Precisely, it's the slippery slope. What's to say that they will only use this for good and not for anything evil / dodgy / otherwise just not right?

Also, I'm not doing anything illegal either; but that also doesn't mean that I'm happy to lose my privacy.

I've not heard of any pot-related accidents either; but I still think it's generally prudent not to drive if you are under the influence / impaired.

Taken a bunch of antihistamines that make you very drowsy? Don't drive.
Taken a bunch of painkillers that mess with your head? Don't drive.
Stayed up for several days straight with either no or almost no sleep? Don't drive.
Smoked a bong / eaten some "cookies"? Don't drive.
Drunk half a carton of Cooper's Pale Ale? Don't drive.
Smoked an imperial shitload of Ice? Don't fkn drive!

I don't particularly care that the weed would make you more "paranoid" or whatever -- I know from my experiences that it likely WOULD result in me becoming a more paranoid driver. However, where I think I'd become impaired is that I might forget to check my mirrors enough -- or become overparanoid and check them too much; either way impairing my ability to know what is around me well.

Course, people DO do these things, and that's why it's illegal. You can get in trouble with the police (around here) for driving impaired even if you haven't touched a drop of alcohol or inhaled the tiniest bit of THC.

Speaking as somebody who has lost a parent, and has regrets because of it -- make sure to support your mother.

I was a kid when I lost my Dad, I didn't understand what was wrong, why he was sick, and I drew away from him. I don't even remember it being a conscious thought or anything, I guess it's just what kids do, but I feel horrible for it now.

Make sure to give your mother all your love and support. And try to be strong for her.

lol, this is funny. See, I know how to lose weight, I've lost 18kg myself (that's 39.6lbs). However, I haven't the foggiest how to do it in two days.

Go work out. Don't eat any junk food. If you are lucky, you might make a little, tiny bit of difference.

Well, now I have half a second to settle down, I'm going to write a more serious response to this.

I still think this thread is ridiculous. Weight loss is a lifestyle change, one that you make and stick with, indefinitely. It's not something you do in short bursts to be ready for a particular event or whatnot.

Now, if a particular event is a catalyst for you making the lifestyle change, that's all well and good, but stick with it.

You also need to remember that you really really aren't going to achieve much in this amount of time, so don't worry too much about the deadline -- or if you ARE going go need a deadline for motivation, make it one further away.

But yes, in the meantime, lots of situps, pushups, jogging, blah blah blah... eat healthy.... I'm sure you really know what you should do, it's all fairly commonsense.

I don't see where the mountains of concern come from here.

So you would have no problem with somebody you don't know reading every last one of your e-mails (without your permission or knowledge at the time), and then following email addresses in your inbox to every last one of your friends and family as well?

Frankly, I'd feel pretty violated. I haven't done anything wrong, but they would then have access to some fairly angry and emotional ranting I made to a friend overseas concerning the actions of my ex; and a few other things that are private.

And if they are allowed to just go in and read all my emails, what next?

Main critique is that she has a man's physique, plus boobs.

I'll explain in more detail:

A man's physique has broad shoulders, which taper down to narrow hips, with no real "waist" defined as such. The hips are always narrower than the shoulders; even if you were drawing a very girly, bishounen boy.

A woman's physique has slender shoulders, which taper down to a narrow waist, and then go back out into hips that are wider than the shoulders. The hips are always wider than the shoulders, even if you're drawing a very "butch" girl.

I recommend you give her a waist and some hips

Yes, but don't you have anything more to say about them? This isn't the best basis for a topic, you know.

I like what I've heard of Ladytron so far; which admittedly isn't very much. Not my favorite stuff; but still very good.

Posted on 04-06-06 10:02 PM, in Who is geting tired of all the crappy movies? Link
I don't watch all that many movies, so I'm not often disappointed.

There are only two (older now) movies I'm interested in seeing, and those are Memoirs of a Geisha, as I enjoyed the book, and Wolf Creek although I'm not a fan of horror films and a bit funny about the idea of seeing the second.

I think that the first will disappoint me a little; but then the book is *always* better than a film.

Wolf Creek..... the more I hear about it the more I think I won't be "disappointed" by it.

I don't buy that for a minute either.

If I'm unhappy about the idea of somebody reading something I wrote (or recieved) it is because it was a confidential matter discussed between myself and the sender/recipient.

It doesn't mean that it didn't need to be written, it doesn't mean that I should feel ashamed, and it doesn't mean that I should be fine with somebody poking around in my "dirty laundry".

Sorry, but that statement tends to paint the picture that if people are embarassed or ashamed that they wrote something that is wrong and I disagree with that. People have a right to talk about things in confidence, and this destroys that confidence without either party's permission!

If you have a problem with things, there are better ways to voice that opinion. This is a fairly unimaginative cheap shot.

Yes, I think this should probably be in Hardware / Software.

But yes, I've heard of this. I think it's great that Apple finally released something with regards to this. They had recognised early on that one of the selling points of their product is that it would be possible to dual-boot it; however it did take them a while to release a product to do the job.

I also find it interesting that it was released so soon after the community found their own way to do it.

I think this is a nice, nifty little product, especially for business users who want to use a Mac; but are tied into the Windows world in their work environment.

When did they have a policy of not allowing Windows onto their machines?

Apple spokespersons said on the day that the first Intel Mac was released that they were perfectly happy for Windows to be run on the Intel Mac; it's just that at that time there was no way to do it yet.

What Apple have had is a policy of not allowing OS X onto other Intel machines (ie, Dells, home-made PC's, etc), but they've not had a policy at all of not allowing Windows onto the Intel Macs.

Yes, well that was the point I was trying to make, but I wanted to know where neotransotaku got his information saying that they DID have a policy against it. As a follower of Apple news, I've never heard anything saying that Apple have been against it (only ever the exact opposite) and it seems to me like fairly typical PC-user FUD.

It's not the first time I've seen that FUD either.

Oh, and you CAN run Windows on an iMac. Just has to be an INTEL iMac.

The fact that you can't run Windows on a G5 or G4 isn't a policy, it's the fact that it's an entirely different architecture

I'm going to agree with the comment regarding intolerance. I think that intolerance is pretty much the key word here with a lot of the arguments regarding homosexuality.

A lot of people are intolerant of homosexuality, and a good deal many more seem to use religion as a way of explaining why they are. It often seems to me like an excuse more than anything more concrete.

My understanding of Christianity isn't one of specific rules, I took Jesus' teachings to be about love and forgiveness. I didn't take any of Jesus' teachings to say that homosexuality was a bad thing, I certainly didn't take any of his teachings to say that it was "wrong" or that those people should be hated, etc. From my understandings, Jesus would have been much more forgiving than a lot of Christians can be.

Now, this isn't all Christians, mind, but it is certainly some, and there are examples of it in this thread. It seems to me that in a number of cases, religion is merely being used as an excuse for intolerance.

I wish more people who call themselves Christians would be more forgiving and tolerant.

Personally, if I were in charge at the moment, I'd be closing this thread again temporarily just because of this NEW off-topic argument.

If you have problems with the way Ziff runs things, it is NOT appropriate to disrupt those threads (at all other thread-participants expense) to voice that opinion.

I have no problems with him having closed the thread temporarily. It was only temporarily, it was for good reason, it was re-opened, no harm was done to any user, nobody was banned, warned, etc.

If you are unhappy with decisions made, it is NOT fair to disrupt a thread because of it -- take those opinions elsewhere, to Ziff directly, or open a thread where you discuss civilly your complaints.

If you are unable to be civil about your complaints and you are unable to make complaints without ruining threads for everybody else, I suggest you do take Ziff's advice and leave.
