That's Luigi's tilemap. If you actually read my instructions you would know that in order to edit Luigi's tilemap, you have to edit Mario's tilemap with SMWPTE and then move the data manually with a Hex editor. (The "copy the file" thing is done to preserve Mario's tilemap.)

Make a trace to find the instruction which changes the Mario/Luigi byte. Right after it, add a subroutine to the DMA code. I've tried it and it works fine (except for a few graphical glitches which I'm too lazy to fix).

That's because you didn't apply my IPS patch to the ROM.

Oh, ot looks like SMWPTE won't work for this, since you can only use specific tiles... you can't go to the end of the .bin and use the new tiles you add.

Uh... You can't (or are at least not supposed to) change the size of the graphics files. You have to find a way to make the both Mario's and Luigi's graphics fit in the space you've got.

Oh really? I beg to differ.
http://www.freewebs.com/cpubasic13/smw_sprite.doc for those that need to copy/paste.

Look in the stickys first before jumping to such rational conclusions.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about a secondary sprite table. There's no such thing in the doc you linked to.

Also, to my knowledge, there's no such table (except for a secondary ASM pointer table)

If you've already imported the MAP16 data, it's safe to remove those files.

Just in case you didn't know. SMCs have got 0x200 byte headers. (200 hex = 512 dec)

Check your ROM in SMW Clean Rom Verifier, which can be downloaded here.

Download SMW ROMs from different sites until you get one that the program says is clean.

If you can't find it, try to add 512 bytes to the beginning of the ROM with a Hex Editor.

Here it finally is:
The patch which gives Mario and Luigi separate graphics.

Before you keep on reading: This IPS is supposed to be applied to a clean ROM. Also, this version is NOT compatible with my patch which gives Mario and Luigi separate tilemaps.

Please note that there might be bugs I haven't noticed yet. If you come across any, report it, or I'll lock every thread you'll ever make in this forum!

Features:

Gives Mario and Luigi different graphics. (Mario and Luigi graphics are stored uncompressed at the end of the ROM)
As an extra bonus, the Mario graphics found in GFX32.bin will be used on the title screen (but nowhere else).

Thanks to:

jp for the DMArio code I stol- err... borrowed.
Bio for the disassembely of DMArio.
Some others for not shutting up about finishing it.

The Patches section is up. You can submit patches to it as well. The tool submission system is also done.

People who add you to their contact/buddy list and then asks who the heck you are? I hate when that happens.

A few months ago, there was this girl who added me to her contact list and asked who I was. These questions, together with the n00b expressions she used made me belive that it was a bot. I asked some simple questions like "what's 1+1", "what's 5*3", etc. She was far from sure about the answer to 5*3, so I assumed that she was just a very stupid n00b. She kept on asking me who I was and such. I pointed out that she added me to her contact list, so she SHOULD know who I was. However, she didn't understand such logic. Anyway, after a few weeks, it turned out that she belived I was her boyfriend, and that he appearently gave me my MSN address and said that it was his.

As far as I could tell, she didn't understand any of the tons of insults I gave her before I finally blocked her.

Right handed. I use the right hand for pretty much everything.
When it comes to writing, I have next to no precision in my left hand.

By the way, I've trained to be able to use the mouse with my left hand. It's precision isn't as good as the right hand's, but it's good enough.
