I figured SOME ONE should post a hack now that things are active again. So here goes...

Here's all sorts of fun info about the story and some screenies:
The Story:
The world of Utaria has been cursed. As the world dies the people start looking for a sign of hope. Four people travel to the town of Civilius to try to find a way to stop the curse. They are all wearing Civilius Peace bracelets. The King finds out about the travelers and relates them to a prophecy that the four warriors wearing the peace bracelets can break the curse. The king calls on them to tell them that Valkner the Spiteful is the one who has cursed the land, and they must find him and stop him.

The travelers:
Leif- A warrior from the town of Sentrus. He is skilled in stat enhancement.
Nena- A healer from the town of Hydris. She is skilled in healing.
Cid- A specialist from the town of Tetron. He is skilled in stat decreasing and can use wooden weapons.
Rahn- An archer from the town of Taurus. He is skilled with arrows.

The villian:
Valkner the Spiteful- An ancient warlock with great power. He's put a curse on the world of Utaria.

Encyclopedia:
Utaria- The world in which the story takes place.
Civilius- Known as the town of hope. Located in the center of Utaria, it's the center of civilization in Utaria.
Civilius Peace Bracelet- A famous gift from the town of Civlius. It's meant to be worn as a sign of hope.
The Crest of Civilius- The symbol of Civilius. It was made to look like the map of the town and it's surrounding area.
Sentrus- A town of powerful warriors. Very powerful weapons can be found here.
Hydris- A town of magical healers. The town is known for affordable healing.
Tetron- A town of people known as Specialists. It's said that they have a new way of travel.
Taurus- A town hidden deep in the forest. Legend says that it has magical properties.
The Specialists- A group of people with technology far more advanced than the rest of the world.

SCREENS:

Click on the map for a larger picture of Civilius

New Features:
A set party. You can't change classes or character names.
All weapons and skills will be specific per character (A list will come along with the patch)

I say we at least set up the stickies that were the most helpful and active. The Screenshots, FF Q/A, and SMB64 stickies come to mind. Let's just hope things don't get lame in here though.

Right now, the green stuff is crappy placeholder plantlife to keep the player from exiting town.

Yeah, It's in the forest, I already have a ton of ideas for it, that's just the pic I have of it so far. I need to make gfx for a full tree eventually (A Link to the Past style) for other towns.

Dead? Nah. I was making a short film. Anyways, I proudly present to you... A tree!

It's a work in progress... I don't have too many tiles left to work with.

Here's a couple of screens and a third one that's a spoiler... so it will be a link.

This is without the border in the fights, the only problem is I can't get the bottom of the window to look right. It still has the bottom that curves up in the middle for the seperation.

The beginnings of my Valkner's Castle Tileset.

I skipped ahead a bit and made the last boss. You can click on it if you want to see it.
Last Boss.

Two new Encyclopedia Entries:
Lien- Rahn's older brother. He has travelled deep into the forests of Taurus to try to find God's Horn.
God's Horn- A magical type of arrow found only in the dark forests of Taurus

I started thinking about the extra quests expansion that I'm going to make after I finish the main game for my FF hack, and well... lets say I don't think it's going to be as serious as the main game is. Here's two enemies that I made for it:

The Flying Spaghetti Monster and Trogdor the Burninator... yeah...

Shhh. I ripped some Graphics. Let's keep that between you and m-
What? I posted that publicly?
*shot*

Seriously though, other than those mountains and the mapman sprites I intend on hand drawing all the GFX that I change.

On another note, I'm going to make a request. I want to find someone who can make some music for this hack. This isn't a request because I don't know how to hack the music, because I do. I just can't compose a piece of music to save my life, so if anyone out there is familiar with FF's music format and would like to help out let me know.

I have a kind of big update here. It's nothing huge but it's definately one big step closer to having the first part of the game done. I finished Valkner's Castle and I have some of Civilius Castle done. As soon as I'm finished with that, I figure out why the fighter class can't cast magic, and I have a final edit on the text I'm going to release a demo of everything up to the bridge. Here's screens of the Castles:

Civilius Castle

I decided to release an early demo. Nothing in this is final and it's all subject to change, but I just kind of wanted to get some sort of release out there. So here it goes!

Be sure to read the readme file or else you'll have no idea on who gets what skill or weapons.

You're right! It's my stupid webserver screwing things up as usual. Apparently you can't change file names. Here's a working one:

**EDIT**
Not 12 Hours after I posted that patch, I decided the monsters looked ugly, so I made new ones. Check 'em:

Thanks, the whole deal with speeding the character up came from a conversation I had with Bit Blade about RPGs. The characters a waaaay too slow in them. If you were the only person who could stop the world's destruction I have a feeling you'd be moving a little faster than a crawl.

Let's keep this constructive please. They both have thier pros and cons. As far as I'm concerned though they both are pretty weak right now. I'm more partial to Data Crystal for thier layout despite the fact that it doesn't have as much actual data for the games I'm interested in. I might try to help out with that though.Personally, I think a big problem is that it took a Scene Death thread for anyone to actually give a crap. I mean this board is crawling along, but this thread is the most active (and I mean active by a bunch of different users, some of which I don't think I've even seen post since the board came back) out of any other one. I just think people aren't putting the effort in, and then talking about why there's problems.

Well I figured I'd put my two cents in about that "desert theme." It was more than just editing the GFX, I had to change the way the backroud tiles were arranged, but that's not too hard. There is an editor out there for it. If you intend on doing some nice GFX changes I'll host it up on my site so you can get it when I get the time (It's finals week... blah)

I was messing around a little bit with the original Mega Man and this is what I came up with for Gutsman's stage:

It might be a WIP, I don't know if I actually want to do anything with it or not. You might notice though that they are based off of the intro level from Mega Man X 3

You either wrote over the blank tile for the menu backgrounds, or somehow screwed up the drawing routine for the menus. If you did some Hex editing, it might have been the latter.

So I was hacking Mega Man via Dan's excellent program Rock And Roll, but I've run into a major problem. I changed the first screen of Cutman's level but now when I start the level off Mega Man teleports through the floor, and goes back to the top of the screen in a never ending teleportation of infinity. Anyone know what's going on? I can post a screen of the editor window with the TSA/Attribute window open also if needed.
