not unlike Samus's own wear beneath her powersuit. Her hair flowed behind her, brown and wavy, and it swung a bit as she walked.

On Sky's left came another man, this one decked out in a dark cloak, his hair closely cropped and his demeanor less than pleasant.

Behind these three walked two younger members of the party, the one in a magenta wizard's robe, underneath which she wore a simple green gi, and the other in a long black trenchcoat and nearly brimming with technical gadgetry. Both of them seemed to resemble Sky somewhat, though each had a very different look about them.

Sky: So...where do we sign up?

The sabrecat, on urging from Nova, bounded up the pile of rocks and stopped next to Nijote.

Nova: If you heard about the job to kill her, then you probably know who we're going to have to go after at some point. But even then, they're not going to let go of someone so easily. I want to help you get out of this completely...if you go it alone, you never will.

Sky saw the foolhardy youths rush at the kidnapper, and both of them get taken down rather easily. Taking a rather different approach, the magewarrior decided to play a different game with their adversary. He drew his sword and extended his collapsible shield and advanced on the man...slowly, carefully.

Sky: You took out the kids' attacks because they wanted to take you out quickly...I, on the other hand, will be satisfied with taking you apart bit by bit. No more tricks, just you and me, blade to blade...assuming you have one.

Sky: So, crazy tyrannical one, what are the mechanics for this? Is it basically a 2 on 2 battle as normal, or will the 'tag' aspect figure in such that one person fights as long as he feels able, and then 'tags' his partner or what?

I am wondering how long this fad will last. This is a decent nickname, but I'd rather not have people think this was my normal username

And I think she should come back and get fourth. I'm not going to fight for it, after all, but I'm also not just going to roll over and play dead

I fact, I think you should PM everyone in this thread and tell them how cool they are. And then respond to them. And then respond to their response. And just keep going until we all have 596 PMs in our accounts.

The explosives never reached the Goron, though, as Nova popped off a few energy blasts, knocking them out of the air.

Nova: Are you crazy?! He kidnapped Mitra, and she could be right up there with him! You blow up that cliff, and she dies too!

The kidnapper's concentration must have been hurt in the next moment as Sky, who had neared him, tossed a dagger which he had let slide into his left hand directly at the man's chest. This should provide a good metric for whether his sword would work, without taking that risk upon himself directly.

You know, this poll shows that I can have a dirty mind at times, and has inspired me to make said dirty-minded version of it in the appropriate forum.

You can see it here, though I suppose I have to say it's not, erm, "child-safe" discussion.

Well, I would certainly imagine that staff have quite a few more than most other people, as I'm sure you get requests to look into threads and the like and fix things which non-staff users don't tend to receive.
