| Yeah, I probably do work too hard, but that wasn't quite what I was asking... I was asking if you thought it possible to be trained into bad thought habits and patterns through situations such as my work....
I guess like stop-start traffic is bad for a car, stop-start work is bad for my brain? I'm just theorising, I guess. I know I work too hard when I'm at work -- I consistently answer more phone calls and resolve more problems than all of my colleagues, and if I'm rostered on Mail that week, I do more Mail too. I don't know if you've ever worked on a call centre before though and I'll try to explain better what it's like... A typical day at my work... I am sitting at my desk trying to read an email about an important change to an Oracle system that is used for payroll. I get to read the first paragraph, and the phone rings. Now, what I was trying to ask is -- do you think that kind of environment would be a bad thing for one's mental state and do you think it could train one into bad thought patterns and behaviours?
I don't get a chance -- nor is it even an option -- to take a deep breath and relax.... or to focus on a single thing... or hell, even prioritise. A call comes in, it is the priority, drop anything and everything right then and there (I'm sure anybody who has IM'd me at work knows this....) .... so yeah, back to my question -- do you think my work may have trained me to have concentration issues? |

| Nah, not saying that they're doing intentionally either.
Let's put it this way -- you can be trained -- be it through internal or external forces -- to overcome Depression. Things like Cognitive Therapy is an obvious example. You can be trained mentally for a lot of things. I'm pretty damned sure the Armed Forces train their soldiers mentally for things. It's just something I'm curious about. I'm not the only person in my workplace with the attention span of an 11-year-old. We're all a bit like that (some of us quite comically so at times). I just wanted to know if anybody thought it could be because of the environment we're all in, and if it's a learned behaviour. Either that or people with short attention spans are better suited to Help Desk type jobs... This also said, I've heard speculation also that a lot of people in this current age (with computers and IM and constant information) are suffering ADD-alike symptoms simply because we're all constantly being inundated with information... PS. Not looking for advice here -- I'm questioning something and looking for other thoughts on it The reason it's posted here is cause I don't think it fits in that other serious forum... ![]() (edited by Tarale on 03-10-06 10:57 PM) |

I'm not even going to speculate when it comes to Apple. Honestly, they're not the easiest company to predict. |

Alastor-- I went through a short period where chocolate ice cream was breakfast.
Funny the things you do when you realise your parents aren't going to stop you buying 2 litres of ice cream and eating it whenever you want.
Now I tend to eat more properly. I cook most nights, but my "lazy" cooking is Tuna Mornay. It's not too much effort to make a white sauce, put tuna and sweet corn in it, and bake it with cheese on top. The toast that accompanies it is also pretty easy.
Tonight I made Spaghetti Bolognese and came to the realisation that I am fucking awesome at making Bolognese. I look forward to those leftovers when I'm not too full to eat them ![]() |

Originally posted by Cornellius Least descriptive post ever, but moving along. Yes, I've seen Last Order. It's not a bad anime, even though it defintitely flies in the face of the Canon of the game. Quite a bit. The animation style is pretty good and it was fairly interesting to see the characters and some more of the story. Aside from the non-canon parts of course, which are slightly confusing... |

| I don't think I have ADD, at least I was never diagnosed with it. I've had some concentration issues all through schooling, but I dunno, it feels like it's worse lately.
Oh, and I'm lazy as hell, btw Well, at least... usually. But recently I've had trouble allowing myself to be -- I feel like I always have to be doing something or something bad will happen. o.o |

| I know this series has been out for a while now, but I haven't previously had a chance to watch it. It's been airing with English dubbing on SBS here, but the dubbing annoyed me, so now I'm watchng a downloaded version with soft-subs.
I'm very much enjoying this series. I know it doesn't fit in (at all) with the canon of the movies; but I think it's supposed to be alternate-reality anyways. It's very enjoyable to see Section 9 acting as a 'police force' of sorts, and investigating things. The story with the Laughing Man is very interesting as well. I haven't seen it all yet (up to ep. 13) but I'm very much enjoying it. Anybody else like this series? I hear there's a second one too... Oh, and I love the Tachikomas. For a mecha, they are very cute! ![]() |

| Well, with copying it depends what you're trying to learn/improve/achieve. Personally, I have no problem with it -- but I think it would be good if you could cite your references in those cases.
And you certainly have a definite eye for detail in coloring. |

| Uh... I didn't insult you? Did I? I certainly didn't mean to. The only thing I was trying to do was point out that you ARE an artist (when it was initially assumed that you were not) and clarify my position on copying. o.o | |||

See, I find the Tachikoma to be pretty interesting. I guess I just find their childlike curiosity and such to be kinda cute. I like the little Tachikoma Days mini-episode at the end too.
I haven't yet seen Ghost in the Shell: Innocence however, that's a sequel to the movie anyways, and so I don't think it's relevant to the timeline of Standalone Complex is it? AFAIK, Standalone Complex is an alternate-universe, seperate from the events in the first and second movies (there is no Puppet Master, for example). One thing I find interesting is that this series certainly has more humor to it -- which is apparently closer to the original manga anyways. The original manga isn't as serious as the movies would have you think... |
