A young man smiled as Star passed him, not noticing the traveller sitting in the shadows. The dark crimson, almost black cloak doesn't really stand out all that much even in a forested setting, he thought. Perhaps one day when he was a bit more confident, he would eschew stealth and go for something a bit brighter red. That was, he mused, more his style. He decided to call out for the swordsman, see if he was worth the traveller's time.

???: You know, skill isn't quite so linear as you make it out to be. Just because A can beat B and B can beat C doesn't mean that A can beat C. If it were that easy we wouldn't have many battles. So I wouldn't get too confident in your position as the "second-best swordsman" if I were you...you could end up being very disappointed some day.

Kind of a modern persistence of what's historically been known as the "one-drop rule"...

I mostly agree with you on SS, but I think this is one of the occasions where relativism may in fact come into play, as it's not necessarily a discussion of right or wrong. What I mean by this is that if the "hooking up" as the norm is deeply entrenched enough, then even the "nice guys" who really do genuinely care a lot about a girl may do that relatively early on.

A decent indicator with that in mind, perhaps, is look at the dates you go on. If they seem to be designed for hooking up in the places, times, methods, etc. then that's not exactly a good sign, though not necessarily the be-all and end-all of it. On the other hand, if what you do tends to focus on other things, and it doesn't seem like he's just doing those and going through them (rather, that he's actually enjoying the other things) in order to hook up later, that tends to be a pretty good indication of genuine interest.

Beyond that, well, there's not much you can really do. Asking would be the ideal solution except that, from what I've seen, shallow assholes can certainly pretend to be "nice guys" for quite some time...which is where you get the girls crying "but he used to be such a good boyfriend!" when, in fact, they're just finally seeing the guy as he actually is.

Strato dove to the side to avoid being skewered by a particularly large metal shard, throwing up another light shield to guard against smaller pieces. It had become abundantly clear which side was the bigger threat to the general order here, and decker wasn't about to let that destruction happen again. He would have to dismantle the weapon before it got fixed up.

At that, he began to sneak through the ruins of the city towards the weapon, deciding it would be best to delay any confrontation until he had just about reached the target. After all, he mused, it might be heavily guarded inside. In the chaos, he guessed, they hadn't seen him yet.

Sky: Well, then now I feel even worse about that.

The magewarrior quickly knocked on the door and yelled "Sorry!" to the inhabitant.

Sky: If you insist. What's in the caves, anyway?

Sky sat at the table in the meeting room with his arms crossed and a sour look on his face. This was the first time he'd gotten the chance to take Anubis out for a spin, and everything had gone pretty poorly. It had to be Melvin's fault, as these things tended to be. He glared at the nerd, who wasn't doing that well at the moment, it seemed, before raising the obvious point.

Sky: Would you tell me what the HELL just happened back there?

Well, your hands should probably be on the handlebars rather tightly when you want to stop anyway, to avoid flipping off the bike. Beyond that, there's probably a good reason by all but kids bikes have handbrakes rather than footbrakes.

It really doesn't take that much time to be a good SFer or SBer, if you don't write...14.5 pages (!!) for each post. Time shouldn't be that much of a factor. We always need fresh blood, after all.

I really don't think this is going to have that much of an effect on sales, for better or worse. The amount lost by childish people will probably be no more than that gained by people who appreciate the "quirkiness" of the name.

That said, "Wii" is an awful name.

That sounds...pretty awful. Probably the weirdest thing I did was when I was getting a TV back to my dorm room from a place on the edge of campus (the guy was giving it away for free). Pretty heavy, and biking with no hands most of the time. Dangerous and possibly quite stupid...but it worked.

I'm going to have to agree on the "nobody should really wear makeup" thing. Granted, you can't really tell that it's makeup if it's done well, and you're at a distance...but nothing is ever really perfect, and it's just...somewhat off-putting to me when a girl's got more than a little makeup on.

((Not sure how much of that was you, and how much was your character. If it was the latter, then I'd say it's taken care of...if it was the former, in order to keep time continuity I had to respond to her first, and then, you'll note, I did take note of your character, and respond accordingly, albeit in a subtle manner. Sky's just that kind of guy.))

Sky: Calm yourself, friend. I wasn't ignoring you; I said rather clearly that yes, what you have is the same as mine and that of...Seraphim, was it?

The Red Mage suppressed a scowl. The fighter was, it seemed, just as dumb as he looked; nothing but yelling in his face would get across a message. Sky had dealt with the type before, and didn't look forward to the possibility of a long journey with another. He was able to smile as he turned again to the fighter, as he remembered what his mentor had told him on the subject.

"They make good meat shields, though."

The tropical island was in the middle of nowhere, just to be safe, and was a few miles or so both long and wide at its largest points, though the shore was anything but even. A large, craggy mountain face stood tall on the north side of the island, with a dense forest on it that extended over much of the island, but thinned out quite a bit a little ways from the mountain. A small stream flowed down the center to the ocean, carrying cold, clean water. The beach dominated the southern part of the island, though a somewhat more narrow strip surrounded the rest. No animals resided on the island, except for a few seagulls standing on the shore, though all kinds of plants filled this tropical paradise. The sun glared overhead, bathing the beautiful island in golden light. Various rocks and small hills were scattered over the island, with the ground of most of the island a mixture of sand and earth with patches of grass here and there. The sand began to stir up into a whirlwind, and with a flash the figure of Sky stood tall as the wind whipped his cloak about. The challenge had been sent out, and he hoped for a good opponent.

(Also, in your accepting the challenge either make the first move or say you'd rather not go first; either way, make an entrance)

Thunder split the air. The bombed-out city had released gasses into the atmosphere, making the weather all the more volatile. Some buildings dozens of stories tall still stood, long abandoned by their tenents. Mostly there were piles of rubble. Some power remained, and the sewers were mostly intact, as were some street lights and other such furnishings, but the city was turning rather rapidly into a wasteland. A light green fog even bathed the streets, covering everything in a sick greenish color. An odd battleground, to be sure, but it could prove interesting. A bolt of lightning streaked to a mound of rubble and struck, making a small explosion. When the dust cleared, the young Decker, Strato stood tall, awaiting his challenger.

((While I don't mind making the first move, you haven't exactly given much of a reason for my character to do so))

Strato was about to set up his instruments to try to find life readings, in case of any hostiles in the area, when he quickly decided that he wouldn't need much in the way of sophisticated tracking devices. Whoever it was that was in the vicinity wasn't exactly attempting to be stealthy. Even through the fog, the decker could see something...someone, likely...creating quite a stir in this relatively still environment. Strato mused over who would bother to blow up that which had already been destroyed as the being drew closer. Just in case, he put his hand the hilt of his sword, but didn't draw it. He hadn't come here to fight, after all, but if the other proved hostile, Strato was going to make him regret it. It was as he thought this that the figure emerged from the ruins of what had been a drugstore. He was big, to be sure, and seemed somewhat out of place here. Then again, anything alive would.

Strato: Who goes there? What are you doing?
