But I don't think it's particularly obvious that I'm very drunk when I am posting on forums or talking on AIM. Which actually probably isn't a good thing, because it makes it harder to go "but I was drunk!" when you're told off later for being rude or offensive. o.o (restricted) |

What really ANNOYS you about computers?

My current biggest annoyance is a lack of documentation, particularly on websites. Websites for open-source projects that lack lists of features, so you have to play the mystery-meat game and download it to see  Plugins that require other plugins, but forget to mention so on their site and make you delve through support forums to find the answer....
My second favorite annoyance is THIS BUG IN WINDOWS which pisses me off to no end, as I spend quite some time every day explaining it to clients, and explaining why we can't magically "fix" it as Microsoft themselves have only provided a workaround (the same one we provide on a many-times-a-day basis). Some clients also think that cause we're in the Help Desk we have some magic batphone to Microsoft to get this stuff fixed.... grrr....  (I once told a client that I'll talk to Bill Gates next time I meet up with him at a function and they genuinely thought I would....)

See, I don't mind doing what I do, but I could never do any kind of telemarketing, or phone surveys.

I HATE it when those people call me, and so I'd always feel bad about doing it to others. Besides, I don't think I'd enjoy being told to go fuck myself with every second phone call that I make I did doorknocking for charity once and got that lovely reaction in person a few times... people slamming doors, yelling abuse and profanities at you, threatening you to get off their property.
Conversely though there were some days where I didn't get that... I'd just get lonely old people who wanted to talk to me forever and ever and ever and ever..... and ever.... Nope, I'll stick to tech support. I still get abused, but I don't feel like I'm being intrusive, harassing or anything like that. I just try to help where I can.... which is most the time... (unless they ask a REAL tricky question)

My palate used to be much more fussy, but now I'm a bit bolder in trying new things so it's not as bad. I'm still a bit of a wuss, but I tend to try more stuff now. I tend to have real problems with being a sweet tooth -- if I want to snack, it's usually on something sugary or sweet... biscuits, cakes, chocolate, ice cream, sweets, etc. My tastes with meals tend to lean towards the cheesy, creamy or meaty scale of things, which is likewise unhealthy. My stomach capacity is pretty small. I don't tend to eat a whole lot. Some of this is intentional, some of it is simply that my stomach can't handle me eating a huge amount of food. I couldn't eat a full pizza by myself, and I wouldn't try. I'd actually stop eating well before I got full. The only food I tend to really overindulge in and eat till I am very full is chinese food. And I've been trying not to do that too, it's just so damned tasty. (edited by Tarale on 03-21-06 09:26 PM)

I always thought the Rurouni Kenshin world is kinda cute. It's a very soft, fuzzy romanticised vision of Meiji era Japan. There's fighting and stuff like that -- and every second character has a dark past they try to live on with - but what anime world is without a little drama? *shrugs*

OOOH... Adobe Reader's another of my annoyances.

Now, when it's just standardly loading a PDF it's fine. It's when Adobe Reader decides it needs an update that really REALLY annoys me, because not only will it freeze up the entire browser, but the whole OS. And you have no indication of WHY because it hides the fucking update screen BEHIND EVERY OTHER OPEN WINDOW. After some struggling and Alt-Tabbing, you find it and your problem goes away, but I find it horrific that one application -- and a minor one at that -- can bring down a whole system.... and it's not even old boxes, it'll bring down anything from my 3Ghz machine at work to an old Pentium....

I've gone a few days before. After a while I don't want to eat. I think I went just over two days and then begrudgingly ate something. After a while of me fasting the idea of food becomes.... well... really... not something I'm interested in. :-/ Takes me a while to regain my appetite.

Most of the things that really REALLY annoy me are the things I find difficult to explain to clients when supporting. The stuff that really has no logical explanation when they go "why is it happening" or "what caused this problem?" My pet USB bug definitely falls into this category, and it's almost always followed up with the question "why is there no fix?" The USB thing compounds my pet problem making it even harder to try to explain to a client who is already infuriated by the whole affair. One thing that also annoys me and is work related is MICROSOFT ACCESS DATABASES. There are hundreds of thousands of them here, and everybody assumes that cause I'm in Help Desk, I know Access (and every stupid Access app out there) like the back of my hand. YOU WROTE IT!! YOU WORK IT OUT YOURSELF!

Pot is decriminalised here. Personally, I think that's a good thing.

Now, whether marijuana is "good" or "bad" in my eyes ultimately comes down to the individual. If the individual smokes it (recreationally) several times a day, needs it in order to "think straight", needs it to get to sleep at night, etc, then that's bad. If the individual smokes it every now and then as a special thing, that's not so bad. I wouldn't consider it any worse than somebody who drinks every now and then. For all we know it may have mild benefits like some alcoholic drinks do too... *shrugs* If the individual smokes it for pain relief or relief of symptoms of conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis and suffers pain or poor quality of life without it, then smoking pot is a good thing for that person. Pot's very different for different people. Some people abuse it, some people are responsible with it, some people find it helpful. I guess in a lot of ways it's like people have different personal relationships with alcohol.... *shrugs* Legally, I'm happy with the decriminalisation that occurs here. However, I'm not sure if there are any exceptions for those using it for medicinal/pain relief purposes or not (I'd assume one would have to prove their claim for using it that way). I would hope that there would be... For the record, I smoke pot. I don't do it often, but I use it as a pain reliever on occasion. Since my surgery I've been suffering some fairly nasty pains at the site of my surgery that the doctors can do nothing about. Prescription painkillers are fraught with danger; potentially addictive, etc.... so I'll self-medicate for the pain if and when needed.  (edited by Tarale on 03-23-06 05:35 PM)
