Indeed. I've certainly seen that happen when it's come to things like committees and such, which is another reason I prefer polite -- or at least respectful -- conversation.

When it comes to that kind of thing in a work (or work like) situation, it's completely detrimental to getting things done. Not to mention people leave the work group because of the related hurt feelings and the lack of that sense of accomplishment as nothing gets done.

Well, in regards to the overweight and old lady thing...

With the old woman being however many years "young", you DO realise that when most people say that, they're not referring to that person's physical age, right? If you're calling an old person "107 years young" you're making a commentry on that they're still active, or bright and bubbly, or social, or whatever (despite their age). It's a compliment.

For example, I have two Nannas, of similar ages. One of them I would describe as being "70 years young". The other, I would not. The first is bright and bubbly... she's active, plays golf, has a new husband, goes to parties and social events and is living a great, full life. The other... not so much.

With the overweight thing, well, it would make me uncomfortable to just go "you're fat" or whatever, but I don't like the term "big boned" either. I'd probably uncomfortably (but as politely as possible) use the word "overweight".

they should have thought of that before they got cancer

I'm not sure if this is supposed to be funny, but I find it in very bad taste.

Did you read the thread title?

So I find your honesty in bad taste. I also think you're a very insensitive person, based on that comment. And people don't get to choose whether they get cancer or not, making your comment about "they should have thought of that before they got cancer" incredibly ignorant and stupid. And still not funny.

How's that for honesty?

I didn't enjoy X, but I agree that Evangelion has some very dark and serious themes.

Yeah, but I'm tired. I just moved house

Evangelion is a fairly multilevelled anime. On the surface, it is an action anime set in a post-disaster, apocalyptic world. Giant robots called "Evangelions" are the last savior of mankind against the "Angels", whose arrival could cause the a disaster called "Third Impact" -- the end of the world. Deeper, it has a very darkly emotional storyline, centered around the main characters.

I'm too tired to write anything better right now

Watson, I do believe we have reading to do.

Oh, I got that it was sarcasm and I said it was in bad taste. And not funny. Sarcasm IS supposed to be a form of humor after all

Or if you're up for a little pain, wax it. It takes longer to grow back. If you wax it frequently, the hair grows back finer too. I know ladies who waxed their eyebrows often, and now they seldom need to.

But moving on. You seem to have a bit of a "victim" mentality. That's not good all the time. Sometimes it's okay to feel a bit sorry for yourself, or like the world's ganging up on you; but don't allow yourself to get trapped in it.

You do have control over more of your life than you likely realise. Once you get over the victim mentality and get a positive attitude you can make positive changes to your life.

I voted 2, with leanings towards being a 3. I definitely like members of the same sex. Unfortunately I have extreme difficulty getting along with other girls so I'm more or less terrified of them too.

Girls freak me out, and that's why I think I put 2 over 3. Girls personalities' terrify me. Girls can be unbelievably bitchy, cold and fake (and often ARE those things) and that's just... not something I can cope with in either a friend or anything more than that. Most girls are a turn-off for me based on personality (although that doesn't stop me looking at them).

Guys are generally more open, but the few girls that I find are more "blokey" in that way, friendly and open and honest I find myself also very drawn to and attracted to.

Otherwise, girls freak me out.

I'm going to admit to something a little flaky here -- I get slightly annoyed when a band I am very fond of becomes ridiculously overhyped / popular overnight.

I can't quite pinpoint what it is, but I think part of it is how fandom of that band changes when this happens. It becomes.... diluted.

See, there are more fans (and more critics) but they don't seem to know as much about the artists, have followed things as closely, base things entirely off of TV appearances and high-rotation airplay singles. But once a band becomes very popular, it becomes harder to find another fan who enjoys that artists' music in-depth, who has bothered to go beyond the singles and who finds that that music really actually means something to them. Who gets the bands in-jokes, etc.

So when you say you like a certain band, you either get criticism that they're "crap" out of hand (based on one or two songs) or you get fans who have only heard one or two songs and don't really care about the music the same way you do, and only like it on a moderately superficial basis.

It's petty and it's stupid, but it does kinda dilute that sense of being in a community of fans.

Oh and on Green Day -- I just don't like American Idiot. I guess I just don't think it's their best album / it doesn't appeal to me. But then, it does seem to be written more to appeal to younger people and I doubt I am in Green Day's target audience right now.

lol, that thumbnail theatre IS hilarious I'm still a fan, but I agree that both the endings and the movies are fucked up. The movie is fucked up to the point that I prefer the original ending!

But the series is good, riiiight up until there....
