Ah, rules against being a jerk are great if they can be properly interpreted and enforced.

And we could always have tournaments in other things in between the Literati tourneys.

I think you make a good point there, Colin. Intelligent rebuttals to his points are one thing, gives a sort of moral high ground. But when people respond by making ad hominem attacks and sending really rude emails and the like, it does kind of suggest that gamers aren't the best of people. At the same time, it doesn't feel great to just sit there and take it, so to speak.

And for my own part, I feel I should note that I schedule time when I can, as does the Pro-Life group I'm involved with at Stanford, to go to Heritage Home and New Creation Home, area organizations which work with young mothers in need of help, and the group has also organized a "community baby shower" to gather necessities for campus mothers. There is a big difference between anti-abortion and really Pro-Life, as the story demonstrates, but I hardly think giving ALL of one's time/energy/money is necessary to be sending a consistent message. But some, yes.

Memento, hands down. Just a really great movie, with a number of cool twists, simply because you can't really know what's the truth and what's a lie.

For Earth Day I'm going to be taking a bus rather than driving.

A bus to a Band competition at Davis. Which is supposed to be awesome, but I've always been busy in prior years. We'll see if it lives up to the hype.

Well, don't be so quick to dismiss what Tommathy has to say. While obviously he doesn't quite share the same opinion as I do and as you seem to, he makes a point that is quite a bit friendlier to those of us who are Pro-Life as opposed to merely anti-abortion. Yes, I do feel that other options are necessary, and it goes to show the hypocrisy of the "Pro-Choice" movement that they would deny the availability of other choices to mothers.

I'm not just pulling this out of my ass, either; I've talked to congressmen who have tried to pass legislation which would help give aid to mothers...the abortion lobby views any attempt at any aid other than support for abortion "clinics" and the industry as a whole...and indeed it is an industry, and an extremely profitable one at that...as an attempt to undermine the system that has been put in place, the status quo of the choices to a woman of killing her child or raising it with no assistance. It doesn't exactly stop there, either, as these places cover up abuse (even going so far as to brag about it) and just shove the women out the door without helping with post-abortion counseling that is so often sorely needed.

The only people who really benefit from this in our society are the abortionists.

Well, the problem with people trying to band together on this is that the more posting there is, the more he has to reply to. If he's that determined to spam his way to a new record, I say just let him.

I think SS does a good job of the "hate the sin, love the sinner" paradigm expressed by most Christian philosophers and holy men. He's saying he has a strong sense of morality...which I think ought to be obvious enough from his posts...he didn't say he thinks he's a better individual than those whose actions he's criticizing. And I feel similarly on the matter to what he seems to be expressing.

You don't hate the women who get the abortions. In many cases, perhaps even most, it's not truly their choice anyway. So many abortions have behind them a man demanding them, largely because he doesn't want to pay child support. Even if it isn't direct coercion like that, there's a certain coercion of a society that doesn't give women the support they need, the reasons for that being stated partially in my last post. You can't really blame a woman so much for that action when she's being told by society that she should, nay, MUST do that.

Huh? The whole point of the choice thing is that hey, abortion sucks, but so do other options, and it's up to each individual to make their own choice from amidst the suckiness.

The problem with that is that, as I previously stated, at least in the US, they are actively trying to prevent the growth of other choices because, loathe as they are to admit it, the abortion lobby is powerful largely because it makes a lot of money, and wants to make sure it stays that way. Just because you think other choices suck doesn't mean you should try to make sure those other choices aren't available, because, you know, other people might not think they suck so much.

30+ extra minutes added to the movie? Huh, maybe in the original version they cut out the parts that made it make sense. If the extra is any good, I may need to rent it at some point. I saw the subbed version, and while the visuals were awesome, it was overall pretty meh, so I see no need to own a copy. But it may be worth renting a DVD to see the extras.

The irony is delicious. -- Also I would like to point out that I am spending less time on the board than ever...But can't do that in plain sight because it ruins the message, no? -->

Well, I say that largely because of just that...you spend hardly any time on the boards, but most of it is 11PM-midnight posting as much as you can to make sure you end up in first for the day. And then no matter how active the board may be you then leave right after midnight.

Jeez, my relatively little posting from last night and this morning somehow brought me to one post below the highest poster for today? I would say that's sad, but the fact that there were more total posts than on the prior day is actually heartening. Lots of people getting fewer posts each is better than a few people getting a ton of posts.

And Kyouji, as for your claim that you haven't won most days recently, I'd say your current ACS score suggests otherwise.

Man, FF4's port was great. They put back in everything they took out of it for the original American release of the game (though maybe that was already in for the PSX release, I dunno), but far more impressive were the two massive extra dungeons and the ability to swap in the other characters for the last portion of the game. Really well done.

Granted, I loved FF4 anyway...I wasn't really that much a fan of the job system in FF5. I like the jobs systems in FF3j (the only game in the series not released in the US!) and Tactics better...

Jumping off of swings once they get up high is the most fun you can have on them.

It's also one of the more dangerous things you can do with them.

It could be that you were scared because of that, which I think would be a potentially valid reason...so even if that's not the actual reason, you should say it is. I was lucky in that the playground where I normally played had a BIG open area in front of the swings, with rather fine gravel, making for safe jumping.

Honestly, I don't think you necessarily have to have tried something to have some opinion about it. You may not be entirely informed on the matter, but in some cases it is possible to be better informed than those who have tried it. I think weed may be one of those cases, based on the "lol weed" culture as it has been dubbed.

Eep, looks like the thing that matters here now is whether I lose this round or the next. I'm just not all that good...and it seems bass is. So if I have the choice, would I rather beat Colin and get pwn3d, or lose respectably?

Certainly better than the tooth removal of sorts that happened to a member of the Stanford Band today in the picnic day where we and several other bands were playing. I'm not entirely sure what happened, as I witnessed mostly the aftermath, but from what I gather, one of the sax players (tenor or alto I'm not sure), while playing, got hit by a beach ball...or something similar, but a bit heavier...rather hard, and chipped his two front teeth.

I'm not sure if I'll have to get my wisdom teeth removed or not. The dentist I go to every once in a while didn't say anything about it, so it's probably not urgent.
