I haven't seen this Fusion Dance, but frankly it doesn't sound cool just cause it's a dance

Is it like a polka? Or a waltz?

Let us know how quick Rosetta is.

I'm going to wait and get a MacBook Pro. Mostly because I have to. Financial issues (which I have discussed on my blog) mean that even if I did buy it now, I might not be able to keep it.

Is there a community notfdgdgasdgasg around somewhere? Like at a local mall or something like that?

If so, put up an advertisement offering your computer services to people or something. You're pretty good with computers, and most of the stuff people need is cleaning of spyware and stuff like that. Charge by the hour. Offer your services to other students that aren't as computer savvy perhaps.

That should help you get some money in

As for food and those costs, try to eat fresh food where possible... fresh fruit, veg, bread etc is all pretty inexpensive and you can do a lot with it. Better for you, too.

Draw up a budget, and stick to it too.

Indeed. The issue is that there is no BIOS.

The only current version of Windows that supports EFI is the 64 bit one. Which isn't compatible with the Intel Core Duo in the Mac.

So yes, at the moment you can't natively dual boot. Vista will support EFI.

I wonder if you could dual boot the system with normal XP if you installed GRUB into the MBR.

Does GRUB work with EFI?

I'd definitely be looking at doing computer builds/upgrades/repairs then if it's something you're happy to do and you think there are people around who will use your service.

However, from my experience with computer business, the money is not in selling hardware as the margins are pitiful - the money is in your labor expenses. So generally jobs where you go and clean spyware for an hour or so and configure Outlook for a user are much more profitable than those jobs where you sell them a stick of ram and they install it themselves.

Hmm... I wanted to see that CSS file but the filter here thinks it's "Adult Content".

I can see the actual layout fine though

Meh, I read the word "total" so just totalled mine. After all, it's all hard drive space that I have access to anyways -- does it matter if it's not in the same machine?

Don't forget about the bunnies in yours and Tarale's user picture are different colors.

It's not to late to say this but welcome to the board. You prove to be a helpful member after seeing some threads you posted in.

Yes, well Taryns are usually very helpful people

With that exception of that one Tarryn I met in school who was a very horny person

not the most uncommon female name
I had never heard the name before I came here. I still don't believe it's a real name.

I've met a few, with different spellings. "Taran" is often a boy's name. "Taryn" usually a girl's name (but I did meet one little boy with his name spelt that way) and "Tarryn" is another way it's spelt (again usually a girl). I don't think I've ever seen it spelt "Taren" but I'm sure it's likely to be spelt that way too.

And for the record, I think the origin of the name is Greek and it means Queen. Although I've also heard it's origin is Irish ... and a teacher in school said it meant "Palm" once.

I come from an education in schools background and I currently still work in the education sector.

The thing that I have found most IT coordinators don't focus on enough is keeping the state of the workstations up to scratch.

Too many focus on "innovating" (read: toys) and not enough on the perpetual cycle of upgrade and repair.

Audit your workstations. Remove any that are old clunkers and replace them. Try to upgrade a whole classroom and rotate your machines. Audit printers and data projectors too and submit them to the same treatment if you can.

Your students and teachers don't want to work with broken equipment, slow equipment or unreliable equipment.
