Yes, I know you won a contest, but you've shown no real interest in this person per se, nor does it seem that you're getting out of classes you particularly loathe.

I am wondering what benefit this is of to you? You keep saying you won a contest, but do you really care about the prize? I know if I won the contest I wouldn't care too much about it at all. It's like the time that I won a raffle when I was a teenaged girl and got a blokey book about sheds/garages.

How about in the meantime you go ahead and post some nice, thoughtful, intelligent posts on the forums, enriching all our lives and enhancing the fun posting experience?

The best way to resolve this kind of problem is to turn over a new leaf in your behaviour. The rest of the problem will all solve itself with time and patience. Now, we have LOTS of time, do you have the patience?

Frankly, at the hours they call, I don't think I'm on the ball enough to try to be Terry Hicks anyways. They tend to call early in the morning on news days and wake me up.

Considering getting an unlisted number.

At least the telemarketers seem to have backed off somewhat after all they ever get out of me is "fuck off, not interested"

I was watching a show here called Rove Live last week, and throughout the show, Rove was trying out a bunch of (weird) things that people said they ate with their porridge.

Most people generally put something like honey on their porridge, or salt if you prefer it to be a savoury dish. However, throughout the course of the evening, Rove ate porridge with tomato sauce on it... and with Vegemite on it...

Personally I have honey on mine, it's really good. I'd never dream of having Vegemite on it, that's for sure.

What do you have with your porridge?

Tarale - I'd say go for it. (Growing out your hair, that is.) Long hair can be pulled back or put up, which helps with the unruliness you describe. Also, is your hair unruly because it has wave or curl? If so, it will probably behave better long because it will lay down to some extent instead of just poofing. I can't speak from personal experience - my hair has been below shoulder length for as long as I can remember, and I never even knew it was wavy until recently because I'd been using too harsh products - but a bunch of wavy/curly people on the long hair boards I go to prefer their hair long for that reason.


My hair sucks at the moment, it's short still, it's been long for the first 24 years of my life then I cut it last year. I liked it for a bit, but now I think I want it long again and it will take me at least the rest of this year to even think about putting it in a ponytail.

I'm thinking about purchasing hair extensions I'm so annoyed with it.

About the telemarketing thing: Do Not Call

Call the number they give you to add your phone number to the "Do Not Call" registry. Last I checked, it was "1-888-382-1222" or something like that.

...But I doubt it'll do Taryn any good, since she's Australian.

Apparently the Australian Do-Not-Call Act is awaiting further legislation in Parliament.


Haven't some telemarketers called people on the Do Not Call list? I thought I heard something of that nature anyways.

At any rate, I think mine have gotten the hint when about 20 seconds (if that) into the call I tell them to go fuck themselves.

For you guys who keep mentioning Oatmeal:

In North America, oatmeal means any crushed oats, rolled oats, or cut oats used in recipes such as oatmeal cookies. The porridge made from this is also called oatmeal or oatmeal cereal.


"Porridge" is just made by boiling oats, rice, semolina, wheat, or barley (etc) in milk or water. Gruel is a really thin version of porridge. The most common porridge is made with oats.

Wasn't describing you specifically, but your actions lately WERE the catalyst for the post.

I am talking in general terms about things. I will elaborate why I dislike whining. Whining comes across like somebody expects other people to solve all their problems for them.

Now, I have no problem with somebody discussing a situation, or asking advice. Both of those are actually constructive and likely to be beneficial to helping a person to help themselves. People can offer suggestions and ideas that might ultimately assist a person with solving a problem, and talking out a problem calmly sometimes helps you to solve a problem too.

I have no problem with helping people out either, but they need to want to help themselves or it's not going to work. Whining implies though an expectation that somebody else is supposed to resolve the issue.

Particularly when the issue is something that only the person involved can solve, whining is pretty counterproductive. It doesn't help the person, and it doesn't inspire anybody to help out.

Rather than whine, I would much prefer that people talk things out calmly and rationally, and come up with solutions to their problems. There is always a way to either fix something or cope with it, nothing is either unsolvable or unbearable. But it's not fair to expect that other people solve everything for a person just because they are unwilling to help themselves.
