Can't see your background because it's blocked by the work filter; but I'm curious to know why there's such a big space in your quote...

I never thought that tightening hurt that much. Sure, it could be a little sore for a while, but some people make it sound unbearable -- it was never so bad I had to stop eating

I'd go home and eat a steak.

That doesn't work. He'll hold for however long is necessary. He's actually quite a bit pushy when it comes to support.

The other thing I've noticed is that my 'hobbies' with regards to computer stuff have shifted. I'm now only interested in fields of computing which I don't have to support at all at work. Which is probably in part why my facination with the internet / web design / development has never disappeared, but I can't stand the majority of Microsoft Windows, and have little to no interest in hardware anymore....

Yeah, that sounds possible. It might also mean that there's a minor problem with the power supply (as opposed to simple inefficiency by default).

When lightning struck my work building, a few power supplies got "quirky". Now a few of them will randomly decide not to turn on; only to work again later. My work machine is sometimes one of them... (Unfortunately this does not appear to be enough to lodge a Warranty call though)

Oh, I got no problem with sitting at a computer outside of work.

I just prefer it to be not running Microsoft Windows. Or if it does; not to be running any applications that we use at work (so openCanvas is good, and Azureus, VLC and AverTV are also good...)

Posted on 09-03-06 11:48 PM, in Self Improvement Link
Ever since I got off my antidepressants nearly two years ago (and even though I'm back on different ones again now) I've been working a bit on self improvement. I want to be a better person.

When I was more seriously Depressed, I didn't care. Didn't care what I looked like, didn't care what anybody thought of me anymore, etc.

But since the Depression's improved, I have cared about such things, and have been trying to be a "better person". Mostly I've been trying to lose weight, be more organised, etc.

Things I've been trying specifically have of course been weight loss, exercise and diet (I've lost 24kg - 52.8lbs in the past 17 months, and I seem to have bought an acid reflux problem under control for the most part). I've been trying to be more organised with money and such; so that all bills get paid on time, and I've been saving for certain goals (I've managed to buy a bed; some furniture, a new computer, etc in this time, through saving).

I've been trying to be a bit better with control of emotion as well, although this is hard with the Depression still a problem that has come back to bite me; apparently because I repress anger. I'm not sure how to deal with this one, as I don't want my anger to bother other people; partly why I think I repress it in the first place.

I'm also thinking that at some point I need to look at some assertiveness training; because I think sometimes I can be passive-aggressive; which isn't good.

And I'm trying to learn PHP, which is a bit funny. I understand what I've learned; but seem to have difficulty tying together what I've learned to suit a useful purpose. However, as I seem to just now be coming out of a long-term period where I've had some fairly marked concentration and learning difficulties, this could be related to that... I also learn and understand stuff, only to forget it all five minutes later....

Are any of you trying to improve yourselves? What are you doing to do so?

What I found funny was The Chaser's article, entitled "Wikipedia's run by a pack of pricks"

It details Chaser journalist Shane Cubis' story of having been added to The Chaser's article, and the creation of a seperate article, only to be repeatedly deleted.

The comments are funny...

The whole Chaser website is funny...

Hmm... I wouldn't say a version of SA -- the Chaser originated as a satirical newspaper; now only the Online version of said newspaper exists. The Chaser Team have gone on to create several successful television and radio shows though now, currently The Chaser's War on Everything runs on Friday nights.

There is a Pokemon forum, which I believe you need to be approved to post in. You could start by requesting approval.

I would suggest that next time you ask your question, that you first read How to ask questions the smart way and then ask.

People may be more inclined to help you when it is obvious that you have made an effort to help yourself before simply asking.

I am not sure, but you may be able to ask in the ROM Hacking forum, provided that you do ask politely, and are sure to ask your question as per the above-linked article. (I am pretty sure that if you ask your question in there the same way you have done in here, it will not go down well....)

Funny, I don't think Shane was acting out of arrogance.... it's fairly obvious he's being silly. As the Chaser writers pretty much universally are.

No article on the Chaser is ever in any way serious...

I'd also recommend posting a little better than "k thanks", and your original post

You are requesting that other people take time out of their day in order to help you. Why should they help somebody when that person seems to be making as little effort as possible to even type their request properly?

Yes, the comments are funny, cause some people HAVE taken it way too seriously.

It's funny that a whole bunch of internet idiots went on the warpath cause of the silly article. Course, Shane just stirs them up some more...

Honestly... how the fuck do you get a stingray barb in the chest ??

Most people accidentally step on a ray and get it in the leg. What was Steve doing??

There's a thread about this in General Chat as well.

I still don't know how you get a bloody stingray barb in the chest

It sounds like he was underwater when it happened.

Maybe he was trying to hug the ray, cause "crikey" it's just "goooorgeous"

Killer ray 'was probably startled' -- an article based on an interview with a marine life expert.

Randy -- most people are injured in the leg or foot after accidentally stepping on them, and they usually don't seriously injure anybody. If you ever are stung by a stingray, pour hot water over the wound (don't pull out the barb) -- as hot as you can stand -- to break down the venom.

This is -- well -- a freak accident to have been stung in the chest...

I made some basic functional things. Some calculators and converters. Nothing tricky so far, but I wanted a slacker way to calculate my average speed when I go for a walk -- the idea came to me, curiously enough -- when I was on my walk!

I need more mini-projects like that. That made me think for a second..... it also made me realise that the only thing I remember about learning Physics is that I sat in the back of the classroom and was a general nuisance to the teacher. I remember that I was taught how to calculate speed/velocity.... I remember that I learned it. And now it seems I had completely forgotten!

EDIT: Oooh I'm clever. I combined stuff I learned. Now my converter from kg to pounds goes back from pounds to kg too. Hehehe...
