Originally posted by Kasdarack I tend to drink mostly water and sometimes fruit juice if I want something sweeter. It's very VERY seldom I'll have a soda of any type but when I do it's probably Lemon flavored. I've had Lemon flavored soda sitting in my fridge untouched for 4 months now |

Jeans (again) and a brown tee. Boring, work stuff.
I need to go clothes shopping. I just don't think I have the money to. |

I haven't had pizza in a very, very long time.
The last time I had it, I had meatlovers' at "Australia's Pizza House". Generally if I have a pizza, I like to buy it from a little pizzeria a fair bit south of where I live, who make a fantastic pizza. They deliver but it costs a lot so the best way to order is to phone, find out how long it will be, then drive down and collect it yourself when it's ready. If I have a pizza from there, I tend to get their Chicken Hawaiian. |

While we're on the topic of pizza, what IS it with every other pizza joint offering pizza now with about sixty different layers of cheese in the crust?
Is it honestly any wonder that obesity is a problem in western societies? |

At work, I sometimes go for coffee. As of a few weeks ago, I thought it would be nice to let my "buddy" at work know when I was going, in case he wanted me to get one for him too.
When I returned, another colleague said "I wish you'd told me you were getting coffee". And so the next time I bought a coffee for both colleagues. Then the boss went "Where's mine?" From this humble beginning, a daily "coffee run" has formed. Today I purchased 9 coffees. It was commented on the way back from the coffee place, when I had my "lackey" (another colleague) helping me carry the excessive coffee back to the office, that I'm effectively a drug dealer. I (re)sell an addictive substance I profit from this (stamps on my loyalty card = MANY free coffees) I am making colleagues more addicted to coffee than they previously were, leading to further profit. So yeah, I'm a drug dealer. Fun I have cards in my purse for three free coffees. Bwahahaha. |

I have no idea how this double posted -- It didn't post at all initially.. weird Sorry... please trash the other thread.
And yeah... 9 coffees. The most I can carry myself is 6 in a tray -- so I needed somebody else to help me today. It's trickier still if somebody wants a muffin with their coffee, and I periodically get to look like some kind of sugar thief when I shove handfuls of sugar packets in my jacket pockets before leaving. The money situation with it is also getting so confusing I now have an Excel Spreadsheet set up with the following fields: Name -- Type of Coffee Ordered -- Cost -- Money Given -- Change Otherwise I get too messed up with all the random small change thrown at me (usually while I'm busy doing other work too) and I forget to give people change! And the maximum anybody pays for coffee is $4.75 -- and that's me, with a Large, Mocha Latte with 3 shots of espresso |

I only require coffee on days when I'm working, or perhaps when I am hungover.
I don't require even the slightest caffeine boost on weekends, public holidays or such. The benefits I find of coffee is that I just seem to cope better with stresses, be a little more cheerful and mentally alert. I don't get a real buzz from it like I used to unless I drink more than my 1 (3 espresso shot) coffee... in which case I would feel ill, not good. But yeah, in general I just cope with being a Help Desk Drone a lot better when I'm caffeinated. There's less client-hate too. I think I worked out the reason behind the doublepost too -- seems we're having intermittent internet and network issues here at work today. JOY!! |

Best advice I can think of -- don't take anybody too seriously, and remember that chances are other people are having their own troubles too. Expect some weirdness.
|
If you feel you're being treated like crap, confront people about it. But don't take that crap seriously -- chances are it's likely over something stupid and petty and not worth worrying about.

White bread is nice. There's nothing quite like the taste of fresh, white bread.
|
However, I hear that the white bread made in Australia is VASTLY different to that in the US. The most common complaint I hear from returning Australians about US bread is that it's incredibly sugary. I eat a very grainy bread more often than not though. Better for you.

Pfft. I've lost 20kg (44lbs) and I didn't have to give up coffee.
|
Don't think that just cause you're trying to lose weight means you have to give up on your favourite things. It just means you have to be more careful about enjoying those things -- don't have them all the time, for example.

The idea that the milk in coffee is bad -- because milk is full of fat -- is a bit of a popular myth, and may not be as bad for you as you think. Even full cream milk is only something like 3% fat, which is not much at all. It seems to be one of those popular myths, like that eggs are bad for you (they're not) and such. On the other hand, the sugar content of soda is usually fairly ridiculous. You're best to really minimize both coffee and soda really. Coffee cause of the caffeine, and soda cause of the sugar. Where possible, stick with water and fruit juices. If you don't like the taste of plain water, it's sometimes nice if you squeeze a little lemon juice in with it.

But yeah, the common misconception about eggs is that they're full of cholesterol, which is bad for you. The thing is, they're right and wrong at the same time -- eggs are full of cholesterol, but it's not bad for you -- there are good and bad cholesterols, and eggs are full of the GOOD one that helps unclog your arteries. Eggs are good WITH coffee (ie, bacon and eggs, and a coffee to drink) but not IN it, I'm sure. Speaking of gross things in coffee, I squirm every time I hear that line in The Simpsons about Homer having butter in his coffee.

OS-tans are female "mascot" characters to various Operating Systems. There are also OS-tans for systems like Mozilla lololol (despite this clearly being a browser, not an OS).
|
The characters originally appeared on... one of those Japanese imageboard places, afaik. The "-tan" honorific is not really a real Japanese honorific -- it's more how a little kid might say "-chan". I guess it's to up the whole "cute" factor another notch. My favorite little piece of OS-tan artwork features XP-tan with a big bowl of Memory, which she's eaten, and she wants some more.

In the summer, I take showers in the middle of the night. My eczema gets worse when I get all hot and sweaty, so I have a cold shower in the middle of the night to cool down, and then the eczema settles too and I can go to sleep. |

The Princess Bride is my favourite. I watched it on the weekend with a friend... well, some of it... before heading to bed. I like the swordfight at the start with Inigo and The Man in Black
|
I'm also dazzled by Vizzini's amazing logic in the Battle of Wits. Man in black: [turning his back, and adding the poison to one of the goblets] Alright, where is the poison? The battle of wits has begun. It ends when you decide and we both drink - and find out who is right, and who is dead.
