Paperweights are also good for PlayStation 2 repair. Sit them on top of the CD thing while you test stuff.
iPod is not heavy enough a paperweight for this though. I used a large shifting spanner instead. And my iPod's been going for over 2 years... |

Hello!
|
I'm re-learning PHP. I used to use it a little years ago, but it seems that I've forgotten (and given that period of my life, I sometimes wonder if I've deliberately repressed...) pretty much everything I knew... I'm re-learning it, but I'm just wondering, what would be some good real beginner projects to try when I'm a little more familiar with it? Are there any "exercises" or something you can think of that will help me learn? At the moment my learning is a little un-structured and goal-less (I have an eventual goal in mind but I think I should learn some basics first). I'm sure if I were enrolled in a course of study, I'd be taught something and then have to perform a little exercise based on it, but that doesn't so much happen when you try to teach yourself. Any clues?

I have too many to mention all of them, so I'll mention a recent one that I really enjoyed.

It's a webcomic, and the art is gorgeous. Lackadaisy. The attention that the artist has paid to the details of the Roaring Twenties, with costumes, lingo, etc is amazing. Despite the fact that the artist is quite talented at more realistic artwork, they have chosen to present Lackadaisy featuring anthromorphised cats as the characters. As explained by the artist, they've done this because it allows them more exp
I really envy the rich characterisation that all this exp

Well, the primary reason I am learning PHP is that I wish to redo chibitaryn.net, which I've been lazy with for far too long now.
|
I've been using Movable Type (perl based) at the moment, but want to move to something that's a little bit of a combination between a "blog" style and a "gallery" style... I also want to make it look pretty.
So far I've learned a few bits and pieces, but nothing in the ballpark of being able to do what I'd like to... ![]()

Well, here's some feedback and information on the medication I'm currently taking.
|
Edronax - 4mg (Reboxetine (as mesilate) tablets) Reboxetine is a NARI. Unlike SSRI type drugs (which work on seratonin) it works on noradrenaline. It's used for the treatment of clinical depression, panic disorder and ADD/ADHD. I currently take 4mg a day -- 2 in the morning, 2 at night (I split the tablets) The early side effects I experienced are that I was waking up earlier (a little bit too much earlier) and being bright and awake and alert... before I wanted to be. I was also having trouble sleeping. This seems to have settled down somewhat, and I'm sleeping well. The side effect I'm having more of is a bit of a dry mouth. However I'm not particularly bothered by this either as it's encouraging me to drink more water (which I haven't been as good with as I should be). I've experienced dizziness/vertigo also; but this is likely due to a Viral Infection that I seem to have gotten shortly after starting the medication. As I still have said Viral Infection (ears and nose and head still all stuffy and such) I'm still experiencing this a little, but it's getting better so I think this is an effect of the Virus, not the medication. Positive effects have been more motivation -- I've been motivated enough to start to re-learn PHP for example (although I get a little easily frustrated by it... it's a bit maths-y in spots for me). I've also been motivated enough to sort out a few other bits and pieces. And exercise slightly more.
I've also been better with concentrating, although if I'm tired it still goes to pieces a little on me.
And because I've been more motivated, I've achieved a few little things, which helps me feel a whole lot better
That's it so far. It hasn't been all that long since I started so maybe I'll see things improve further.

Well, guys, I'm not asking for help with the site |
I was wondering about some smaller "mini" projects that I could try to do to challenge myself / learn. The site's a bigger project. I'm thinking that one "mini" project I might set myself is to work out how to have layout, css and content all seperate, but easily managable... after all, this is what you're apparently supposed to strive for nowadays with web design.

Blah. Posts gone!

But yes, I have mySQL and PHP. I have unlimted mySQL which is good
The things I've made so far are here and are a reflection of how little I know thus far. I would like to add things to the calendar (ie events) and Xkeeper has suggested I look into arrays, which I've read up on but not played with yet (reading made sense, will play with arrays and put them up in my folder full 'o crap too).
While the reading makes sense, I don't know how to actually apply it to the calendar as yet. I'd be interested in seeing the post that is now gone that was after this one that I'm now re-doing cause I think it gave me a clue... ![]() (restricted) |

Unfortunately being in Australia, nah, I dunno of anywhere.

But yeah, that sucks. The only thing to do is to start looking for something else I guess. I don't know what resources are available to job hunters in the US, but generally here check the Newspaper, and there are several online places. Find out if there are any opportunities in the Public Sector as well -- although you may need to be part of the Public Sector already to get a job there (in which case investigate how you can do this). If you want extra cash in the meantime, and you have general computer skills, it may be worth advertising your assistance on a local notice board for people after computer help. Wouldn't pursue it as a career or anything, but it might give you a little extra cash and something to do besides job hunting. I dunno... good luck with it EDIT: wtf is with that filter? ![]() (edited by Tarale on 08-28-06 10:30 PM) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
