This WAS a test thread.

I was testing if I could post.

I can, because I'm awesome. And I have the thing too, but mostly it's awesome.

I don't know the answer, but I've seen this before on machines that have overheated.

The answer tended to be a reboot for those machines. It would do it even after a complete reinstall of the OS, so it's something hardware usually...

See, I was told the sky is blue for a different reason.

You ever played with a prism and seen how it splits white light up into the colors of the spectrum?

The atmosphere acts a little like a prism. Different things in the atmosphere cause the light to fall in the blue part of the spectrum.

Now, I was told the OCEAN is blue because it's reflecting the sky

Well, I was always told the prism-ish explanation. I think a more technical term is "Rayleigh scattering"

I'm going to look it up. This is driving me crazy.

Of course I'm right! I'm awesome (Despite my horrifically bad explanation of it all, but meh)

As for why we view color this way, well.... there's probably a reason why we see things in the RGB range and not any other way. This is probably the way that is the most useful to us as a species. *shrugs*

Yeah, I used to get a lot of this, which is why I seldom discuss anime with anybody who isn't already a fan.

All anime here is automatically "Pokemon", "Digimon" or whatever. A few more enlightened people have seen some badly dubbed versions of Initial D, InuYasha or Fullmetal Alchemist on the Australian version of Cartoon Network, and a handful of others watch the also badly dubbed Ghost In The Shell: Standalone Complex on SBS. A lot of those people are that have seen a little anime are actually somehow MORE irritating

But those are all so rare so that I keep my mouth shut about anime in general.

Some older people equate all anime to being Sailor Moon or Astro Boy depending on their age.

One thing that I think really needs to be looked at when you look at cameras is optical zoom. Frankly, as far as megapixels go, my camera (3 megapixels) is fine for me, but the optical zoom is something I always want more of or better.... and I'm not sure, but it will be your optical zoom that I think a lot of your clarity and detail will come from.

Just my opinion, but I find "megapixels" to be somewhat overrated or at least overhyped in comparison to good old fashioned optical zoom.

Posted on 02-20-06 09:02 PM, in Lack of common sense (re: post layouts) Link
I agree that there are a lot of poor layouts, or layouts that have been poorly executed. I'm sure I've made my fair share of them too.

I don't mind too much except for the cases where things are broken, unreadable, or blindingly ugly/bright. Scroll layouts irk me, but thankfully most people don't say enough to make me have to scroll so I'm not too annoyed with that.

I think a lot of people need to put more thought into their layouts. It seems to me that a few are slapped together with little or no thought, and it certainly shows.

Disabling all layouts is great if you're on dialup or if your high speed internet is currently being packet-shaped down to really slow cause of your excessive bittorrenting

I'm currently under my quota this month so I gets to load the pictures

Does anything else boot from CD on that computer?

My money's on a CD drive failure, but then I've had that problem so many times myself and it drives me nuts. Particularly if the CD drive works in Windows but won't let anything else actually BOOT off it.

My computer periodically hates me. I'd previously chalked the problem up to overheating (after careful monitoring, this is not the case).

The behaviour is consistent with CPU overheat. Basically you're working one minute, and the next the entire thing has frozen. The mouse won't move, nothing moves, nothing does anything. You get to see the screen, but for all intensive purposes the machine has just stopped. Like somebody pressed a "pause" button on it.

I know the problem is not airflow or overheat, the CPU temperature is a very mild 43 degrees Celcius (109.4) and reaches a very safe maximum of 48 degrees.

I know the problem is not RAM. I have extensively tested the RAM and there were no errors.

The problem is not the HDD / RAID array. It's recently been mirrored and would not have allowed that to happen if there were a serious fault.

Motherboard was also tested as part of RAM test and no errors. Capacitors on motherboard are not bubbled or otherwise misshapen, no burn marks or anything unusual.

CPU will be tested extensively overnight.

My videocard is in the process of being tested, but it is one of the things that I will consider suspect until proven otherwise.

My network is onboard; but this is another thing I suspect.... see, it crashes frequently when transferring large amounts of data. When I can get my hands on a network card I will install it and test to see if I can throw a few gig around the network without it throwing a hissy fit (like it almost always does now)

My TV tuner card is fine. Problems occur with or without it.

Any clues anybody?

Yeah, it's pretty clean. It's also perhaps worth noting that I have a larger than usual heatsink on my CPU. I also have a larger than usual fan on my video card.

Both video card and CPU were tested overnight. No errors on either.

Dammit, could it be the onboard network that is doing this? I can almost guarantee a crash if I try to throw a few gig about the network...

In short, I've checked every other fkn component of the computer and I think I'm down to the problem being onboard network? Everything else is fine, also have a decent power supply too.... :-/

Ca'arn.... somebody knows this, right?

Machine was reinstalled on the weekend (due to the Hard Drives having been switched from a stripe RAID config. to a mirrored one). Problem has survived several reinstalls and Ghosts and as such I believe problem to be hardware, not software.

Problems existed prior to reinstall, as well as after. Current chipset drivers and network drivers all installed; latest from MSI website. (Network is onboard)

Good. Simple, neat, readable.

Would preferably not have the text that size; (I always tend to prefer fonts around the 10pt mark for maximum readability) but it's up to you.

Yep, that looks good And it works better with the emoticons too that size I find

Nothing more to critique. It's simple, it's elegant and it's readable. All the things I like in a layout. Well done.
