While were on the subject of Castlevania, does anyone know if it is possible to increase the number of rooms in a level? I'm hoping there is, and I wouldn't mind if it meant decreasing the number of rooms of another level.

OK, this might be a little premature of me, but since I'm going to Japan for a week, I'll showcase some progress I've made on this game's soundtrack. So far I have sequenced 4 1/2 songs. All except for track 5 are original pieces.

The nsf is below. I will guide you to the new tracks.

Track 2- Theme for Castle Entrance. It is a slightly modified version of the midi I attached somewhere earlier in this topic. There are multiple melodies running at the same time in some parts, and this caused some problems because one of the squares get blacked out whenever sound effects occur. I have learned to tone down a bit on doing such compositions in that style.

Track 3- Theme for Royal Chessboard. I'll probably scrap those first three notes. Probably the oddball of the bunch being kind of unusual for a Castlevania song but I think it's appropriate for one of the games' quirkier levels.

Track 4- Theme for Top of Olrox's Palace (?). The reason why it's short is because it's incomplete.

Track 5- Theme for Olrox's Quarters. This is Dance of Pales from Symphony of the Night, I believe the same theme that played for Olrox's Quarters in that game.

Track 7- Theme for Courtyard. An attempt to bring more grace to one of the prettier stages. Might change a few notes around.

If you're wondering about Tracks 6 and 8, these were used in another Castlevania game I was hacking some months ago. 6 is the baseline for "Rising" and 8 is of course a theme from Castlevania 2.

Here's the ips, apply it to castlevania's original nsf.

I made the lighter palette for the green sprites more pale when I was test playing, and it looked better to me. I especially love the ghost.

I was fishing through the rom yesterday, and found ways to create new rooms and control their sizes, with some limitations. I''ve discovered a few things on enemies too, so expect something from that.

I'll attempt to make a point.

If you take your hacks seriously, and have commitment into constructing a that is so different and improved from the original, it might take some pain into coming up with creativity and might even do it at the expense of other potentially important things sleep, sanity, health and personal time.

Or perhaps, it will take some pain in order to learn new techniques to hack games. Or in many cases you do it by yourself for extensive periods of time and become insecure how your audiences will judge your precious works.

While fulfilling our fantasies and putting our levels of creativity to the test may be fun and exciting, there may be a side of hacking games that isn't fun. I call it work. For example, when you have to switch all those tedious bytes one by one.

Something along the lines of that.

Nice hypnotic piece. Did you make the entire nsf from scratch? That's really cool if you did.

I'm a little over halfway done with the soundtrack for Castlevania: Chorus of Mysteries. An unupdated ips of the soundtrack is available in the topic for that game's progress. I'll likely finish the soundtrack by the end of the month.

Edit: that nsf is a simple hack of Castlevania's nsf. I just copied the info from the rom into the nsf (though when I'm actually creating the music, it's the other way around). I don't exactly know how to make my own nsf soundtrack from scratch.

Yes sir you are very accurate. I am very piano based, and also have little idea about drums and rhythms in general. I was planning on omitting them completely from the soundtrack. If you'd like to help out that's be great.

Wow, another brief off subject Super Metroid topic. I think this is strike 3.

Before this topic explodes to death, I have seen someone acquire screw jump before without those items, and it looked very tedious. An challenging acquisition I know of is getting the speed booster without varia suit but I think its a little bit easier to do.

For me, terrorists are people whose objective is to attack innocent people in an attempt to coerce the governments of their victims. It is a horrible and desperate tactic. It was used often in World War 2 by countless countries including the United States.

Israel, as far as I know, does not intentionally kill innocent civilians. They do kill civilians, but it's unintentional and it's not their objective, killing Hezbollah is. Israel however is at least pressuring the Lebanese government to make them get on the same page politically in eradicating Hezbollah. While their actions are violent and deadly, I feel it would be unfair to label them as terrorists.

Hezbollah is a terrorist organisation. They launch rockets into Israel with the objective of killing civilians to make Israel think differently about invading their country. Before that, they were terrorists anyway, with their bombings and kidnappings and such.

I just want to say that there is a difference between the kidnappings by Israel and those by Hezbollah.

Hezbollah kidnaps Israelis with the intention of exchanging them for a release of thousands of political prisoners in Israel. Israel paid a fat ransom to Hezbollah under similar circumstances in 2004. This time, they are not tolerating it.

Israel kidnaps people who they believe are affiliated with terrorist organisations with the intention of incarcerating them. Kind of like Guantanamo Bay I guess. While it is likely that a number of them are innocent, they are at least not being held for ransom.

The point I was making there is that Israel does not fit under the definition of terrorism while hezbollah does.

The word terrorism has become a propoganda tool that is starting to carry a very negative connotation in this day and age. I understand how that could upset people. It is used to pit America against the Middle East, by citing the familiar tactic used by Arab militants against US civilians. Personally, it upsets me because now I don't get to use the word without offending anyone.

Terrorism is more bullshit than collateral damage. While both are bullshit, one pile of it smells a little worse. We're talking something along the lines of first degree murder vs. third degree murder. But in the end, no one is really going to care about which one is more brutal because the result is pretty much the same: the innocent die.

Like I said earlier, terrorism is a policy of desperation. Many Arab militants in the Middle East are desperate as they are no match for Israel's military to be attacking them head on. So they attack what they can to win. Terrorism is their only real chance of victory and I could understand their reasons for using the tactic.

Doing the wrong thing for the right reason is what I feel both sides are doing. They are both fighting for what's good for their people. And now that Israel isn't tolerating ass kickings from Arab terrorists anymore, heated conflict will take effect.

I am very close to finishing this games soundtrack. I just finished sequencing the ending theme. I have about two or three minor tracks left.

I'm really pressing for this game to be something truly special seeing as it might be my one chance to have enough time to work on a game this much. I've been trying really hard to change some of the enemy behavior. I've found some very particular things, like alter their speed and how many come on the screen at once or how many points they're worth. And I JUST discovered where the data is stored for the number of hits an enemy takes. Wow, this looks as if it could lead to possibly making normal enemies into bosses and vice versa...

I'm documented a ton of crap on how to crack particular data in Castlevania. I'll likely release it as a text document sometime later.
